Your son goes along with a private school's feild trip to the State Capital Building and they teach him all about how 'stuff works' there or as the teacher said "history stuff" they rode a train there and back - anyway your ds comes home and talks for the 45 minute ride about the building, the history of the building the differnt governors pictures who is in charge of what, what is better the assembly or the senate, He then goes on to tell you that he was allowed to sit in one of the Senators chairs at thier little desk during session and he snooped in the garbage to see what they had been doing before,,, lol it was pretty interesting stuff but he thought he would get in trouble During his extremely detailed conversation about the trip he pointed out that some of the kids really did not have a clue about how to address an Assemblywoman with questions. he said he head palmed over the class presidents questions several times. He also mentioned that the people in assembly talk too much when the Speaker of the House was talking and it made it really hard to hear what it was about. AH I love that my boy is home schooled he was so jazzed by the trip that probably bored most of the kids there but he said he may even go into politics ... who knows maybe he will be a senator or assemblyman someday?
Like I remember in 5th grade we went to the state capitol building on a field trip. It was really awesome, but I wish we would have had more time.. we went to several museums while we were in the city for the day so our time at the capitol was short.
<3!!!! I know every time we take a group somewhere for a field trip the tour guides are usually so jazzed b/c the kids are REALLY, GENUINELY interested and engaged, and they're so not used to it! They usually say "Wow, I'm so not used to kids being this interested!". LOVE THAT!!!! Yeah....we got it goin' on!
This is great! Nowadays people call kids like these "nerds", and I hate that! In any case, I'd rather have my 'nerdy" kids any day over uninterested bored disillusioned kids. My niece in PS went with her class to a historic museum, and then they saw an imax documentary about the subject (I forgot what it was). When I asked her how she liked the documentary, she replied: "Oh, it was so boring, I just took my Nook along to keep me busy." Apparantly, so did most of her class. And the teacher ALLOWED all those smart devices!
