I'm late to the conversation, but I wanted to chime in... I just learned, about a month ago, that NIMROD was actually a person! I just thought it was a dirty name you could call a dumb-Butt... Stop laughing... My DH Laughed for an hour.... But not as much as he did the day that he discovered that I thought Roadrunners were imaginary... Now THERE's a funny family story! Hahahaha!
 Well Jen, at least you're learning this stuff! Who says you had to know it when you were younger?
Jen you must be reading the same text I am, as I was just reading about Nimrod and laughing about how so many of us knwo that name..its amazing how many Bible parts are part of our American heritage that we don't realise its the Word of God!
Jen, that brought back a memory of my dd - when she was about 15, she asked me what kind of tree pretzels grow on. We laugh about that even today - she is 31. By the way she was not hs, she went to a ps. I wonder if she learned that there???
Because of always seeing children's literature with illustrations of Little Girls with Kittens and Little Boys with Puppies.... I always assumed that dogs and cats were simply male and female versions of the same animal..... Like the fact that cows and bulls are the same animal.... I figured it out when I was about 8, in private thank goodness!
Oooh! One more.... (Yea, I was weird. Mostly because I had no brothers or sisters, was moving so much that I had no friends; I went to 15 elementary schools.. no kidding...) ANYwaaay..... My mother divorced my father when I was about two years old. He was a looser and disappeared. I never knew him. SO.... Until I was about 9 years old, I thought that kids who did not have daddys got their last name from the hospital they were born at. Why? Because my last name was the same as my birth Hospital... Geeesh! I was REALLY silly!
THat one was cute! what a great way to handle that! My dn ( dear nephew?) has a dad who wont have anything to do with him aside from the check the courts have made him do. Which is way too small for a kid. ANyway he just tells kids he doesnt know where his dad lives. His mom wont tell him because it makes no difference and he lives close enough to visit the kid... What did your mom tell you Jen? If you don't mind my asking?
I tell my dd that I don't know where her dad is too. I kind of know what state he's in but he's such a looser. He doesn't even pay child support.
I just remember my mom answering that she did not know where he was. I don't remember wondering "Why" he wasn't with us. But I do remember the small child fantasy that one day we could be together and he would be so happy to be with me. That never happened. This was a case of being better off without him, actually was true... I was... I found him in Colorado in 2004. His records indicated DUI's, Domestic Abuse convictions and pleading guilty for indecency with a child convictions. He was, at that time, scheduled for yet another court date for child molestation charges. There ws never any accusations, or even a hint that he was like that when I was litle, nor any indication that he ever hurt me. This was a complete surprize. I was never told ugly things about my father. Which I am sooo grateful for. However, in light of what I learned from a distance through records searches.. he will never know he has grandchildren....
Okay - I have 2 things. Speaking of learning something new..I never knew that all the answers to the 9 multiplication tables add up to 9.WOW! And my dad told me when I was little that if I planted a bird seed I could grow a bird. I watered it for 3 weeks. He also told me that a man would come in my window and sprinkle sand in my eyes to make me go to sleep. I, of course, did not sleep! I love the muppets(my kids tease me all the time because I have every movie and some stuffed animals- I love the shrimp guy) and could not figure out who Kermit reminded me of...then it dawned on me..my dad! They have so much in common!LOL!!! Also- something else - we have a homeschool prom in Dallas. Do any of you know of one in your area? People come from all over for this one and I have never heard anything bad about it.
I don't know of a prom but our homeschool group has a father daughter formal in the spring. This will be our first one so I don't know what it is like. I would love for her to get to go to prom when she is older.
Ohio Grandma, My neighbor's Dad worked for a doughnut factory when my neighbor was a kid and his Dad brought home tons of doughnuts. They got sick of eating them after a while and hung them all in the trees in their yard thinking the birds would like them. I wonder how many kids around there thought doughnuts grew on trees?
Sabrina, I love math tricks and I have been trying to make my girls understand about the 9s trick. They don't get it yet but maybe soon. I also love this one. 3x9=27 39 books in the old testament 27 books in the new testament 39+27=66 66 books in the Bible Just a fun trick we used once in Sunday School.
