You go on a camp out trip to go to a Parade in a small town and while waiting for the parade to start you stop in at a book store... and buy curriculum! 1 $ for Creative writing that will ast DD a whole semester if I follow thier guidelines! its a Frank Shafer product too! okay so add to this thread what funny thing have you done that makes you "Know your a homescholer when...."
You know you're a homeschooler when: You go out yardsaleing and only come home with books, books and more books...(and at more than one of those yardsales you let out a yelp of total glee and wondered why they didn't use this great book)
Great idea, I love this kind of thread! You really know you're a homeschooler when... ...when you have 200 textbooks and 3 kids. ...when "Phys Ed" involves climbing trees, jumping on couches, and chasing the youngest sibling arround the backyard. ...when you give out chores and spankings instead of tardies and detentions. ...when you learn as much from your kids as they do from you.
thank you collegekid for telling me that the kids are doing a good thing by ripping all the cushions off the sofa and jumping on it..lol... but can I still yell at them for it
when you look up at the time and it is 2PM and you just finished chores, math, reading and spelling all while still in your PJs...oh yea forgot about that. when you hear the sound of your washer and dryer while explaining fractions. when you go to the grocery store and call it math and home econmics class. when you struggle to find the educational value of the day you spent doing everything but school.
You know you're a homeschooler when... Everything wrong with your family is attributed to their homeschooling, while at the same time they are lauded for being so "Smart" and how we, the parents, are so patient.... sigh.... You giggle while filling out the questions at the pedi office about "Does your child have a good relationship with his/her teacher?" "Do you feel your child receievs adequate attention at school". "Is there someone to superise your child before and after school". "Do you know if your child is eating mostly junk food during lunch time?" (We just went to a new dr and giggled all through these questions.... DH and I, that is) When you move your livingroom furniture into the dinning room and turn the livingroom into a classroom (Bookshelves, tables, etc...) When you are surprized that the church you are visiting does not even have a homeschool group.....
You know your a home schooler when your kids can be who ever they want to be. When they can grow and learn at whatever pace you and they wish. When you don't have to catch a bus at 6:45 a.m. When, in the middle of the day, you child says,"I love you Mom, Thanks this was so much fun." When they don't care about ipods, cell phones, or wearing the "right" clothes.
Oh Jennifererix...you are funny! I knew you would have some good ones for us! I especially love the dining room one because... YOu know you are a homeschooler when: you are considering getting rid of your kitchen table and chairs to make a classroom out of your breakfast nook. (that is exactly what I am doing now!!!)
..when you get a "buzz" when looking at a new promising curriculum and seeing the possibilites. ..and the only teacher's breakfast you have to worry about planning is your own.
Ava rose: Yea, well we were the ones who turned our master bedroom into a secondary living room/classroom/playroom/sewing room! hahaha! Who says it has to be the room defined by the floor plan, eh? hahaha!
.....When you want help with dinner & call it 'domestic science.' .....an elderly woman needs help to carry her groceries & you decide it's time dd did some 'community service'. .....people are lining up to employ your kids because they have a good attitude & work ethic but no high school diploma.
JenErix made me think of this one as it is similar... When you take you dd to the Dr. and when she is asked "How do you like your teacher" your dd gives you a sneaky grin, sort of like "hmm, do I dare answer this honestly!?".
....when your "ADHD" son is not drugged, but just sent out to run around the house a couple of times! ....when your children are not labeled as "bad" because they have a lot of energy and have a hard time sitting still, so study while walking around the room, and otherwise moving around! ....when your children respect you as their parent AND teacher, and are surprised, and put off, by kids talking back to their parents! ....when you have 2 teenagers, and they still like you/are not embarassed of you!
...your child takes more fieldtrips then most children in public school. ...your child is able to communicate with people of all ages. ...your child is able to pray during school hours. Patty
....Your child is willing to ask questions, because it is encouraged instead of discouraged! They know "there is no dumb question"! ....Your children ASK to PLEASE have a longer quiet reading time, because they want to finish the chapter/book they are reading
Your child says- can we please take a trip where we don't HAVE to learn anything! (or it that the opposite of what a hs kid should say? )
