I have some artistic talent deep within that has not been used for many years. I recently purchased a whole bag of art supplies when in Fla at a Michaels store, most of which were on clearance. (yeah!!) I was planning on getting books from the library then looking up how to websites etc. anyway, I was wanting some example picts and googled a couple of things. Youtube videos came up in the results. Light Bulb Moment. Who needs art lessons when you have youtube.com There are many basic lessons and videos using various media. I love youtube. I recently moved a baby grand piano thanks to youtube videos by others. I was able to instruct my helpers and get the job of taking it apart, putting it on roller/dolly, strapping in in place etc in very little time and no one got hurt.
Our computer is sooooo slow that we rarely watch them. Actually the internet is slow not my computer!LOL!
I honestly thought that U Tube was only for high school and college kids who wanted to post videos of themselves doing the most ridiculous things they could think up...guess I'll have to check it out now huh?
We use youtube for French. User JustinDMcElroy has a bunch of Telefrancais "episodes" uploaded. This is a program produced by TVOntario and is used in p.s. classrooms all over Ontario, Canada. My son loves them and they apparently have a large fan following on Facebook...go figure LOL.
My son found a learn to draw Naruto video on you tube and has since taught himself to draw! I agree, you tube is a resource worth mentioning. You can find almost anything on there.
I love youtube and it lets you keep favorites too and post them places. I learned how to crochet with youtube. They teach you how to sew too. Sam
I go searching on youtube all the time, for videos, clips or slideshows or music or whatever, stuff that's related to things dd11 is learning about...all sorts of treasures to be found if you're willing to wade through the junk. (and just for fun, looking for stuff myself) (Watch the comments though  - there can be some rather crude remarks in those sometimes, that you may not want your kids reading if they scroll down to them)
You tube is great! There is alot of junk, too, but I don't look at that. I just search what I am interested in...and I always find alot!
I've found science videos, math, history, School house rock...even hours of Thomas the Tank Engine. It's a fantastic resource.
We use you tube all the time! Soooo much great stuff out there. I do recommend you previewing it and possibly downloading it due to content that could be on the same page. My kids aren't really reading yet, but people on there are just obscene at times, so be careful! National geographic has a channel on there and we love watching their animal specials when we are studying a specific animal. Like Beavers... I was concerned when I was searching for that one. My search words were, "Beaver tail slap." The kids had read about beavers slapping their tails and wanted to know how loud it was. I was afraid what would pop up with those search terms, but we were thrilled with the end result! Great vid by National Geographic!
