    Curriculum Search

Thanks for all the responses. You folks are always so helpful. Goodnsimple - if you are looking for an Ancient China Web Hunt - I found one earlier this year but did not like the way it was laid out so I redid it myself in a word document with the links built in. You can have it and modify...

    Anyone homeschooling in Georgia?

I homeschool in GA but this is my first year so I'm probably not your best resource. 1) The 4 1/2 hours thing probably depends more on individual families and the structure of your schooling. When we are having good, productive days we easily do five +, but if the mood is wrong or...

    Curriculum Search

I'm sure these questions get asked over and over again but I'd tried searching the sight for previous questions and found myself caught in a loop of "not exactly what I'm looking for" posts. So, at the risk of bugging all the veterans with the same old questions: It's almost mid year and...

    I'm a Real Member Now

I think I'm an official member now with an avatar and everything so I'm just posting to test it out.

    Table or Desk

The Big Comfy Couch. We do have the dining room table set up as a home school spot - as we never actually eat there. But it's just where we pile our supplies. Most days the actual learning takes place on the couch.

    Math help

I'm not part of a group at this time although I do have a couple of friends who have been homeschooling for a while. We only have one car right now and my husband uses it to go to work during the day, and I use it to go to work at night. I could keep it during the day, but that would mean...

What does your day look like?

Becky: Sometimes we spend as much as two hours on math but then we cut out other things or push them off to the next day. The way we get everything done in four hours is that I'm following my own time line and focusing on Math and Language Arts more strictly than Science and Social Studies...

    Math help

Thanks for all the responses. I've been winging it on the web and I appreciate the two websites goodnsimple. I did not have either of those. She used to be in Saxon at school - I think she liked it. Then last year they changed the curriculum and it was so different that it really broke her...

    Math help

I have a daughter in 6th grade. She has huge gaps in math - i.e. we were reviewing place value in preparation for decimal work and I discovered she doesn't really understand it all that well. What do you do when re-teaching something a child should already know? I want to keep it on her...

Can't do this at public school

Those were great pics. My little one has begun to collect acorns (she calls them popcorn) and she keeps trying to eat them. I'm not sure we could get her to give them up for squirrels or chipmonks.

    Does this bug anyone else?

On the point about doing too much might make you cranky - I think that is definately the case with me and why I like some time away once in a while. Just a couple of hours is enough for me. When my dd was in ps - we never had time for anything. Now with hs - I can work with her during the...

    Monotonous homeschooling

We've had a couple of "life skills" days this year. One was truly dedicated to a home ec type class where she planned and made a meal - complete with homemade bread. The other was a day when the house was a shambles and we were not going to have time after school to clean up, so we made it a...

    Deer in headlights

Oh yes! My dd12 still needs tons of support, examples and hands on help - even for what seems to me to be the simplest assignment.

    Does this bug anyone else?

I personally would love some time away from my children. And I sometimes say that out loud where it is possible to mis-interpret what I mean. I need personal space - me time. I think some people may need that more than others. I feel like my nerves are frayed when my kids are around all of...

    creation science question...

There's a book called "Speaker for the Dead" by Orson Scott Card, in the SciFi genre. It talks about "philotic connections" that are probably based on that same idea. It's a pretty interesting concept.
