Wondering if you all would be praying for a work related situation... bottom line is that we really need more staff and fast. When I was taken off nights, they thought they had the nights covered. Within a week of me being off nights, the one replacing me wasn't showing up for scheduled shifts and hasn't been completing the assigned work. They pulled another full time girl from days to do the night shift... she agreed to it. She worked one night shift and hasn't been back for any of her scheduled shifts - hasn't called in or shown up. At 11:00 pm the evening staff wants go home - who can blame them. Last Thursday, they left our baker to work by herself (which is illegal - for one person to be in the building with the doors still open but she couldn't even lock the doors) to do all the counter work (and there's a lot) and her bake (again a lot of work to do). Friday night... same thing, the girl didn't show up but one of the evening students volunteered to stay and do a double (so he wouldn't have to work Saturday). Last night (after I had taken a muscle relaxer for my back) a co-worker called me at 11:30 begging me to go to work... same thing different day. I couldn't go because I was a zombie (I got off the phone and cried like a baby because I felt so bad for him - he too was doing a double because he didn't go in the night before and because of the staff shifting had to do a double because they needed the supervisor). He had no one to call. He called the store owner (who later flipped out) and they eventually found someone to go in. I do not want to go back to working nights BUT I did go to the assistant manager and told her that as much as I don't want to do anymore nights, I will do them until they find someone else who is reliable. Praise the Lord, she just hired someone who wants to work nights but we still need more staff for the day shift (we're down at least three people for days - probably more if I stopped to count it right). We really need to hire reliable people who want to work - and back ups for all shifts. I really do like my job (although there are some days...) but when we work with bare basics (right now we have no coverage if and when there is a sick call) the stress is unreal, emotions run high (dare I say on extreme) and it becomes a miserable environment to work in. While this seems like a petty or even stupid request, we really need more people to work with.
Brenda, You need to get away from these stressful jobs! Can you take up knitting sweaters for babies or something? I just wish you could have a good job one of these days! I will be praying!
That's cute, Deena! Sometimes if we didn't laugh, we'd cry! Brenda, I, too, pray that you'll find a job that's less stressful.
I think your prayer request is neither petty or stupid. It is what you need at the moment in your life to make things work at a smoother pace and I will be praying for some good hard working people to come in looking for jobs right away. Beth
I am giving my two weeks notice in writing tomorrow morning when I go to work... the stress in the store is absolutely unreal (too many family connections, brown nosing, and belittling comments that I just don't need). The new manager continually schedules me on Sundays and when I left nights, they knew I could not and would not work on Sunday's. They've booked me AGAIN on a Sunday and to do a bake shift ... I'm not paid as a baker and so I won't do it either. Any job that takes me away from God and causes as much grief as this one is not worth it to me.
MarylynTX, that's my prayer for Brenda, too. And Brenda, I'm glad you had faith to take the next step.
Bringing this up again to ask for continued prayer about this matter. I'm sure there will come a time when we will be close to full staff (or full staff) again but in the meantime we aren't there yet and actually have had three more people quit with absolutely no notice in the past week causing more strain on those of us who are there. We do have some applications and some interviews scheduled but some of the applicants are a little fussy and want a M-F 7-3 job - golly those of us who have been there for any period of time can't even get that - much less two days off together. Twice this week we have worked desperately short (4 people on the floor when there should be at least 7) and it has made for some challenges. I've worked a tonne of overtime this week (67 hours) and am tired (exhausted) but we're managing making the most of what we do have. Some days there is tension but we're doing what we can to turn it around (instead of laughing two of laugh till we cry). Thank you all
What a hoot! Our assistant manager had an interview today. I had no idea who it was they were interviewing until he was ready to leave and when I saw him, I thought "oh Lord, please not him!" When I worked nights, he was working at the grocery store next door and came over all the time. We gave him the nickname "stinky" (because his body odour was absolutely horrendous). We tried to serve him really old burned coffee hoping he would stop coming over, but he still came in (a pot of coffee is only good for 20 minutes after which we have to toss it out and make fresh - sometimes we served him coffee that was as many as 5 to 6 hours old). Anyway, Nancy (the manager) just got the wrong feeling about him and they won't be hiring him. One day at a time...
