Well...my oldest may or may not be homeschooling next year (the Administrator of our Church School asked if we'd be interested in attending on a scholarship) but for my 4 yo we'll be using Five in a Row, with Math U See, and some phonics workbooks to continue working on his reading skills. If my 6 yo stays home he'll also be doing Five in a Row, Math U See, and phonics workbooks.

I am too tired to even think about what I am using now, to even consider what we will use next year. I think we will just take a couple of extra years to get through the current grade then skip some grades to catch up. On a more serious note, we buy as we go in a just in time fashion. We will school through summer then buy at the last minute in the fall. I think that the BJU stuff is working well for English, Math, and History so we will stay with those.
For dd 1st grade BJU Math, science and history. LLATL for Lang.arts Steck Vaughn spelling Handwriting without Tears For DD Kindergarten Horizons Math LLATL for lang.arts The World God Made,CLP for science plus Im still trying to find a good phonics program.
Ds 5 (K) ETC - he finished book 2 this year, so we'll be starting book 3, plus Beyond the Code book 1 (we have ETC 4-6 & Beyond the Code 2, so we'll just work through as many as we can get through) Starfall.com Mastering Mathematics Science - we're covering Animals & Habitats, Food Chain, Seasons, Life Cycles, Water Cycle - I'll be creating units for these, and we'll watch educational dvds on the topics & do fun stuff like create posters & collages Social Studies - we'll be covering The Ice Age, Community, Holidays - again I'll create units & find fun projects & stuff. Depending on how long those topics take us, we might start on Ancient Civilizations. Dd 11 (6th) Math - TT, she screwed around too much last year & I'm making her redo Pre-Algebra, but she wants to do both Pre-Algebra & Algebra so we'll see how that goes Latin - we're changing from Latin's Not So Tough to Oxford Latin Course Geography - we're continuing from where we left off in World Geography & You Home Ec/Life Skills - this year we're covering Cleaning & Organizing and Decorating & Basic Home Maintenance. I'm not sure what we'll use for Decorating, but I'll be making the materials for the rest Art - We'll continue studying artists & their work and doing art projects based on the style of the artist we're studying Music - we'll continue studying musicians & she'll continue with learning guitar Writing - Writing Strands 4 Spelling/Vocab - we'll continue a word a day, she writes the word & definition, part od speech, etc. in her homemade dictionary (organized by Latin & Greek roots), then has to use the word as much as she can (in writing assignments & everyday conversation) Power Basics Basic English - for grammar For reading, I have a few books I want her to read, but won't force it. She gets to read pretty much whatever she wants History - for 6th & 7th grades we're studying Wars. 6th grade will be the Trojan War, the Crusades, the Irish War of Independence, the Hundreds Years War, & the Spanish Civil War They'll be doing PE together, which will consist of 30min of some kind of exercise each day - outside when weather permits, inside when weather is bad. I think that pretty much covers it. I completely forgot to add Science for dd. We got the book & teacher guide for Power Basics Earth & Space Science. She's not big on worksheets & I prefer more hands-on work for Science, so we didn't get the workbook or the tests. We'll add in some projects & she plans to make a book for each unit in the book. The books she creates will count as cummulative reviews & unit assessments. I may create a final test for the end of the year, but I'm not completely decided on that yet.
We are going to use the Lifepac this year. I wished I used them earlier. I like the testing and how its done in sections so if they do not so well on a section you can review that section again instead of buying the whole set or going over the whole set again.

Who knows how the year will play out, but this is the plan for now.
There are lists of ideas in my brain but when I try to put it on paper, it just doesn't seem to come together.
I tend to start a spreadsheet early in the current year for next year to jot down ideas for each kid/subject. Some subjects may have 2,3,4...items by then until I narrow it down. If I don't, I'll forget some good idea I had along the way and be annoyed later when I've bought something else  I'm such a geek that I color code it so that I know what I already own, what needs to be purchased, etc. Then I have a column underneath with the general price range of the items we need to buy (new prices) so that when I find it used...I can feel even better about it.
Oh my! That's TOO organized for me! My brain just fried thinking about it! Now I'm going to have to go rest! I do lots of reading here and on WTM and often find neat things to try that I never would've known about otherwise! Okay, now I'm going to go rest my brain!
Color Coding works for me in many different ways. Good thread. Thank you! And continue with our study on manners. I purchased a couple books and we are enjoying studying them together. We will be doing 4 day school weeks, with Mondays consisting of working together to clean the entire house, and they will do their Sonlight Reading on Monday afternoons. I used to do this vigorous cleaning everyother week with all the children. Tee home would be orderly and clean shortly after our lunch break, and then I would have company the following week. You know you always clean for company so the house would get clean again. It worked well at always having the house company ready. I am really ready for that to be happening again. Looking forward to another school year. Shhhhh...don't tell the kids we may start the astronomy study in the summer, they may like it, and dd#1 does want to dig into the books for her History and Geography so she'll start earlier than September. Like I said, shhhhhhh. Learning is great!
Smiling Dawn, Do you have the Art with Thomas Kinkade? My dd saw it and thought it looked too young for her, and she'll be in 7th next year. It's written for grades 3-5, which I didn't realize until we had it in hand........ Anway, just curious.
I do something similar. I have a binder for each child, with sections for each subject. The sections contain all the info for the current year. This is also where I write down my ideas for the future. I write down materials I want to use, topics I want to cover (in addition to what's already planned), project & experiment ideas, scheduling ideas, etc. I also keep track of the prices of materials & where I plan to buy them, so I can plan the budget & find all the stuff again. I actually have already planned what the kids will study in the core subjects all the way through 10th grade. I've also got ideas for curriculum/materials for many of their subjects/courses through 10th grade. A few months before the current year ends, I start finalizing the list for the next year. I always order for the next year before the current is up, so the materials will get here in plenty of time. We only take a month off between grades. I use that month to finalize my plans & schedule for the upcoming year, once I've had the chance to look through the materials & figure out how much I want to add to the year (projects, field trips, experiments, etc.). I also keep an inventory, on the computer, of all of our school materials. The inventory is organized by subject & also includes extra info on each item (consumable/nonconsumable; type of material - textbook, workbook, kit, dvd, etc.; and grade level). I keep a copy of the inventory in each of kids' school binders. That way, I can check to make sure we don't have something (or something comparable) before I write it down on the ideas lists.
Yes, Deena, it is the LifePac Art with Thomas Kinkade that my girls will be doing. The Alpha Omega catalog states that this class is created for 3rd-8th graders, with beginner and intermediate activities. We own the dvd already and they have viewed it and agreed to do the class together. Looking forward to it. Dd#1 will any benefit never taking any formal class on drawing and she is 13 now going to be 14 in her freshman year, the age of an eigth grader, I started her in K instead of preschool way back when!
We are going to do the Prairie Primer with both girls, which will encompass reading and history. DD 7- Math - Haven't decided between Math U See or Rod & Staff Bible - Rod & Staff Spell to Read and Write Rod & Staff for - English, Spelling, Penmanship, Art & Science DD 11 - Math - Teaching Textbooks Rod & Staff for Bible, English, Spelling and Penmanship Latin - not sure what yet. Both will probably take an enrichment class as well.
That's what I wish I had but I started putting some items into Homeschool Tracker and I just got bogged down....plus most of it is on 2 bookshelves and I can see it pretty quickly. Someday.....
