Yeah, I tried that orgainised work thing for a bit but never got past the first semester of work. I may have to do more this year to keep us on track at least give him a spread sheet of lessons due by on a couple of his books. But we both like me to go through the books and write up a "daily work plan" with day by day stuff. It means more work on my part really because I could just write it all ahead and leave it at that, but this way i go by what he is doing and use that creatively... Fun fun!
Normally we use My Fathers World with MUS. I had a hard time staying on track this year though so I am looking at the History Revealed-Ancient Civilizations and the Bible that is put out by Answers in Genesis. It is more of a unit study approach from what I can tell which I like.
The yearly plan I do is very loose. We school year-round with a month between grades, a few planned breaks, and some random breaks when we need a day off. Between the random breaks, 4H, and all the appts with the kids' therapist & psychiatrist, I can't do a strict plan & expect us to stick to it. So, I make a loose plan for the year. Then, I do weekly plans. I look over what we did the previous week, check the calendar for the next week, and decide how much/what work & projects I expect us to get done the next week. The yearly plan is just a guide to keep me from forgetting things. Sometimes we do more than I had in the yearly plan & sometimes we do less. We've never stuck strictly to the plan. I just like to have it so that I know what we plan to do & I'll know where we left off before a break. I'm a little strange when it comes to organization, though. In my attempt to become organized (difficult task with having ADHD & coming from a very disorganized family), I became overly-organized.
I think I'm recovering okay. Poor brain, it's just not used to that word (organization)! My wonderful dh proposed to me on May 9, and every year he remembers it and does soemthing for me on that day! Is that cool, or what?! He wants to take me out to eat this time. I sure do love that guy!
PLAN?!?! PLAN?!?! Are we suppose to PLAN?!?! What I do is get an idea of what subjects I want to teach, get the books, start on page one and stop when we finish, lol!!! OK, so we've barely opened the history book this year. All-American History is BORING, especially Vol. 2!!! Trying to do it "by the book" for two years would have TOTALLY turned my kids off of history!!! So instead, I've been getting all kinds of stuff from the library, and reading bits and pieces from AAH. Does going to the library and emptying the shelves on a given subject count as PLANNING? (BTW, for anyone on WW II, "The Good Fight: How World War II was Won" by Ambrose and "Remember Pearl Harbor: American and Japanese Survivors Tell their Story" by Ballard are good books, easily read! The second one was especially interesting along with the movie "Tora, Tora, Tora".)
