I am so grateful for all of ya'll's (Yes I'm from Texas, kiss my fanny!) input and messages! I really liked the idea (Forgot who's it was) to take favorite items and use them as templates to make new clothes... Cool idea!
Yayyy! I got a sewing machine!! I love my husband! Now I just need to learn how to use it. I requested a book from the library.. I hope it comes in quickly!
Too Cool for You! Have a blast! The first thing, get to know your machine.. Buy $1 scrap material from walmart and practice on it! Sooo happy for you!
yes! I agree with Jennifer, know what each setting does, read the book that comes with it too! Know what not to do before you get started! Then have fun! .. today I get to take back the little kid machine I got my dd, she will probably have to just use mine for now because it seems most of these little machines have the same problems with needles nd bobbins... What is up with that?
Marylyn, how much are you going to pay me for sending Charles that e-mail about your wanting a sewing maching....? (Just kidding! YEAH!!! Good job, Charles!!!)
My sister decided since she is the one who is listing moms things for probate still... after all she is the one still hanging on it all (pray for her she has Scarlet Ohara Syndrome!) She is going to put my dd12's name on moms fancy smancy sewing machine with the cabinet and everything! My mom always had excellent machines wiht all the trimmings so this is very exciting! I was telling my sister how excited then down but handling the fact that my dd 's new machine was misformed or something at anyrate we had to return it. and my sis said she would get to be the one to recieve grama's machine! Tha of course means this summer we will end up renting a trailer or somerthing to get the stuff down here, between my desk from childhood years, my dds sewing stuff, and baby cradle that my mom bought us ... it was bought for Mimi and she is the one who it is to be passed to for the next generation of babe's We are not gonna have room for that in the van unless we leave ds 15 at home! HA! not gonnna happen! Oh well I have six months to plan that trip now! WHAT FUN!
For sure it will. And she will be able to tell her kids some day.."This was my grama juju's sewing machine..." she said that! hehe
I sew all the time and love it! As a matter of fact, that is how I fund homeschooling my daughter. I sew doll clothes for dolls like Chatty Cathy, Betsy Wetsy, American Girl, and several others. I list them on Ebay and usually can't keep up with the demand. People who collect these dolls have entire rooms full of them and dress and redress them like they were their kids. I have gotten anywhere from 15.00 to 75.00 per dress! Crazy!! When I was a little girl my mother made all my dresses. As I got older other than jeans, I made a lot of my clothes. I used to sew for my girls when they were little but now it is almost NOT cost effective. I am like Prarie Home, the clearance sales and thrift store look very attractive!
Wow, Jeannie! That's awesome! Plus, making doll's clothes doesn't require near the amount of fabric needed to make people clothes. So I can see how that works well as a business! You go girl! Bev
I would love to check out your store on Ebay...where can I find your things? We love American Girl dolls and look to Ebay when wanting something new!
I don't have anythign on Ebay right now. When I do I will let you know. My ebay name is havendales_angel. Here are a few dresses I have made in the past. I also have several people that I do special orders for. http://s27.photobucket.com/albums/c187/jeanniedavis/dresses/ I will post when I list some dresses. I have several for sale now. just don't have time to get them listed. LOL
How lovely they look! You do a wonderful ljob. I can see why people (richer than I, lol!) are willing to pay so much for them!
Hi Jackie, I love to sew, knit, & crochet . I have been sewing and crocheting for many years. So many projects to try! I just joined today and saw your post. jdr10
