Tiffany, I think you must live in my house!!! Our "dining room" has three desks (with two computers), a small shelving unit, a shelving sort of thing that sits on a desk to divide papers, and a filing cabinet. As you say, our kitchen table has school books on it M-F from 8:00 to 3:30 or so. Oh, and there are three book cases in our living room, adjacent to our dinning room. I have a table in my bedroom where my sewing machine was suppose to go. It's been cleared off a dozen times, but I think the table must be "paper-magnetic" or something! I can never seem to find the surface of it, lol!

Yes, "paper-magnetic" is a classic expression which describes our house, too. :)

AppleOmyeye, your creations are beauties! It's obvious you're having fun sewing.

There is the itty bitty room upstairs that they call the sewing room. I was in there but it is just too small. Plus everyone comes and bothers me in there. That is why I go to the table downstairs. The itty bitty desk I was using went into my daughter's room so she can do quiet work while I deal with my younger ones.
I will show a picture once I figure out how to insert a picture.

Hope this works. A picture of my DD(6) wearing a hat I made. It fits my DD(1) better. She wants me to make her a blue one with a matching scarf.

If you want a better view, click on it. It takes you to the webshots page I just joined. Don't know how to make them big like everyone elses.

That is my yarn I did a baby blanket out of!! I loved the neutralness(is there such a word?!) of the colors. I made it for my youngest nephew that my sis had a few months ago. I love the veragated yarns as they tend to be a little more funky. I have a v-stitch baby pattern that I love because I realized I can do my original chain stitch as long as I want it to achieve as large as a blanket as I want. I have to blankets going right now-one for my dd 16 that is a soft tan, cream, beige veragated and a baby blanket that is sort of the pink in rainbow sherbert. I normally don't let my self have two going at the same time but I'm in a mood where I can't seem to finish anything!!

I never did get a sewing machine for christmas for dd. It was kind of a weird christmas this year. I ususally know exactly what I am doing for each kid....but this year there was just too much they each needed/wanted. I am hoping for a sewing machine soon, though!!

Really? Our Wal-Mart just opened in late Oct. and they are already going to do away with the sewing stuff? There will be no where else to buy fabric/sewing things here. I guess I should check out the clearance stuff then!

First lay-a-way and now sewing.... what is Wal-Mart coming to?

Are they all closing or by demand? I know my mom mentioned that they are closing where she is in NY but I haven't seen any mention of it at ours.

    Yup!
Some stores, not all... are combining their Sewing, Crafts and Party/cards departments into one section.

They plan to eliminate the cutting table, so there will be not cutting of fabric. They will still sell notions, and machines along with the craft items, like beads and such alongside the greeting cards, and wrapping paper....

Wal-Mart corporate spokesman Kory Lundberg confirmed the store will replace its fabric department with a "crafts and celebrations center," but offered no timeline on that change.

The new department will focus on "craft and party planning needs, along with information on current trends and new ideas in the area of life's celebrations," Lundberg said.

He also said the store will continue to offer sewing machines, yarn, needles, thread and other items "commonly referred to as notions."

    Also, incase you haven't noticed:
Walmart has eliminated it LAYAWAY department!

And keep an eye out for your TV Commercials of walmart, they are changing their advertising from "Made in The USA" To a more "UpScale" clientel...

Apparently, they want to target a Higher income customer and those folks don't sew.

    Hahaha!

I am on a mission to get some official links for you guys. It was all over the web a week or two ago and now I can't find anything.. this is maddening.....

Check with your local walmart because not all walmarts are combining the departments. Yours may not change.

I read, in the newspaper business section that it came down to dollars earned per hour per square foot of floor space. Which makes sense. They want to combine some similar departments and expand their electronics and so on. Whatever works for them...

Also, the thing about their new advertising...
The first thing you should see is a "Down home" return to our roots kind of ad campain, where they try to re-capture the love of Sam Walton, and the family values and so on.... Then later in the year or nextyear, they being to try to distance themselves from being the "Welfare Momma Store" There are trying to copy what Target Stores did a few years back, when they were on the brink of elimination, themselves.... It worked for target, because people wanted a deal and an alternative to Walmart, but I just think that walmart is going to cut off their noses to spite their faces on this move... if they stick with the plan of trying to cater to a high end clientel... just weird....

I wanted to add that I am not that upset that Walmart may close a department. I just thought that if you did not know that you should keep an eye on your store.

It matters to some people, so I was just sharing. Not trying to get a PRO- or ANTI- Walmart thread going...

SO What is your favorite fabric to work with????

Mine is a blend of cotton and rayon! Yea!
