First off I must say that I really can't stand 80's movies at all! (That is except Grease;)) I am wondering if anyone would let their kids watch them? A friend of mine gave me some movies the other day for my kids to watch. After I watched a few and said to myself NO WAY and wanted to put soap in my eyes! I think some of the movies of today aren't good but I look back and think these are well...crap, for lack of better word.

    Can't Buy me Love
    Pretty in Pink
    Breakfast Club
    For Keeps
    Ferris Bueller's Day off
    Weird Science
    Johnny Be Good

I'm with you, Nellie- it's all drivel. That was the worst era for movies. Even Grease, girl!
I guess every decade has it's drivel. The 70's seemed to be all disaster movies, didn't it? Then there was Saturday Night Fever, with my first love- John Travolta!!

Glad I am not alone! They are so awful! There is just something about Grease that I like....maybe John Travolta!! :)

Speaking of John Travolta...one of the worst movies ever he was in was the remake of Hairspray! What a letdown!

Once again I am the oddball. :D Not shocking eh?

I love Can't Buy Me Love and the only one I have never seen is For Keeps. Never heard of it. The rest of them I really liked and I'd let Samantha watch them all. I know shocking right?

I don't think I'd let mine watch them until they are a lot older. I can say none of these were my favs...I watched them & I'm sure back in the day watched it a couple of times (I'm thinking more of Can't Buy Me Love), but now if I see them I may watch them, but I think I've had burn out from most of those movies...they just play them constantly!!!

Im a fan of 80's movies (Grease was 70's though )...though I did watch it many, many, many times during the 80's, 90's and still now.

My kids have watched Grease and love it (but thankfully, a lot of it still goes over their heads). Out of the mentioned movies, perhaps I would let them watch Ferris Beuller (maybe)...the others, when they are older.

80's werent the best time for movies, but my fav. 80's styled movie is Wedding Singer- with Adam Sandler + Drew Barymore - it is the epitome of the 80's...love it !!

Hubby and I love 80's movies, and yes we let our kids watch them. In fact, we felt that oldest was old enough to be brought into the genre of horror movies.. the first one we watched??? Nightmare on Elm Street! (Ok, only throw ripe tomatoes, we want to make 2 more batches of salsa!!)

I wish Samantha would watch scary movies! I loved them when I was a kid and Nightmare was one of my favorites. My friend's mom managed the movies theater in the small town I lived in and we'd go watch horror movies time after time after time. And then go to her house and watch them on HBO! Samantha wouldn't even watch Jaws with us a few weeks ago.

Guys, you've got to be careful of what goes in the mind, because it never goes out.

Oh I loved Dirty Dancing and Purple Rain. Samantha has seen Dirty Dancing and has since found out that her dance teachers grandmother taught Patrick Swazey's mother dance. How cool is that?! Oh and I love Prince!

I am one who believes I have way more influence over my children than some movie. They are fake and my child isn't stupid. She knows it is fake. She isn't going to dirty dance because she saw the movie. She isn't going to wear next to nothing just because the charater in a movie may have. She isn't going to kill someone because she saw it in a movie. Grace is 5 so no I won't let her watch the same things I'd let Samantha who is 12. Although Samantha won't watch scary things anyway and turns away at the first sign of slight nudity - and by that I mean something like a guy taking his shirt off. I saw a lot of movies as a kid and it certainly didn't influence me.

I'm with Tiffany.. I grew up watching raunchy 80's movies, and in my opinion I turned out just fine.

I love 80's movies!!! I love bubblegum, fluff movies!!
My dd's love Ferris Bueller!! ( Bueller..... Bueller)
Weird Science, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club...own them!! Love them!! have the soundtracks!!
License to Drive, Adventures in Babysitting..I could on and on!!!

What about 16 Candles!!! ( own that one too).

My dd's watch the Army of Darkness movies..totally cheesey horror movies.
We just had a Young Guns I & II movie-thon with the girls about 2 weeks ago, threw in Tombstone in there for more western flair.

My dd's watch, Hellboy, Van Helsing, Underworld I & II.
I draw the line at in your face sexual content, violence is o.k sometimes in the theme of the movie and my dd's know it is all fake blood anyway or there would be no way they would be able to watch it.

Sometimes mindless drivel is o.k to watch...I hate always having to watch a movie or T.V. show where I have to learn a lesson about something in!!
I'll happily watch Shaun of the Dead , about the world being overtaken by zombies and you might be forced to kill your mom because she became one, all while cracking the most hilarious jokes you have ever heard!! Actually I did learn how to kill zombies , if I ever come across some though ;)

Crystal you rock girl! I love some of those other movies you named!

What about Girls Just Wanna Have Fun & Footloose? Love them!

We are huge western fans too. I guess I never thought of Young Guns I & II or Tombstone as violent. We own them all and are all hubby's favs.

Ok I loved Grease but not for little kids. I also like Breakfast Club but only for older high school kids. It was rated R back in the 80's so now it would probably be only PG maybe PG 13. Ferris Buller and Wierd Science are cheesy but I might let my 16 yr old watch them. I still enjoy them, Buller..Buller.

    Monkeymamma,

I love Footloose, I have the soundtrack to that one also!!
Young Guns and Tombstone I don't think are violent either , that is how it was back then.

    Crazymama,

I just bought my dh's best friend the directors cut of Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead for his birthday. He said they were great!!
I have 191 movies in my queue and 1/2 are late 70's and 80's T.V shows and movies!!

    How about:
    Better off Dead
    Splash
    Brewsters millions
    Weekend at Bernies
The Vacation movies: christmas, european, etc
    Strange Brew
    Top Secret
    Heathers
    Airplane
    Caddyshack
    Revenge of the Nerds
    Mannequin
    Teen Wolf
    Back to the Future

Holy Cow I thought I was the only dork that loved Top Secret!

"shop at Macey's and love me tonight......oh Nick!"

That is just too freaking hillarious!!!

I was going to mention Caddyshack and Revenge of the Nerds but didn't want any tomatoes thrown at me.

Also love the vacation movies and we often liken our vacations to that of the Griswalds. Samantha has seen the first but none of the other.

And Back to the Future rocks! Hello McFly?!

Oh my you ladies are bringing back some good memories here.

Okay - horror what about April Fools Day, Sleepaway Camp (all of them), Happy Birthday To Me, My Bloody Valentine, Slumber Party Massacre, & All the Jason and Freddy movies.

No one has mentioned Some Kind of Wonderful! Granted, I haven't watched it since my teenage self pined over Eric Stotltz but still...Loved it.

Most of my 80's movies were more like Aliens, Terminator, Mad Max, Nightmare on Elmstreet... I needed horror and sci-fi.
