I am looking to start a 3 day green smoothie challenge and I was wondering if anyone wanted to join me? I am planning to do only green smoothies for that duration, but even those who just want to replace 1 meal with a smoothie could be an encouragement/accountability. If the idea of a green smoothie scares you it is essentially fruit and water/ice/or juice with greens mixed in. I usually do spinach as it is easy to mask.
When are you starting? I could do two a day and would love the accountability. Why just for three days?
I haven't decided when. I will be gone this weekend, so Monday? No rhyme or reason to the 3 day. It just seems like an amount of time that I could stick to and still have some effectiveness. I'm open to suggestions on any of it though.
I have been thinking of doing green smoothies as one meal replacement. Anyone have tried and true good recipes? I'll commit to 3 days. Let me know when.
I use: 1.5 cups water or grape juice (usually water because it's cheaper, no sugar and less fattening.) 1/4 lemon w/peel (good for skin. Get rid of the seeds first.) 6-7 frozen strawberries 2 bananas (tried w/out bananas once, big mistake, it's to bitter for me w/out) 2 handfuls of spinach And an ice tray of ice I would stick to it, but I get tired of making them and I can't seems to buy enough stuff. I am always out of something.
That's what I'm afraid of! I have lots of stuff right now, but my grocery budget for the next twoI would stick to it, but I get tired of making them and I can't seems to buy enough stuff. I am always out of something. weeks is spent, so I'll have to make do with what I have on hand. I have enough for 3 days, I think.
My kids love my green smoothies and since I hate bananas I don't add them. I add 1-2 cups of spinach, 2-3 cups of frozen fruit (my kids like the tropical mix from costco), about 1ish cups of water and mix! I should say I have a bledtec so I don't know if this would work in a regular blender. If you like it sweeter add less spinach and more fruit! Because the fruit is already frozen I don't add ice.
I actually don't have a blender. I do have a single serving smoothie maker. We use it all the time to make smoothies for the kids. I hope it'll work!!
Wow, thanks for turning me on to green smoothies. I read this thread and investigated green smoothie recipes. I found www.greensmoothiegirl.com and watched some of her tutorials. I am sold. They sound wonderful! I can't wait to try them!
I made one today with water, spinach, and frozen mixed berries. It was OK, but not great. Good enough that I could drink it.
Ok made one today with water, spinich, bananas, and blueberries with a touch of orange juice since thats all I had in the fridge. It was pretty good!
I love this site...incredible smoothies dot com. Then go to green smoothies. I'm too new to this forum to be able to put the link up, but the site is wonderful for recipes that you look up by fruit. So, let's shoot for Monday, April 22nd (earth day, how appropriate) and go thru Wed.
Ok, I don't know if anyone is with me, but I am currently enjoying the first green smoothie of this 3 day challenge. Here's what I used: 1 overripe banana 2 cups of Romaine (my spinach was gross. I recommend spinach if you are just starting as you can't really taste it. You can taste the romaine, but I still think it's yummy). 2 cups of a frozen fruit mix that has pineapple, peaches, strawberries and mango (I was gone at a homeschool conference all weekend, so I knew I'd have to go the easy route). 1 Cup water YUM This made a TON of smoothie I'd love to hear if anyone else is on board for these three days. I have a feeling this may get tougher.
I did three days last week and am up for doing it again. My fruit supply is lower than last week, so I'll be winging it. I did just strawberries, spinach, and water once last week, and it was pretty good.
Smoothie #2 is technically purple. 2/3 cup frozen blueberries Handful of Romaine 1 overripe banana 1/4 avocado Orange Juice It is pretty good. I can't even taste the avocado, but it will help fill me up. I'd love to hear your favorite recipe!
