I haven't forgotten... a little pre-occupied right now (more like my mind is in space) but still dreaming. Hmmmm.... where do they give these shots and when? Kris - I'll give you yours if you give me mine

Ummmm, I'd say Kris gets the better end of that deal. At least you are a nurse! Not sure if Kris has "shot giving" training??? :D

Tomorrow morning (May 10)I talk with our Health Care Provider's "Travel Nurse" to see what she has to say about what I will need in Kenya specifically. Then I really need to get goin' on the rest of the stuff I need! Just barely over a month to go now! WOW!

You can weigh whatever you want/are Jackie! :D

Well, the yard sale is done. We made $134. Not a lot, but still we're that much closer to our goal! We have a long way to go. Can't seem to rouse people to help financially support this trip. We feel sure we were called to do this, but aren't sure how the money is going to come in! But that's okay---God will provide!

We leave in less than a month and don't have all the money yet, not even close. So please pray for God to work in a mighty way to get the money to us! This is certainly a faith building project!

We cleaned out all kinds of junk Thursday and Friday. I found some really big elastics I use to keep the sheets on bunk beds. Thought maybe they'd make good bungee cords.....

Deena, I hope and pray the money comes to you all soon.

Thanks Kris, prayers are very needed and appreciated!!

Hey, this is interesting (at least I think it is! :) ): When we were done with the yard sale on Friday, I called a friend of ours, cuz their church is going to have a big sale soon, so I told him I wanted to donate our stuff that hadn't sold. He and his wife came by in their pickup today to pick up the stuff. We loaded and loaded, and there was still some good stuff left over when their pickup was jam-packed full. They live about 30 minutes from where we live, and we were just discussing/wondering what to do, cuz with such high gas prices, they weren't sure they could come back out. Just then a St. Vincet DePaul truck drove by, turned around, and came and stopped at the foot off our driveway. We motioned them to come in, so they backed up, opened the back of their truck and started loading stuff up. Okay, so here's the kicker: The truck was empty, so I asked the driver if he was in our neighborhood (we're a mile or so in from the main road) to pick stuff up somewhere. He looked at me and said, "No, that's the weird thing. We've never driven in here before, but for some reason we just pulled into this neighborhood and drove out toward your house. I'm still not sure why we did it!" I said, "I know why! God led you out here, because He knew we needed you!" He just said, "Yeah, okay. Maybe so." But it was pretty cool to me!!! And maybe it'll help him or the other guy that was with him at some point in their life when they remember this happening!

The neat things about this is: They didn't plan on coming out, and we didn't know we were going to need them until right around the time they showed up! God worked this out when we didn't even know there was going to be a problem! This way we were able to donate to two worthy causes, and also to plant a seed that I have no doubt will grow!

    God is sooooo awesome!!!! :D

Deena, What a wonderful and neat story. Yes, God does work in neat ways and is awsome. Glad you all could help some other people out too.

A bit over 3 weeks until I leave.....amazing! I still can't believe I'm going! Aside from the extra shots, things are kind of the same---school, groceries, laundry, etc., so it just doesn't seem real yet, kwim?

I have to pay $3,200 for this trip, but God is working with me on raising money! I sent out letters to 31 people. Last week I got $90 back, and this week I got.........(drum roll please)..........$500!!! That means I have a little over $1600, so I'm over half way! It's interesting to see how God works, and where the money has come from and where it will be coming from! And, we've decided that if it's not all covered, then that's okay. God knows what he's doing. We'll just cover the rest, and learn more about sacrificing to help others! Compared to the people I'm going to be working with there, we've got sooo much! And I know God will provide our needs, whatever they may be!

Okay, done with this update! :D Thanks for your continued prayers!

Thanks Kris, I appreciate you and your prayers!

I will leave June 12 and return July 6, so will be gone for 3 weeks. It will be hard to be away from my family that long. I haven't been away from my dh or children that long, ever! But sometimes God calls you to do things that you are uncomfortable with to help you grow in some way. It'll be interesting to see what God has in store for me!

I will try to send postcards to those who would like one! I'll leave a message on one of the other forums about it...

Deena, I understand it's got to be very hard. I will be praying for you and your family during the time you are gone. If theres anything I can do let me know. I know I am far away. But, I can pray.

Prayers is what I would most like, Kris! So if you and your girls can pray for me each day while I'm gone that would be the very best thing you could do! Pray also for the people I will be working with: the other missionaries and the local people as well!

Thankyou VERY much! I'm so glad I am on Homeschool Spot! It's great to be able to share like this, and know people are praying!

Great Amy! My dd has started also! I wrote the message about the idea on the "Anyone want a postcard from Africa?" thread. So anyone that doesn't know what we're talking about can go to that thread in the homeschooling section to see what it's about. :D

    Another update:

Two weeks and three days until we leave! I got in another $275 from the letters I sent out! I sent 31 letters, and have gotten 9 responses to total $865, just from the letters! That's a pretty good response, I'd say! That puts me a bit over $2000 that I've received, which means there's $1200 left to raise. Since God called me to go, I will trust that He will provide by working on peoples hearts, or whatever way He sees fit!

Yesterday my younger two went with me to different places to get some things I need for the trip. It took quite awhile, but we came back with little things--hairspray, Tylenol, shampoo, etc., etc. We got a bunch of travel size things that I was told I would need.

Because of things like that the trip is starting to seem more real! Before we've just been in the same routine, but now we're gearing up more. I'll probably pull out suitcases tomorrow and start setting things in there.

Anybody have an idea of a good way to put all those little travel things in something so they're all together, and can be seen and found?

I always put those type things in gallon zipper bags. That way if they happen to leak, everything in your suitcase isn't covered with shampoo (or whatever spills). You keep them all togehter, too.

I do that with my lotions, hairspray and shampoos. But that's a good idea to just put all of it in bags so it's all together! Thanks Pam!
