Oh my goodness you ladies have reminded me of some of the stange things that have been in my mouth... I have eaten cocolate covered ants, pickled pigs feet and oh this is bad really bad I ate a slug once!!! OH IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!! It wasn't on purpose, we were playing kick ball and I tripped and fell and there was a slug just as my face hit the ground... that slime does NOT go away.... uggg just thinking about it.. something that happened my goodness.. 20 some years ago... makes me want to throw up!
Handsome like Pozole but will not eat Menudo. He said the thought of eating tripe and pigs feet ruins the whole thing for him.LOL
I love pickled pigs feet. My mom would buy a couple of jars and we would all sit down and pig out on them. EDITED: I had to correct my spelling. I don't know why but I am misspelling soooo many words lately.
My grandmother made the best vegetable soup, ever. Everytime I went to her house she would make a big pot of it. One time she made it and I took a big bowl of it. I bit into the meat and wanted to throw up. It was gritty and not very good tasting. It was cow's tongue. I didn't know what to do, but grandma knew, she told me I could spit it out. I was always leary about grandma's soup after that.
Well the wierdest thing i have eaten, and keep in mind we are a little redneck here, is pig balls, or as they refer to them here, mountain oysters, lol. I didnt know what it was till after i ate it obvioiusly, they fry them, and i had no idea. Honestly, they didnt taste too bad, but just the thought, ugh!
It was a good thing I wasn't drinking anything or my laptop would be wet. I laughed so hard that dh is looking at me funny. Should I tell him why, YES!!!! I would rather eat a cow's tongue anyday
I think Mountain Oysters are balls of any kind; I've heard it in reference to cow balls. Anyone here ever try haggis? Basically sheep's brain, traditionally cooked in the sheep's stomach.
Hubby has been eating pickled cow heart lately (it's butchering season here and most of our cows went to slaughter).... I can't even bring myself to try it... yuck.
Was at mil's house and smelled something that had the fragrance of a locker room. It was goat meat. Almost ate it, does that count? Weirdest thing? Ruffles dunked in ranch dressing!
Goat meat is great! Like any other meat, it has to be prepared a certain way or it tastes bad. Also, I find that the meat of unaltered males tends to taste gamey compared to an altered male; cow, pig, goat, and pig. My dad raised most of our meat. My mom would cook the goat in a red chili sauce. Wow, was it great.
Anyone ever eat hog maw? I used to like it when I was small, until my mean brother told me what it is. It's a hog's stomach, stuffed with potatoes, carrots and onions, and baked. So, it's like eating a hog'sbelly after he filled up on vegetables!
My great aunt used to cook something that smelled horrible! As a child I hated going to her house because the smell lingered. I can't remember what it was but it honestly smelled like poop.
