JACKIE!!!!! Today Jeanne and I caught the last twenty or so minutes of Arthur, the one where there's a big snowstorm and they all go to Arthur's house. A girl on there had a Ouija (SP??) board!! I did not like that at all. That's another whole ballgame, the Ouija board and tarot cards. To me, it was irresponsible of them to have the girl doing that.
Oh, yeah! That would be Fern, right? That is one of the old episodes that steered me away from Arthur .
Well, when they can't corrupt the minds of the adults (probably because many adult minds are already corrupt), they take aim for the innocent children :x Probably why I could care a less if we had a television or even cable  Brenda
We, as parents, are sometimes guilty of not watching what are kids are watching  . We begin watching a program with a child for a few episodes.... then, when we think it is safe for them to watch without us, they sneak something in.... ! Ack! I hate when that happens :x. It least it helps us keep on our toes !
They want us to assume that because it's children's programming on "educational" television that everything is A-OK. NOT!!!! There was a big uproar a few months ago about Buster Bunny visiting a friend who had 2 mommies.
LOL. There's a thread about that somewhere around here... Postcards From Buster, I think the thread is called.
and then there was Sesame Street... another version of someone with a twisted mind and a sick sense of humor.
Yea you have to watch everything your children your children watch now days. Just look at some of the video games coming out if parents don't play them first you might be surprise what the children learn. So Sad
I still have that standard for Kevin. No R rated, violent, cursing, etc., etc. My husband thinks I'm too strict with a 19 year old. I say his mother wasn't strict ENOUGH and now I'm paying for it!!!
Maybe the problem is that we fit in so well with the patterns of the world that for some this kind of junk doesn't bother them anymore (no one here - I can see it in the posts that we all care very much for our children). That or we live in a world with absolutely no morals what so ever (those of us who do have them are few and far between these days). And I used to like watching Sesame Street as a child - couldn't wait for it to come on  Brenda
Jeannie is a Nickelodeon girl, and so far so good there. Well, up to 2p.m. when the Rugrats come on. I CANNOT, CANNOT stand Angelica.
Becky you make me laugh so. That is why you are here. God sent you to entertain me. As long as he is in your house make him follow your rules. The husband I mean!!!!!!
Lorna, my husband drives me nuts!!! I recently found a stash of r-rated, murder/slasher/bloody movies hidden in Kevin's room . I pay the turd for cleaning the house and he uses the money to buy that trash. I took the whole lot- at least 15 dvds, and told Dean to take them to the local thrift store as a donation. He didn't. He kept them in his trunk. I was steamed. How dare he ignore my choice for that garbage? He told me I was wrong to take them and said so in front of Kevin. He's always undermining me with him. Always commenting on my standards like I'm an idiot. The other day in the car Kevin was listening to a rap song about bananas, and every other word was a swear word. I told Kevin to turn it off. Would you believe Dean started repeating some of the things in the song??? That's the kind of thing i can't stand- mocking me when I'm trying to make Kevin and even Jeannie obey my standards.
Oh, Becky~ that would drive me crazy! Brian and I are very much on the same page with issues like that. It would upset me, if I were you, and Dean were undermining my rules and standards. Keep up the good work, though!!!
Wowee....been there....took dh a drastic wake-up call in the form of me requesting him leave...which he did....but I must say it was just what we needed. Not that I am saying you need that at all....but I do understand how it feels to have a hubby basically spit in your face and tell the kid just the opposite of what you just said }(
Is there something about Sesame Street that I am not seeing that everyone else does? Tanner watches it, that's why I'm asking. I haven't found anything to be concerned about.
I haven't watch Sesame Street in a while, but I'd guess that since they are the Public Television flagship they are probably subscribing to an "I'm okay, you're okay" doctrine. Relativism reigns, as does evolution and homosexuality. Like I said, I haven't seen it in a while, but I'm guessing they are all about teaching kids "tolerance".
That makes sense. The whole "nothing is wrong with that" philisophy and "everyone deserves equality", even on air.
Jen, I think they introduced a muppet who has HIV, but it's a child and I'm not sure if they say how she got it. She might even be from another country. I forget the whole story. Try googling Sesame Street and see what you can find. Brooke you're right, it feels like the husband is spitting in your face when they undermine you. Kevin gets a lot of his attitude and mouthiness from copying his dad's attitude toward me.
