I am so thankful not to be in the ice storms, how terrible for those with out power already. Stay warm Kris, get prepared incase you loose power. Take a "snow day" anyway.

Oh, they have closed most the school down here already or delay them. Want to be safe. We are ready if something happens, we are doing school anyway today. Gives the girls something to do since they can't be outside, this way when it's nice out we can be out.

Sorry Kris, I would help you but I can't. We are having the same problem here. Our weather is having some issues of its own. We are having high winds too and people's pipes are breaking because of the freeze. We had deep freeze warnings in effect but it was ridiculous when I went out yesterday morning. Handsome's outdoor water bowl was frozen solid and it is a huge container. Lately, it has been frozen on top, so when Ems went to break it yesterday morning, we were in for a surprise. So he ended up having ice water all day.:D
It really didn't matter being that he is in the house most of the day. Well, if you find a way to get ride of this weather, let me know. I do not mind the cold. I can't stand the ice.:) Especially with Handsome having to drive down the hill.

All this weather has been crazy!! For some reason, we have missed all of the snow and ice. Of course, we have had ALOT of rain. There is flooding in areas and I read in the paper this am that some area had to use sandbags. That is not normal around here! This morning we finally are getting a little snow and the temps are way down!! I was beginning to wonder if we would ever have a winter?

How is everyone doing out there that is dealing with all this snow and ice? I have been thinking of Prairiehome. I know there power has been out a few times and she hasn't been able to get on here much to check in with us!! I hope they are doing ok...as well as everyone else affected by all this craziness!

Oooops, sorry Kris, I just thought you wanted cold weather for a change, so I sent it to ya! ;)

We were in the teens last night. Then it warmed up some and snowed again early this morning, but didn't last long. We probably only got 1/2 an inch or so. They had warnings for up to 6 inches---that's what my kids were hoping for!

When it gets so cold, before we go to bed, my dh turns on every faucet in the house (one at a time) and lets it run until there's hot water. He makes sure to get hot water in all the pipes, which makes them less likely to freeze. Just an idea in case someone hadn't thought of it.

My dad used to put those heater wire things, I don't know what they are called, around our pipes under the house and around the water heater. Handsome hasn't done that and I keep telling him we are going to be in for a surprise one morning if this weather keeps up. So thanks for the tip, Deena. I am going to try this.:D
We have been getting down in the mid teens. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the wind chill. It makes it unbearable. When your body gets used to having 117 degree days in summer, then it is a shock to your body.
My SIL came to visit some years ago and it was early spring. The temperature was 90 degrees and she swore she would never come over again. To her it was scorching. We had to laugh because she sent us some pictures of her family and they are all wearing t-shirts and shorts in the snow.:D They live in Colorado so I guess it is all what your body is acclimated to.

C'mon down, there's plenty of room for everyone. The property we are work camping on is 80 acres so... bring your tents, trailer, RV's whatever. Oh, btw I hope you aren't afraid of alligators, we have plenty.

I hope that's not true. I actually looked at a 10 day forcast for our area last night. We have a 30% chance of rain over the next 2 days. That will bring the high down to 65. I can manage 65. We did however get into the 20's last year hear which is very unusual.

As far as the pipes, I was taught to leave one faucet dripping at night, the farthest point from the water source as this keeps water going. I don't use hot, just cold, and it has worked. We were almost 80 yesterday and tomorrow we are supposed to be in the 40's. I had warned the kids we were in for payback. One of my first winters here we had 90 in Jan. and snow a week later!

Hey Kris pretty crazy weather for Texas huh?

My parents live an hour north west of Houston and they had ice but we didn't. The kids were hoping it would snow. Talked to a friend in Minnesota this morning and he said it was negative 5.

My dd is bummed. Some friends of ours, who live in lower areas than we do got 3 inches of snow this morning, to our 1/2 inch! ;)

By Thursday, we're s'posed to get way up to 42 degrees! That'll be way warmer than what we've had for quite awhile now!
