The boys and I went to see this yesterday afternoon. I read quite a few reviews beforehand, and it seemed people either hated it or loved it.

Put us on the list of those who loved it! :D We didn't see anything dark about it, not nearly as scary as some of the parts in the first movie. There was only one bad word that I caught. We all thought it was hilarious. My boys are 13 (next week) and 15 and they were laughing aloud.

A lot of people are trying to compare Johnny Depp's performance as Willy Wonka to Gene Wilder's. For us, we loved Depp's portrayal of the character, but I'm a fan of his work anyway. The boys thought the oopa-loompas were the funniest part. The little boy that plays Charlie is adorable.

So that's my opinion of the movie--lots of fun! :D

I took my girls to see the movie too and I love it alot better then I did the first one I think it is so good. And Johhny Depp is wonderful in this movie and makes the movie. My girls laughed aloud during the movie seemed like most of the movie and they loved it too.
So add me on and girls on the list for likely it.

Thanks for that post. I like to hear from other people before going to see a movie...or renting one (we don't usually have the $$$ to go to the theater  ).

We have the first movie. Do they use the same songs as the first one? I know the Umpa Lumpas (or however that is spelled) sang songs about parents being to blame for bratty kids and I remember thinking that some of the things wouldn't fly today (like their references to TV and gum chewing  )....tell us more!!!! :D

Looks like I will be the only one seeing Wonka, my husband and boys don't have any interest in seeing it. Guess I will wait for netflix to have it on dvd. Glad to read the reviews! Being the only female in the house besides a dog, goose, ducks and chickens I sometimes get out-voted. :(

Yes, Lumpy, I am a Depp fan. I'll admit it! :D

The Oompa-loompa songs (according to my son) have the same lyrics as the ones in the book. In the song they sing about Veruca they do point at her dad & tell him he's to blame for her being a brat. The difference is that in this new version they sing their songs in different ways. I don't know if I can explain. :? It was like a big stage production & the music was different styles. Like one song was kind of Michael Jacksonish (would that represent the '80's?), one was like '70's style, another was kind of like rock style (oompa-loompas playing electric guitars). Anyway, the boys thought it was a hoot!

There's also this whole backstory about Willy Wonka as a little boy. His father was a famous dentist & didn't allow any candy for little Willy. That's why he has those big perfect teeth. :D For anyone who has had their kid in braces & headgear, that hideous contraption on little Willy's head isn't too far from the truth! Anyway, Willy becomes estranged from his father & lives more or less as a recluse in his chocolate factory. I won't give away the ending, but there is a very strong pro-family message in this film. :D

I feel for you, settlers. I too am the only female in the house, and that includes our animals, even our fish  . I am hoping our next child will be a girl :p When that ever happens...maybe in the year...2020 :( .

I would love to see the new Charlie and The CF. We will probably have to wait to see it on video since movies are so darn expensive. I think they are about $10.00 here now.

BTW, I actually like the song about Veruca and her being a brat and am glad it's still in there. I hope it opens up the eyes of some of the aweful spoiling parents out there!!!

Rumpledoodles: I love Johnny Depp too! I even think he's cute when he's all scruffy looking :D .

Wow JenPooh that is alot of money for a movie I thought it was alot of money down here it's 5.00 dollars before six then after six it's 7.00 dollars. We also have a 50 cent movie house here but some times it takes along time for the movies to get to the 50 place. But, alot of time we wait till they do. Nice place to go.

Wow, $10 for movie admission! Up until a bit over a year ago, we only paid $1 for the matinee showing. Then a new cinema opened up and now it's $4 for the matinee, and we complained about the jump in ticket price! :D We only go once or twice a year since there's not many good movies that come out.

I just checked the movie theatre website just to double check. I was a tad off, but it's still $8.75 for one admission. Matinees are $6, which isn't so bad. However, this is why I haven't been to a movie theatre in over two years!!! I would never pay $8.75 to see a movie. Maybe $6, but even that's pushing it. Maybe a movie that just totally has to be seen on the big screen in order to get the full effect.

We'll wait until it's at the cheap theater...$1 before 6, $1.50 after 6, and .50 all day Tuesday. My whole family can go for less than we pay for just one at the regular theater.

21-Jump Street!!! Hey, Rumps, are you as old as I am?!?! That was the one where they were undercover cops, with Dom DeLuise's son?

(I admit my sinful nature won out and I LOVED "Pirates of the Caribean"!!!)

    Are you talking about Grease?

If so, I believe that I was 2 years old when it came out. I believe I saw it the first time around since that is when I started watching it. I have a HUGE love of music which is why I took so greatly to it when younger. I didn't get the story, I just loved to watch the musical numbers. Since then, I have probably seen it at least once a year.

Or are you talking about 21 jump street? 21 Jump Street I saw the first time around, but I wasn't an avid watcher. I think I was a little too young to get into it, but I LOVED watching Johnny...(drool)!

Jen you must have been , what, 10 or so when that was on?? Didn't you post before that you were born in '77? Wasn't Jump Street on in 87? Kevin was born in 86 and he was young when that was on.

I base everything on 'how old was Kevin', or 'was Jeannie here yet??' My kids are my yardsticks by which I measure time!!
