Ha ha...I guess that does answer that for ya, huh? I don't know if anyone here is apart of the Christian Science church. We are not...that is why I did not respond. I figured if someone here is, they would respond! I take it you are affiliated with the Christian Science church? I personally do not know much about it. Is that the same as Scientology?
No, not the same as Scientology and many think that so do not feel alone. I was raised in that belief system but have gone on to my own beliefs. My Dad was devout for many years and Grandma still is and there are some 'issues' coming up because of it so figured I could exchange views here if anyone belonged!
Some time ago I had a question about Jehovah's Witnesses and no one would admit to being one. I know there are some here. I guess everyone is afraid there will be a back and forth. I can understand that.
Oh, I just had a few questions about it, and really there would be no back and forth, I could even PM. Oh well. I just figured since it said Christian Issues it was meant for that. Sadness
Well, It still could just be that no one really is a part of Christian Science...not saying that it is "wrong" or anything, but that we just don't happen to have anyone here who knows about it. Maybe if there is anyone who knows about it, they could pm you and then wouldn't have to worry about it turning into a debate. I, myself, would be interested in knowing what it is about..since I have not heard of it. Hope you can find your answers, Kristen!
I figured no one was but then I read Becky's post and wanted to reassure people of they were worried about it being a debate that it was not like that at all! Hehe!
I am not, but we have a Christian Science church in our town. I always wondered if it was a division of Scientology, which to be honest, wigs me out because God isn't even a sole part of the "church" (Scientology that is). Not really sure what Christian Science is but if you care to enlighten us you are more than welcome to post some information. No PM's necessary, you can feel free to post on this thread. I'm always up for educating myself on other's beliefs, even if it's not the path I have chosen. What would be the main difference between that (Christian Science) and a basic Christian church, if you don't mind me asking?
Here is a website that I found in regards to Christian Science: http://www.beliefnet.com/index/index_10123.asp
My family is having some issues pertaining to it with grandma and stepmom when it comes to medical and wanted to be able to share/bounce ideas off of someone who had been involved or had good knowledge of the religion. DH and I do not practice it. ETA it is not Scientology though, sorry, forgot to add that. They do believe in God and read the Bible
This is what I got from what I gathered. I guess I can understand the fact that they hold prayer at a high standard for healing because prayer is mighty powerful, but I guess I don't understand comparing that to Jesus' miracles. He was the son of God, we are not. In my opinion, we are not able to heal people like Jesus did. I guess I'm also a bit funny about it because it was an experimental drug that saved my cousin's life when she was 4 and dying of cancer. Not saying God did not play a part in it because he totally did, but at that time my family were not believers and I totally believe that God sent those doctor's to our family for her health and brought her that drug to save her life. I do believe though that this world is overly medicated on a whole. I wont go into it any futher because I do not want to start a debate or anything, but seeing how my other cousin is addicted to prescription meds right now, it upsets me how loose some doctors are about prescribing certain things, especially "head" medicine. Sorry if I upset anyone with any of my comments. Just trying to understand it I guess.
I honestly see both sides also People can die because of it, I feel that God created technology, or enables it at the very least People are over medicated, especially kids. This is the great debate our family is having right now, both sides, DH side of the family has the whole drug the kids thing going on and my side does not get how meds do/do not work at all. One extreme or the other.
I think when you go to the extremes is when you start asking for trouble, in my opinion. I hope your family can come to agree in the middle, or at least agree to disagree. I know sometimes that is hard.
Yes, and my stepmom just got out of the hospital and she has MS, the docs said she had OD'd. What is shocking is her DH, my DAD is the one who raised us as Christian Scientists (since then converted) and he, I do not think, gets that going from his belief of no meds to letting her meds be a free for all can be dangerous. It is hard to explain and I am thinking his lack of understanding of how meds work and that there is such thing as addiction to them etc is something he does not 'get' maybe due to his background?
I think when you go from one extreme to the next it is hard to see things in the middle. I think it's also so easy to trust doctors. I mean, afterall, they have a degree and experience in their field right? But there are not enough people who educate themselves about those things and they just take their doctor's word for it. Maybe he should do some educating on it for his sake, and his wifes. At least when you have all the information in front of you, you can usually make a better informed decision and opinion.
I know, but try to tell your dad that. That is where I am having the issue and wondering how other CS transitioned over and if it was as extreme, from no faith in docs to blind faith type thing, know what I mean?
