Okay, I take that back, it was a pot holder she made that had cinnamon in it. The neck thing didn't have anything. Sorry about that!
yes crazymama those potholders are cool, my youngest made me one in Bible school one year and still have it. It smells so nice..
I am sure you could but extracts have oils. You might be better off using real vanilla beans. Now, I know you can purchase these beads that absorb fragrances but I have no idea what they are called. Sorry.
I don't think I would put vanilla extract in it. If you want other scents, maybe you could try some good quality essential oils... but only a drop or two. I would make sure they are good quality, and I would maybe lay out the rice or flax seed out on a towel, put a drop or two on it, and let it air dry for a few days before I put the grain in the bag. I think for my mom, I may make an eyemask shaped rice bag.. not really thick, but something she could warm or chill.. wouldn't that be nice??
With the rice socks, you may want to include a note of warning not to let them stay in the microwave too long. My mom warned me ahead of time that they don't smell too good if you scorch the rice! I do mine in 30 sec increments until it is warm enough. I never thought of chilling it!
I have also heard rumors of the rice exploding, and you should use flax instead.. but of everyone I know who had a rice sock, no one that I have personally spoken to has had one explode.
Wow! You guys have some great ideas!! I always wait until the very last minute but this year I decided we were starting to craft gifts SOON. I Have one gift done. it is a raggedy edged quilt that will go to my nephew. I didn't actually make it for him but it fits him. I am going to make his twin sisters each a doll. Dinky baby dolls to be exact. They are SO cute and SO easy to make. My girls LOVE them. They received them last Christmas and still play with them all the time. They pick them over any of the other dolls they have most of the time. The raggedy quilt is made of old blue jeans and goes together really quick once you cut all the squares out. I only do throw size. I use flannel fabric on the other side. The bluejeans are so heavy that you don't need batting. They are SUPER nice. I'm making my kids jammies as well. It's a tradition to always have new jammies to wear to bed on Christmas Eve. We are going to make LOTS of homemade ornaments this year too. I have been saving our old light bulbs all year long. And we have LOTS. We are going to paint them into snowmen and santas and hang them on the tree. I saw the idea somewhere but never got around to doing it before. I am also going to be baking LOTS of cookies and breads for friends and neighbors. I thought about cookies in a jar and making aprons to go with them. I also plan on giving each family on our list a homemade ornament with the year on it.
I have my first Cabbage Patch shirt done.. It was supposed to be a dress but I ran out of that color of yarn, so it's a shirt. I'm going to take a denim dress that DD outgrew and make a little pair of jeans to go with it, and have to make some kind of booties for her feet. I will take pics when I get the jeans done. I have a dress in the works, following the same pattern, but this yarn I know I have enough of
Sounds nice!!!! I just received a few orders for cards and candles. So I am going to make these this week and then start up on the other crafts again next week.
