You know MamaBear. The more I think about it, I hope my last post didn't sound insincere. I am sorry to hear about your mom and dad.
Although Handsome chose to stop drinking, he oddly enough lost his wife to a drunk driver and his two girls lost their mom. So I honestly could see how the posts could be offensive. For whatever reason, he just didn't think they were.

    Again, I am sorry.

My mom had just celebrated the year the drs. said she had to live when my dad had his car accident. My mom and grandma were right behind my dad when he had his accident. My mom and grandma climbed down the mountain to get to my dad and my dad died in my mom's arms after 32 years of marriage. After that, my mom went off the deep end with her drinking.

My dad was legally intoxicated when he had his accident, so you can say that alcohol tore my family apart. My sister and her kids are also alcoholics, I chose to never-ever drink!

Congrats to your dh for being sober. It's a hard thing to overcome and when you dont it can tear a family apart.

I personally do not have a problem with alcohol in and of itself. It is the people who drink that cause the problems. Still, I do not drink. For one, I have a very low tolerance to alcohol and two, I would never want to put myself in the position of even remotely getting tipsy, let alone drunk.

Alcoholism has been a huge problem on my dads side of the family. My moms too but not the same extent. Sadly my uncle killed four people and himself drinking and driving. He was driving on the wrong side of the freeway in the middle of the night and slaughtered a family.
The next morning I read about it in the paper and I knew it had to be him. So I called my dad, he called my aunt and sure enough, it was him.

Sorry if I said anything to offend you, MamaBear! It was not my intent. Thank you though for bringing this to our attention, I know none of us wanted to cause any issue. Sadly we tried to lighten the mood at the expense of something hurtful to you, MamaBear and to whoever else may be offended. Again, thank you for saying something so we could simply end it.

    Thanks.:D

You know, Handsome has a lot of regrets about his drinking but what comes to his mind is that he lost so many years of his life. Our older daughter doesn't drink but our middle daughter, I can honestly say, is probably an alcoholic. She will say no but she has already been picked up for drunk driving. She almost hit a police car. Actually, it was a blessing she got caught because it got her off the road. She told us she wasn't drinking any more but our oldest told us that she still is. Handsome feels that he gave a poor example and he did. Still, I told him that it is her choice. She is an adult.

I really hoped and prayed that my parents would stop drinking. When my dad passed away I knew he was intoxicated and the reports indicated that to be true.

Alcoholism is a bad thing to have and unfortunately a very difficult thing to overcome because once an alcoholic you will always be one, a recovering alcoholic. Each and every day can be a struggle and it takes a VERY strong person to stop drinking, lots of help and support of family. Unfortunately, my parents were not that strong. Some people dont understand just how hard it is for an alcoholic to quit drinking.

Losing my parents, especially my dad is still very painful. My ds had to finish making the poster for Red Ribbon Day because I became so emotional.

    God bless you and yours.

    Hi all,

I just found the forums today, and couldn't help but read through all 25 pages of this thread. This is a topic that I feel very passionate about, although after reading all of this, I'm feeling strangely hungry for chicken. Hope no one minds me bring the discussion back to Halloween.

There is also Reformation Day that coincides with the 31st. We will be attending a celebration on the 30th.

I have heard this argument often, but our celebrations of Christmas and Resurrection Day (Easter) are truly Christ centered.

    Exactly.

I'm so sorry you had experience that. I lived in Salem, MA, for years, and saw these "celebrations" and all the horror that lead up to the Satanic Halloween celebration, and that was the end of Halloween for me. I couldn't possibly celebrate it. Every cell in my body react in horror at the thought of it. Nope, can't do it, and I didn't even grow up in it. God bless you!
Yes! These evil practices are still very much on-going!

I'm so glad to find these forums, looking forward to getting to know you.

    Blessings,
    Carol
