My ds graduated a year early and received a diploma from Abeka Academy at the age of 17. He was fully prepared for adult life as he is very mature and always been an independent thinker and student. He wanted a full time job right away and take on line college classes. He only had issues with employers looking at the fact that he was only 17 and not giving him credit for being ambitious and working hard to graduate early. Finally, he was blessed with a full time, well paying career that he LOVES as a Title Clerk and Deputy Elections Clerk. It was nice to see someone acknowledge his diligence and give him a chance. His new boss told my dh and I that she never saw his application, she hired him because he came to her well dressed asking for a job. She told him she didn't have any available, called him several weeks later for an interview and hired him right on the spot. Interesting twist, the other departments who didn't hire my son expressed their regret that they didn't snatch him up when they had the chance. His boss told dh and I that he is a really hard worker and learns quickly and is now teaching his fellow co-workers. My point, I feel kids can do what ever they set out to do. (((( )))) Kudos to you for having such a bright and ambitious child. Congrats!
sfweb what part did you not agree with? The idea that its as good as or not as good as? After all I was stating that I was wondering if I was old fashioned or not lol. Wow this was an old post! The kid I was talking bout back then is in College now haha.
We have always issued our own diplomas to our children Here is the company that we use. They have really nice looking ones. A couple of our children got GED's just because they wanted to take the test to see how they would do. So they have both http://www.homeschooldiploma.com/diplomas-and-diploma-covers/high-school-diplomas-for-home-schools.html
This may be an old post but I have enjoyed reading most of it. My children will receive both. A diploma to satisfy me as I am their teacher and know they have earned it. A GED to satisfy my husband so he knows they did actually learn something.
