Beth got to warn you, you will be very popular!!!! Everyone loves overseas postcards I would stock up too before you go cause you can still trade them even when your back in the states most people dont mind where the post mark is from as long as the card was from that area. Where abouts in Texas are you going?

    RancherMom,

Do you have any idea how HARD it was to find postcards in this city!???

    Holy Cow!

    None at Walmart #1.
None at Walgeens #1 (No Maps either, Weird)
None at CVS Pharmacy (No maps either, strange)
None at Walmart #2 (But they did have maps!)

Finally, exasperated, I stumble into Walgreens #2. I took a chance and asked the clerk, "Do you have maps or postacrds, because we can't find any in the whole city."
He points me to a whole section of Texas and Houston related suvineers... WOW!

    So I can play, now!
But I am still going to find some better ones.....
"Houston" and "Texas" is not exactly unique.

    Hi.
I hs my dd11 and ds10. We started hs in 2005. We love unit studies too - maybe we can share some?

I also work as a midwife, and dh works in pathology, so it is usually pretty full on around here.

We have a grapefruit tree, but we don't like grapefruits! Some of you sound like you have your own orchards!

Anyway, welcome. Glad you found us. I'm sure you will have lots of experience to share with us.

OK, I'll go buy postcards soon. ;)
We are hoping to go to San Antonio. Dh is a Marine and we are going recruiting, so our notice on where is short. But that is our request. :)

I've learned that hte best place to buy postcards in central Ohio is the airport in Columbus. So when I go for ANY reason, I stock up. I have a little stash in a drawer, handy for whenever anyone is asking. I was amazed at how difficult they are to get!

airport is a good place, so is your information place I forgot what you call them, but when you move to a new town you go there for information and you get a few map and stuff and they have tons and tons of postcards. Is it the chamber of commerce? I am sorry I drew a blank.

The best and cheapest place to buy postcards is Walmart. I guess since San Antonio is a tourist city its easier to find here but I had to ask cause they sort of hide them. HEB has them too sometimes. I would try book stores also and any historical places around you would have them too.

Truck stops off the Interstates are another good place to find them.

Beth if you go to San Antonio let us know! We live outside of SA but we come into San Antonio once or sometimes twice a week I can hook you up with homeschool groups, coops and even organic stuff I am part of a raw milk coop here too we get our milk locally from a really nice farm that is certified.

Thanks again for all the warm welcomes its made me feel at home.

    Nope.
Walmart here, does not have them.....

I have been to three walmart stores in the SouthWest Houston area and no postcards! (This is a very international area of town, and you would think that I would not be the only person wanting to send postcards to friends or family abroad....)

And you can actually call the Walgreens stores and CVS stores near me and see for yourself, no post cards and not even MAPS! For a drug store? That is sooo weird.

I finally found th postcards at a Walgreens, but I nearly gave up.... 5 stores and finally finding them? I began to think it was just me! hahaha!

This final store was the only store that did not look at me side-ways for asking for post cards. The other stores reacted like, "Why would you want to send postcards, just call them!"<< Kind of an attitude... sigh...

Anyway, I plan to go to the Chamber of Commerce, here in town today or tomorrow.... that will work!

I've also found them at Hallmarks, but that will depend on the individual store.

I tell you what was hard to find and that was a postcard of our capital. I finally had to wait for someone in Austin to join to send us a capital postcard hahaha in my own state!

The map cards are really popular along with state capitals from any state. The funny ones too I have a guy riding a jacket rabbit that the boys love, they love all the rodeo stuff too.

Just wanted to jump on here and welcome you to HSpot.

I am Kim, a full-time RVer. We travel around the US in our RV. Have been HSing for 4 years now.

The post card thing sounds neat. I haven't looked at the web page yet, but I will as I get post cards from wherever we go.

Anyway, glad to have you here.

I will let you know for sure! I'd be very interested in organic co-ops, I really would like to switch to mostly organic stuff, but it is hard to find here.

So boy were you right about being popular with the postcard swap!! My email was jam packed!

I thought I posted here yesterday but don't see my post! Welcome to the board!
I'm DaLynn and my boys are almost 8, almost 4, and the little one is 2 1/2. We've been HSing since june and love it, though we're still getting used to it.

We've ,just moved to Austin from near Waco and will be moving to San Antonio area soon as well - whereabouts are you? We'll be moving probably northwest and/or the New Braunfels general area as that's where the first store of dh's will be built. (Well, they're not HIS stores - he'll be over the bakery half of the bakery-cafes.)

Will go check out your site soon - i'm a frugal scrapbooker! ;-) TTYS

    Lots of Texans

Wow I am surprised of the amount of Texans here and soon to be San Antonians. In my last forum there was only one girl from SA and she never wanted to meet or visit our farm.

Y'all are all welcome to come down to our farm in the spring. I say spring cause it looks like a haunted forest right now hehe not very pretty. By then we should hopefully have our garden in place at least and I finally can order my chicks and leaves will be back on my pecan trees.

I shop and socialize on the NW part of San Antonio thats where one of my homeschool group is "Haven" though they may be disbanding since the owners boys have all graduated and are in college now.

NW part of SA is really growing it extends to HWy 90 towards Castroville and Hondo South West thats about in the area where I live so if you do a google you can find it. Its mostly farm area that way with lots of canals.

Y'all will like San Antonio we are very cultured and have everything near by. The hill country is just a few miles out, the river we go too is really nice Christian camp and its soooo cold they have over 100 underground springs. There is Fiesta Texas and Sea World which both have Home School Days. The ocean is about 2-3 hrs drive. Houston is about the same distance with the ocean and they have a Home School Space Center day at the Space center infact its this coming Friday!

We have a Home School store/coop that caters to Homeschoolers, they have a huge Fair each May too This is sooo exciting to find so many here from my area I am tickled.

I have never heard of them before though I think I have seen the name at the local May curriculum fair. Yes it seems they are located here in San Antonio. Wow that is cool when you see something like that in your home city.

I usually find something in their catalog at Christmas for my son. We've ordered him swords and shields, and all that "guy" stuff, lol!

Hey Ranchermom/Sam!! Welcome!! You will love it here I am sure - everyone is very nice.

I too am in Texas. Spring Texas just north of Houston.

We were in San Antonio a few months ago to visit the Alamo for a Texas history fieldtrip. We are going on another fieldtrip in two weeks to Washington on the Brazos State Park for their Texas Independance Day celebration.

I'll have to let you know next time we get out that way. I'd love to see your place. And everyone here is welcome to come take picture in our bluebonnets at our place in Brenham this spring!
