It's not hard to boycott companies-if you're amish.

However, if ther are local comapnies that support things you don't it's really not that hard to not shop there. And when it comes down to it-non-corporate doesn't get shopped enough as it is (I know the "mom and pop" shops around me are closing like crazy, and wal-mart is moving in downtown.)

Now that is almost worse than a company supporting gay pride...I just may stop shopping at wal-mart again. I do shop there once in a blue moon...but I may stop that also.

Well...you can't boycott everything...but you should try and be careful on where your money goes if you believe your money is God's money. However, even that is a moot point if you don't tithe. lol. I mean if you don't tithe, don't even consider boycotting. lol.

I mean that it's easy to boycott in the name of your conviction or in the name of God being in charge of your money....yet the Bible does not tell us to boycott but it does tell us to tithe. So, it's far more important to tithe your money then worry about boycotting some company. I have known some to stand on the conviction of never giving money to Disney yet did not tithe. How can you say "it's God's money" so I won't use it to buy Disney yet you don't bother to tithe for the same reasons. It's far better to tithe and buy a Disney shirt than to boycott the shirt and not tithe.

Got it! Thanks for the clarification.

I have a friend who doesn't tithe because she feels that God doesn't need her money.

God doesn't need her money...she is right. Tithing is an act of worship.

If you want to be blunt, God doesn't need a dang thing from us. But He expects a lot from us.

Consider this: We don't actually need our children to clean their rooms, help with household chores, or even learn anything in school. We don't need it. But they do! Same thing with serving our Heavenly Father.

Yes and no. If you follow the letter of the OT law (where it is prescribed), you should tithe over 50% of your income. If you follow the teaching of Jesus, then even a mite is enough, depending on your circumstance. We learned years ago that it's OK to give less when you're young and struggling because there will be times later in life when you can give much more.

Honestly, though, I don't see what this has to do with boycotting versus not boycotting.

I never said how much one should tithe. You can give how you feel led. That isn't my business.

I do believe it is related on how we spend our money. Many have said they will not shop somewhere based on religious conviction. Which basically means you want to glorify God with your money. My point was that one needs to glorify God with their money in all areas. really, I was just thinking of someone I know that does not tithe yet wants in on how the church spends money or who is known for not spending money at establishments that support causes in conflict with the Bible. That entered my mind as I was reading the thread...and I thought how silly it is to worry about spending a dime at Home Depot if you don't tithe. It's inconsistent. So, in my mind, if you want to glorify God with your money, be sure to tithe and forget about who to boycott or who not too. Does that make sense? maybe I just have too many thoughts going on at once.

I am not saying that if you tithe you should also boycott or if you tithe you should not boycott. basically, if you want to glorify God with finances be sure to give back to God first before worrying about how to boycott.

I suppose the comment was a bit out of place but not completely irrelevant.

I believe that a tithe is 10%. I believe that is what God "requires" of you, but you are free to give as much or as little as you wish. But I also believe that by NOT tithing, we are limiting God's ability to bless us. In Malachi 3:6-12, God is accusing the people of "robbing" Him when they don't bring in the complete tithe. It is one of the few places where God actually tells people to "test" him! No matter how big or little we have, God expects a tithe of it.
