I just wanted to say...it's nice to see such a personal discussion being made with great respect. I've hit a few other forums online - not homeschooling ones, per se - where folks who disagree manage to disintigrate a conversation into implied insults, personal attacks, and childish namecalling. I'm new to the forum, just stumbled in (and likely to be quite vocal), but I can tell this will be a forum I'll enjoy.

We are delaying vaccinating our 4th; our first 3 received typical shots up until the point that we stopped. Near the end of the fourth pregnancy, I did a quick study - read two books - on the subject and decided not to vaccinate. But I need to do a more thorough reading and have a better understanding, since at present I do not feel competant enough to discuss it.

That said, knowing that vaccines don't always prevent everyone at all times, I found myself noticing the author didn't gleefully point out that none of the infected kids had been vaccinated - and wondering how many, if any, were?

Just to be clear, JW's do not have any religious objections to vaccinations. If a JW declines a vaccination it is a personal matter just like everyone else.

My daughter has had all of the first year vaccinations. I have declined the live vaccinations until I can decide if I feel they are safe. I am also interested in Dr. Sears' new vaccination schedule.

I was actually talking to my neighbor who lived for some time in an area of Columbus that is known for all the "green" folk that live there. Big into organics, food co-ops, health food, etc. She says that "those" are the people who are more "against" vaccinating than any homeschool group, because they want everything "natural" and don't believe in putting anything "unnatural" into their bodies. Of course, that is ALSO talking generalizations!

Yes, it can be a generalization for sure, but it also tends to be true in most cases.

For me, the only natural thing I did was not vaccinate, but I did not do it to be natural per-say. I did it cause I did not want to put those poisons in my children's veins. I am not trying to be mean to anyone if they vaccinate, I am just being honest about my reasons. We all do what we feel is right. And I am not your judge.

All the natural and organic stuff came a while later. When my dd was 1 is when I started to slowly look into other things. When she was 2 and ds was an infant is when I really got into it.

My sister and I started a business with making soap and stuff. As we researched one thing led to another and thus began my natural eating and living habits.

7 years and strong eating and living as natural as can be. I would not call myself a hippie though. :p

I also have several very natural friends that until they met me did vaccinate and some still do.

But all in all the generalization can be more than true in most cases.

I have been a non-vaxer and vaccine researcher for almost 12 years, but only been eating and living organically and naturally for 7. :)

We chose not to vaccinate because of the ingredients in the shots. I believe more people would vaccinate and that doctors would have to spend less time 'convincing' parents to vaccinate if they would make them differently. I don't understand why some ingredients are ok for kids' shots but not ok for animals' shots. Just my opinion, I know they are many different views and beliefs.
