Wait Teacher Mom, I don't think we're all done yet!!! :D

I think we all agree that we hope this would never happen!!! It's easy NOW to say I would just choose another option, but if it did come to the point where hsing was not allowed, then I'm guessing there wouldn't be many other options to turn to! Freedom to choose what and where to school would be drastically limited if it came to this point! The government would be saying, "My way, or the highway[jail or fines or whatever they decide])!" By that time, I think it would be ps or penalty of some sort!"

This is all speculation on all our parts, because we can't see the future. But I think it's good to have ideas of what you would do in a time like that, should it happen, so that it won't be so hard to decide at that time.

For those that are hsing for secular reasons, I think I'd make the same choices that you are, because though there may be moral reasons of some sort to work out, there would be no religious reaasons for you to stand up for hsing, so it just makes sense.

But since I feel God gave my children to me to raise and nurture for Him, I agree with others that for ME, I need to do whatever God leads me to do, which may mean standing up for hsing them, and not giving them over to the government to raise. Which, btw, has happened, and is happening, in other countries, so could very well happen here!

I hope and pray we never face a government that would mandate ps for every child.

On hslda's site just a short while ago, there was an article on the UN talking of passing some kind of universal law that would prohibit hsing. And there was another article about some legislature about 'child rights' that would mandate the education every child has a 'right' to receive--this would also mandate no religious upbringing. I initially shrugged it off as nonsense....after all, this is AMERICA!!!!! Don't they remember the founding of America?? Doesn't our currency state, "In God We Trust"? After 9/11, didn't every billboard say, "We're praying for America"?
The thought of not being able to hs my children was a horror to me. Can they take away our choice?
I pray it never comes down to that. I continue to feel blessed and be thankful to live in a free country. Blessed that I have never known true poverty or true hunger. Blessed to be able to worship my God however I see fit. Thankful have the choice to educate my children at home. Immeasurably grateful to those who died to give me that freedom. I am thankful that you enjoy that freedom, too. If that were ever taken away, what a mournful day that would be. I pray that day never comes.

I saw that case on the news. Its sad and has to be hard on the parents. I think a 16 I would trust and fully listen to my sons opinion on what he wanted to do.

Which the parents are doing. It's the courts who are interfering. For me, it's especially close to home because my mother has also refused "life-saving" chemo. The same doctor who last year told her another round of chemo would probably kill her wanted to put her in the hospital for five days straight, giving her chemo around the clock!!! Who says that the doctors can't take my dad to court and force the same thing on Mom?

I just read the artcile about the teen in VA. Well the same thing happen here to a 13 year old last year. She didn't want chemo. she wanted to do other things. Her mother and her ran and the cops caught up with them took her away and put the child in the hosiptal and the parents were not allowed to see her or talk to her until all the treatments were done. They went to court and finally got the girl back. But, all her treatments were done.
I don't understand. But, then again maybe it's for the best I don't.

Yeah I've been reading that article too.. it's scary that CPS can just get the government custody so easily.

hey I want to encourage you all, there are some awesome CPS peoples out there, some are even Christians and PAstors working that as a side job!
Found this out to be true this week when a friends had a potential problem- non homeschooling problem- it all worked out good in the end and they made some new Christian friends!

Jackie, My mom can't take Chemo, but they are going to try to zap her tumor. They think it may help reduce her pain... but i think its just apeasing her.
She has gone down hill again , have not chatted with her this week yet to get update, but she was on every day for a while! ( online that is)
I don't think the doctors can force you to do it, but I am kind of fearful that there are folks who have to!
I know with both our moms it would shorten thier imune systems but yikes, a sixteen yr old would be hard to figure out. I think I would side with the kid...

My mom, fortunately, isn't dealing with pain. If she was, she might change her mind. Right now, she has no symptoms. She went to a Cancer Hospital (which her doctor REFUSED to refer her to!) and spoke to a specialist dealing with lymphoma. This doctor says, because of the lack of symptoms, this latest bit of cancer may only be scar tissue on the lungs from previous bouts of pnemonia!!! Regardless, right now Mom would rather have a shorter life where she can enjoy herself until the end, rather than a longer one where she's sick constantly. I'm praying for your mom!

My uncle has a brain tumor. They started chemo. and he got so sick that he asked to stop the chemo. treatments. He said the same thing: that he'd rather enjoy the life he has until the end, rather than be sick for a longer period of time! THey weren't even sure that the chemo would help him anyway.

BTW, he's going downhill fast right now. :( BUT, he is not in pain, and that's what he and his family wanted!

I wish my mom was not in pain, last week when we spoke on the phone she told me she hurt in all of the bones in her body. But she too is still trying to enjoy life as much as possible.. still trying to keep doing house work, which is bazzare to me but hey if she enjoys it! Praise the Lord!
thanks for the prayers for her!

It's been in the 90's at least, maybe close to 100 the past few days. We lost our phone yesterday because things heated up too much. The power has stayed on in our area, hopefully in hers also! I haven't heard of any major power outages in our area or Seattle or Tacoma.

I'll pray for your mom and the power! God can sure work that one out for her! :)

This is just strange for this area! Usually July here is cooler. Sometimes in August and September we can get in the 80's and low 90's, but not for this long of a time usually! Which is one thing I like about this area---I DON'T like too hot of weather!

    What did your mom say?

I have to wait till after 8 to call her when my sis is gone to work, she is too stressed about getting her boys off to thier sports or day care to answer and hand phone so I wait to make it easier for her ( Im such a NICE sister Lol) I am hoping she is okay, my sis is not online and they usually would be at this time of day. prayers are good!
We had 115 here this weekend! Today its supposed to be less only 105, that is what it was like the year my mom's lungs went bad.
I knew we would get hot summer because winter was way long and snowy here in california!
I will let you know what I hear from mom.
    Be blessed not stressed!

I'm wondering if the alternative therapy is helping the boy?

My BIL's mother just died on the 13th from cancer, and she refused to go to the hospital. She wanted to die at home and she did.

my mom is sounding up enough that she is plannign to attend my nephews T ball game, if its cool enough I think its one day this week.
Not sure if she said that for his benifit or what though because she was still having other problems that she was teling me about. For the most part she 'sounds' good today.

One of the articles I saw said that the bot felt way better, but tests shows he was actually not improving. So he felt good but was still dying. :( I guess with the Chemo he will feel bad and likely still be dying.
