I hate the View. My mother watches it and tells me all about it. If not for her I would be clueless...I really wish I was clueless to this show. lol.

I bet Joy and the show receive a lot of email about her comment.

This is what I e-mailed to the view...

"Perhaps Ms. Behar intended her insensitive, uninformed and derogatory remark about “demented” homeschoolers to be humorous, but insulting the approximately two million American homeschooled children on national TV should not pass for comedy. She owes us an apology."

I hate that show and could care less about what some of their oppinions about homeschooling are. I know that what I'm doing is not causing my children to become "demented". And the only one I need to worry about pleasing is God. So with that being said, I'm not wasting my time on them.

Well, i would never waste my time to watch the show, but I believe it is our responsibility as Homeschoolers to respond to such crap with an educated reply. Thanks for the link to comment, i was disappointed that it only allowed me to post a comment with 250 characters, that obviously means they really dont care why we feel like we do, or they would let us finish a thought. anyway im glad you girls seem to care what she is portraying as an educated opinion. we may not care how she feels, but im sure she makes an impression on some young moms, who now feel like hs their dc would be detremental to their health!

I felt the same way...think I fussed at the computer a try or two also. :)
I completely agree, as far as if Joy thinks my family is demented I could care less. But you never know if there was even 1 mom sitting at home watching that who may have been toying with the idea of homeschooling...then she hears that and decides that she wont.
Plus, the general public heres that and automatically thinks she knows what she's saying...so their stereotypes and ANY progress that we've made automatically flies out the window!

Next time someone argues that "Liberal" = "Tolerance", send them THAT clip.

Well both Liberals and Conservatives are intolerant in some ways because they try to force personal ideologies on everyone. Libertarians are probably the most tolerant party because they don't care what you do as long as it doesn't involve them. Homeschooling included; actually home school and private schools are their preferred means of educating children.

In our neck of the woods conservatives are publicly equated with intolerant religious nuts.
Whereas Liberals are equated with earth loving free giving tolerant of everything people...
    Thus my comment.

It's the same where I live, I was just pointing out that the stereotype doesn't represent reality.

It depends on how you define tolerant. I don't really care what others do as long as they are not harming/involuntarily involving others, so I'm very tolerant of many things.

Could you give some examples, if you don't mind, of some of things you are not tolerant of, which would actually fall into the category of "harming/involuntarily involving others"?

(I'm asking this, because this board typically is a fairly safe place to probe eachother's thought processes--not that I have anything to question you about personally. IRL, it seems to me that the people who hold "Tolerance" as one of the highest virtues actually tend to be stridently intolerant of those who don't adhere to their definition of tolerance. Again--please don't think that this is about you, and you don't have to respond, if you don't care to.)

People, even those--possibly, especially those!--who perceive themselves as more tolerant that others, are so ready to point out how intolerable the intolerant are, thereby flaunting their own intolerance of them.

Such is life and we all do it.

As far as people are concerned, chronic welfare recipients tend to be annoying to me. Also, people who emulate gang culture. I'm fine with gay/lesbian couples, all races and all income levels(so long as you are supporting yourself and children). I don't really care to say much more than that.

    Yes, we all have intolerance.

But, in the original point of this post, Joy's name calling... THAT type of intolerance, is so caustic to the peace of any society.

One could argue that comments, such as her are a sign of social immaturity.

That's quite alright, User! I think that ALL people are prejudice in one way or another. But I know that ANY group has both "good" and "bad", so while I have difficulty with this group on a whole, I do try to give individuals I meet that belong to it a chance.

The bolded sums up my opinion of Joy Behar nicely. She seems very immature to me.
