Well, we had a our family "meeting". It went well overall. I am happy with the way things went. I just really need to learn to be submissive to dh. He was willing to compromise on some things, of course, but I still have the tendency to want to "trump" him. And I know that is wrong of me. He is just much more structured by nature and I am not...so...needless to say we sometimes struggle with certain areas with the kids. But don't get me wrong...we have a great marriage and I think he is the greatest thing ever!!

So about the hsing. We did as Deena suggested and told the kids that as much as we want the kids to be home, they are going to have to put forth more of an effort in their schoolwork. We pretty much agreed that if thing have not changed by the end of our school year, we will most likely be putting them back in school. We discussed putting up a schedule and the importance of being responsible in keeping that schedule. We reviewed all the blessings of being able to hs and compared it to what it could be at ps. Both the kids responded pretty well and I think (hope) are going to take this seriously and be more initiative in their studies with my help.

Please pray that we can "get it together" and that dh would begin to see hsing in a new light. That is doesn't HAVE to be "school at home" to learn anything. I respect the fact that he wants things to be more structured, but I think there can be a meeting point...we just need to find it, you know? But even doing the "school at home" stradegy is better than actually going to school!

    http://www.donnayoung.org/english/abc.htm
not sure if the person pasted it here or where but this donnayoung site is amazing! It has everything for extra worksheets! I just printed a dozen for ds and dd! Just for time fillers
I will keep dh and you in prayers as well as the kids so they can keep up with the program.
I know my kids take advantage of my slack days and with the shoulder they have been many this year ( 2007) SO i am grateful to God that my hubby called ds on it and me as well this week because I too am less structured than hubby, but it seems to me that I work well with both ways yet kids don't always. I can see where I have allowed mine to get out of hand and even get saucy this year, I can blame it on my lack of concentration with pain and meds even but I know I just didn't want to deal with it because I was feeling lazy.
Now that I have gotten my cute little shedule up and been seeking out all these WONDERFUL Links you all have been sending us I am on fire for school! haha!
    Only way to explain it!
I even found art on the donna site! my kids love drawing thier own comic books up, so I printed up some worksheets to do that for some of that extra time creative writing/art!
I know the time they spend learning, and working can fly by or go slow depending on thier attitudes so in order to keep the fun in the learning process I chose exciting looking worksheets to print and will visit the site often , maybe weekly or bi-weekly to gather more!
next I will provide a location for my worksheet file ( expandable folder thing) that they can get to it easily and not have a problem finding the work they chose to do.
I am so excited I wish tomorrow was not a holiday!
We are spending it picking up dd in Pismo beach , going to the butterfly groves! I wish ds15 didnt have his camera at youth winter camp this weekend because I wont have digital pics!
    rats and all that!
but I will share with you al how wonderful it was!

Leslie, my dear friend, I don't know where I have been and how I missed this. Wow! I hope and pray everything works out for you all. I understand where you are coming from I think we all have those days.
My dh is very support has never said anything to me. He does like to see the work the children do, and they love showing and sharing with them at dinner time. Have you thought of doing that with daddy and the kids. They seem like they are more invovled with the children then.
I hope and pray the best work out for you and your family Lesile. Hang in there.

I really don't want your kids to go back to ps either, cuz then you'll work more, and wouldn't be here, and that just wouldn't be right!

Soooo, I am praying that this will definitely work out for you, and that God will open your dh's eyes to the wonders of homeschooling!!!

Hold on now....I am not leaving!! LOL

Actually Kris, I meant to tell you that I am taking your idea of showing dad all our work we did today for Presidents Day. We are going to have dinner, then have the kids show him their work. We'll see how that goes. I don't know why I hadn't thought of that before....He always asks how our day was, but he never looks at the work (well, occasionally). Thanks!

Leslie, if you're still on the forum, I just copied what I consider to be an "awesome" vignette about Washington, back on the "Presidents' quotes" thread. Maybe your husband will enjoy that.
    Praying...

    Leslie,

We set written work at Daddy's place at the table. That's where he asked the mail to be put, so we started putting the kids work there also. That way he sees what they have been doing every day. They like hearing his comments, and he likes seeing what they're doing, so it works out well! It also encourages the kids to do well and finish things if they know Daddy will be looking at it! :)

yeah...I think that is what we need to start doing, Deena. We did have some work from today out for him tonight and he enjoyed looking it over and quizzing the kids on it. The kids did GREAT at answering his questions.....phew!! LOL I can see how that would be an incentive for the kids, too. They liked showing dad everything they worked on.

(Thanks, Kris, for bringing that to my attention)

Prairie, I am on and I will go over to the other thread and look at it. Thanks!

You all are the best and I appreciate your encouragement tremendously!
