I am not sure how exactly, I have a bad back as it is, and have not been good at taking care of it properly. But it is bad enough that I had to get an injection of Toradol (pain med) and am in physical therapy. It is imperative that I consistently do my back exercises every day for the rest of my life. The problem is...I hate to exercise...so I put it off, then I get myself in trouble. This time, I really did it!!!

Would you all pray for me? That my back will heal quickly and that I would stop being so stubborn and take care of myself!!! I know I have the power to control this problem...I don't know why I let it go.

    Thanks.

Leslie, I'm so sorry your back pain got so bad! I certainly will pray for you---that the pain will soon be relieved, and that God puts it in your heart to exercise in a way that will benefit your back!

I know what you mean about not wanting to exercise! I KNOW I need to, but have such a hard time doing it! Plus I have a little stubborn streak where if I feel someone is MAKING or FORCING me to do something, then I DON'T want to do it! Even if I would have done it on my own, I won't, because they told me to do it! That's something I am praying about! ;) Maybe with your back messed up right now it will remind you why you so need to do those exercises----not for anyone else, but for you! And you're a special person!!! :)

Take care Leslie, hope you're better soon!

The best thing you can do is excercise! The first time my husband put his back out he went to bed and hurt for over 2 weeks. He has since put it out a few times and learned to get out and walk if nothing else.

That is so true, Jennifer. But right now my doctor and physical therapist have me on very limited activity, but does include specific exercises. I have a problem in my SI joint. Which is kind of, almost in my...uh...rump! LOL the SI joint along with my tailbone somehow got all out of alignment and the muscle spasms go all the way up my back.

    Thanks for thinking of me!

Can a chiropractor help with everything being out of alignment?

actually, because of the nature of my back history, my docs don't want me seeing a chirpractor. Physical therapy usually takes care of it ( this is only the 2nd time in 17 years that I hurt it bad enough for physical therapy, btw). It really is all about getting me lined up, then strengthening my muscles to hold it there. I just have incredibly weak muscle around my back and abdomen and SHOULD be working extra hard to take care of it.

Well, the doctors should know what they're talking about! I've just heard so many people say that chiropractors help them. I've never been to one myself, and I also know that some people over-use them for any little thing! I take it the exercises are to help strengthen your muscles. Then it would be very wise for you to do them. Will be praying for you!

Actually, at least around here, the doctors and chiropractors don't like each other very well. They both claim they can do way more than the other! So not many doctors would tell you to go to a chiropractor, and vice versa. It might be something that you ask a chiropractor about, to see whether they could help, and what their method would be if they did. Physical Therapy is good though. As long as they don't just assign drugs for you to take, I feel it's more positive for prevention than for just covering up the symptoms!

    We'll keep praying!

Physical therapists actually can't prescribe medicine of any kind. And I am not big on medicine, anyway. :) I had to have a spinal fusion 17 years ago, so there are many reasons why a chiropractor is not best for me. They work with adjusting by pushing or "forcing", sort of. Phys. therapists work with adjusting you through careful stretching and strengthening. At least that has been my experience. They deal with muscle and treating swollen muscle and tissue through heat/ice therapy. (I am getting the ice.....brrrrr....but it really helps!)

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts and prayers!

I wish this hadn't happened to you, Leslie! Did it just suddenly become painful? Does your MD have valid-sounding reasons for cautioning you about a chiropractor? Sometimes a rotation between a hot pack & a cold pack helps relieve a muscle spasm. We'll be praying for wisdom for your doctors & also for the will to do what you need to.

At the same time, you are to be congratulated for taking such good care of yourself that this has only happened twice in 17 years! Don't be discouraged. You have a wonderful family, & they'll do their part to help, too.

I did it again! I replied to the first page without seeing the second; so you have already answered the Q. about chiropractors, & you already mentioned the hot/cold treatment. It's also relaxing to have someone gently rub the back muscles after the heat cycle. Praying for a good night's sleep for you!

I feel your prayers!! I had a pretty good day today. I was a little worried about today because I had to drive to Indianapolis to deliver gifts tht we bought for a couple in need. It is about an hour drive for us and sitting is not an easy thing for me right now. But I did great and didn't have any muscle spasms while driving! YEAH! So thank you all so much! You are all the best!

I go tomorrow morning for another PT appointment. I am anxious to tell her my progress since Monday!
