I see cult, definately. Reformed education. Mindless droning of brainwashing (IMO). Chanting, Okay. Chanting about being an excellent scholor, WONDERFUL! But basing your success on a president that doesn't really care about America, doesn't have her good interests at heart? Really? Thank God in heaven I am able to homeschool, b/c if my kid, if YOUR kid were doing this in school you know there would be nothing done about it. And yea, I did notice it was all African-American. It's great that America has progressed to electing an African American President, if only he actually cared about what he was doing or cared about the American people.

I'm all for teaching kids positive thinking and motivation but what does Obama have to do with those kids not doing drugs or resorting to violence or becoming a doctor? It's quite obvious to me that Obama has no clue about education or he could have come up with something better than RTTT for incentive. RTTT is no better than NCLB....

But it did make me think of a funny bumper sticker I saw over the weekend: (forgive the language)
    One
    Bad
    Ass
    Mistake
    America

"Obama Scholar"? That's a little disturbing. Why can't they just be scholars? Ugh, the more education related news I read, the more determined I am to make homeschooling work for us. I wish my high school aged son wanted to homeschool too.

    Sickens me. Just sickens me.

My nephew (13) thinks Obama is the greatest man alive. My dd asked him, "What has he done?" He didn't know. She said, "you only think that because you are taught to think that."

My nephew is african american. Surprised? These young men are being taught to look up to Obama based solely on his race. There are plenty of african american men who should be honored based on merit. Oh...and NONE of them should be chanted about.

Personally, I would NOT allow my child to say it. They would just have to take the hit. My kids would be willing to also. Just like I'm willing to take the hit gladly so those who voted for Obama will realize the change he brings isn't the change we need.

Sorry..I'm in a bit of a bad mood to begin with.

What is this group? Is it in a public school, or what exactly is it? Even if we assume that this is a private thing happening, it's so strange that they would tie Obama in. These young men owe none of their success - or failure to Obama. It's time we teach our kids that those mountains of adversity can indeed be overcome - but not because they move out of our way - but because we become strong enough to conquer them. Those achievements are what give us self confidence. This seems like it's teaching arrogance.

Since when does the educational success of a child depend on the ethnic ancestry of the leader of said country?
What did Obama's ancestry ever do to educate anyone?
As far as I can tell, His ancestry didn't even manage to educate him all that well. Remember "57 states"?

I remember hearing -- years ago -- a similar group reciting something similar, in a similar fashion, but the emphasis was "I am Somebody!" Maybe the guy leading this group was one of those in that group of young scholars....

Somehow, something comes together vaguely in my mind about Jesus teaching "faith as a mustard seed" and "say to the mountain, 'Be thou moved!'" And something else about "if the mountain won't come to Mohammed...".

Not my son. He's African American and he thinks Obama is a big let down. I never supported him but my son did. Not because he was African American but because he thought he would do a good job. Before Hilary dropped out he was for her over Obama, so he was his second choice. Yesterday my son pointed out that Obama has done very little since he’s been in office and he really thought and hoped that he would do better. He said he just made it hard for other African Americans like him who someday want to possibly become president. He may be a little off on that part but he is only 10.

    ...

Theres no context for it, so I dont want to jump to conclusions but, I dont understand the value of the Obama part?

Admittedly, I'm very behind in current events and such but, I am very weary of any "Official" based Education anyway. (By official, I just mean Someone, somewhere, holding office of anything.)

Its great that many people have a MODERN leader in the spot light that the can aspire to be like. Its nice that African American children can look and see that, perhaps, if they too work hard, they can achieve great things on a large scale and be successful at something besides being a statistic for drop out rates and prison gangs

After all, Hitler was known for brilliantly capturing the hearts and minds of YOUNG Germany so that he had the country exactly where he wanted it when he began get evil. By the time people realized where they were, it was too late.

African American children have always had good examples to draw from. Sadly, most are confined to black history month and not taught in the regular school year...at least that was my school experience. In fact, there were many black leaders and examples I didn't even know about growing up. I think we should do away with "months" honoring different races or genders, if that means excluding them from the regular history year. Just proves things are separate but equal..ya know?

well, that has nothing to do with anything.

I would be just as ticked if the kids were chanting any name. It conflicts with my worldview...so I cannot see it as positive. That's just me.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with this. The kids need positive black role models and Obama is one of them - regardless of how evil I think he is. ;) I wish they would say I'm a Chris Gardner Scholar (From Pursuit of Happyness) - because that guy is one heck of a positive role model for young black men, but whatever.
