I don't think that bothers me. The reality is that we HAVE "given up" a lot for our family. And the reality is that our priorities are different from a lot of non-homeschooling people. (Now, please don't get me wrong!!! There are plenty of non-homeschoolers that are GREAT family people! We ALL know many of those folk, so please don't think I'm saying how all non-homeschoolers have screwed up priorities, because I'm NOT!!!) Our society teaches that we "need" all kinds of things...money, nice house/car/clothes, a good job, time "to ourselves", etc. Most of us have given up those things, because we feel that our children/families are more important. It's something we are WILLING to give up, because we know what, to us is TRUELY important. And I wouldn't hesitate to point it out to someone who said that to me. "Yes, maybe I have given up a lot, but look at all I have gained in return. I think the trade-off is well worth it...."

mmm, thats good though food! Thanks Jackie! THe person who said that to me has recently left the family so I doubt I will see them again... long story wont go into it, but thats good thought food!
ANd you re right I thought on it when she said it, but prior to that I did not realise I had given anything up I just thought "This is my lot in life its what I do", after this conversation I realised that I had given a lot of my personal dreams up , not only for home teaching but for dh's dreams, for the kids dreams, hopes and desires.. but after all isn't that what parenting is all about?
We give up a little portion of our own selfishness to provide life for our children.
