My dh and I were talking and I was wondering what will I do for a job once my 'job' of teaching my kids is finished in a couple years here?

What do you think you will do?
Will there be life after home teaching?

This is at the forefront of my mind quite often as my kids get older. I already have my paraprofessional certification (teacher's aide), and I now have my food service manager certification....I've been a veterinary assistant, bank teller, sales clerk and data entry, not to mention ad designer, and dog trainer in my adult life. None of which are calling my name for a permanent career. I'm actually thinking of going into nursing just to get a quick license and good pay. If I was younger and was able to move to a college town, I'd probably become a pharmacist; however, my dream would be to have a pottery studio. Can you tell I have a hard time committing???

I don't know yet. God hasn't told me what I'm going to be when I grow up.

I know that I'm on the right path, though. Getting my Master's in Theatre is a step toward whatever it is.

I would love to get a job working with inner city or handicapped children, but I doubt I would ever want to return to formal teaching.

Amie, some of us NEVER grow up.... :D

    Sleep!!!

No, seriously, I don't know. I'm hoping that I still have dreams and desires when they leave the nest! LOL :) I was hoping to stay connected to the homeschooling community some how, maybe teach classes at co-ops....or try to get certified as a day care worker and do kind of a preschooly daycare thing out of my home.

we'll see...I have so many years before I can think about that!!!!

    Krista you stole my answer...Sleep!!

I will probably be more involved in Church and probably still involved in our local homeschooling community. I doubt I will go back to "work" but who knows that is years away for us.

I've not quite finished homeschooling yet, but I've written a book about my experiences. It's in my tag line. I also write articles about homeschooling and parenting, I learned so much along the way that I want to share it with others. I think it's important not to wait until your children have left home and then suddenly say, "Now what will I do?" That's why I've started the writing while they are still here.

Babysit and then teach my grandchildren? Haha! Teach other peoples' kids?

Maybe help with my husband's business or find out if I'm good enough for a small photography career?

I have no idea. My boys are young still and the idea of adoption in the next few years is being talked about so that would extend my homeschooling career by a few years I hope. I suppose God will lead me wherever He wants me. I just don't know where that is yet.

Take a looonnnngggg vacation that doesn't require me turning something into a lesson. The reality of being done with homeschooling is shortly approaching me. I most likely will start my career with nutritional counseling. I have been studying for quite some time and thisclose to getting my certification.

I have many ideas what I would like to do or at least try to accomplish. However, my main goal is to make sure that Handsome and I enjoy our time together. I know this isn't a "job", but it is a priority.

I'd like to step up the writing, which I love doing. After that...lol I'll probably find myself doing things...for me!...field trips that are boooooring - oh wait, we do that anyway.

But I have a looong time to go; my youngest isn't even being schooled atm.

I'd like to go to school to be a pharmacy technician, or dare I dream? A pharmacist!
I like the medical field but am too quesy to be a nurse or hands-on assistant.

This is a bit off topic. :)

Our pharmacist owns a couple pharmacies. He was telling Handsome that if it wasn't for diabetics and asthmatics, he would have had to close his doors due to the economy. He has had a $600 a week drop in prescriptions because people aren't going to the doctors anymore. But when the economy is good, his job is fantastic. He is a friendly guy and as odd as it is, going to his pharmacy is like going to the old soda shops that had a pharmacy on the side. LOL He is a neat guy and loves to talk to his customers. This is probably why a lot of pharmacies have closed their doors and he is still open.

Like I said, a bit off topic. Anyways, I think being a pharmacist would be really neat.:D

Seriously, I'd love to convert a bedroom into a sewing room, and do some SERIOUS quilting! And I'd love to get a job working with handicapped children again, though probably not as a teacher. Maybe a consultant for parents who want to homeschool their handicapped child...?
