You guys crack me up! hahaha

I totally missed the half time show!
    waaahhhhh!
I was a MAJOR Prince fan, as a kid. I was 14 in 1884 when he was really popular. I found a new copy of Purple Rain VHS int he Half Priced Books Dollar rack and thought WHOOOO a STEAL! Hahhahaha! That's the best part of growing old; all your favorite stuff is in the discount bin! hahahahaha!

And yea, I posted this because it made me roll my eyes that writers from so-called "Educated" newspapers can act so "RedNeck" with their rediculous conspiracy theories... I mean, it's the superbowl and 'the Rock" has had that symbol forEVER, right? Geeesh!

Anyway, even at 14, I knew that Prince's music was MASSIVELY erotic, that's why I listened to it! hahahahahhahahaha!

    Oh, Hon,
When I was fourteen, I had one of those friends who was always wilder than her mother knew... the kind of girl who was sheltered too much, who rebelled big-time... anyway... she was the instigator in almost all things bad when I knew her...

She introduced me to the Windy and Lisa Song.. (Forgot the title..) Where they start the song saying each others names and then ask, "Is the water ready?"... DAYNG!

She would choreograph dances that we would perform (In our bedrooms acting silly of course, not in public) and lip sync to. I still remember practicing over and over, as if we were getting ready for some show. Weird.

And it wasn't until I was about 25 that I realized.....
Little red corvette was actually her Hoo Hooo!
"Trojans and some abused" Meant ahem.... profalactics!
That Wendy and Lisa were lovers.
And Niki was doing WHAT in the lobby of the hotel??!

It is amazing that even after repeating the lyrics over and over, that I never REALLY listened to them. I just knew they were hot and they made me hot. (Or so I thought) (My horizons were VERY narrow at the time)

What's funny is, now that I am older I am BESIDE MYSELF with disbeleif that my mom was soooo absent. I couldn't FATHOM my kid repeatedly listening to this.... (My mom was an absent mother.. long story) And I am the exact opposite... of course.. isn't that almost always the way?

But also, Princes music IS hot! hahaha!
    But not for kids.....
Just wish someone back then, would have had the brains to say something.

To those of you who do your best to prevent your kids from eating on this type of music... THANK YOU! You are great moms!

Is that the truth! That is also the scary side to music. I didn't even get what Micheal Jackson's Billie Jean was about until years later. lol.

    Shoot, hon...
I was listening to "King Diamond" in 1984. His album "Abigail"..... there's a story.... Satanic is one word to describe it.
But for me, at the time? It was just another song that I picked up from my friends.

I heard it again, not long ago, and was FLOORED, that I was 36 and JUST NOW realizing what I had been listening too. Geeeesh.. To say that I was unsupervised as a kid, is an understatement....

Anyway, it is true that your kids can say the words repeatedly, know exactly what the words are, and still not really "GET" it...

So again, to those of you who monitor what your children ingest... THANK YOU! You are fabulous moms, for it!

I wanted to add something I learned from a lady....

Things you surround yourself by can be compared and contrasted to things you smell:
Regardless of how awful something smells, if you are used to it, you will never smell it. However, if you remove yourself from the offending odor, when it comes your way again, it will take your breath away.
So, distance yourself from things that do not pass the sniff test.

I know that sounds silly, but it is true.
Now a days, when I come across something, like the Bratz dolls, for example, my face looks like I smelled something bad. Because I am not used to the ick factor of it all.

I hope to raise my kids to have a "Nose" for the finer things, as well, and therefore as they grow, they will naturally be driven away from th nasty things.

Ok, tell me I am not super goofy....

    You're not super goofy!!

Man the stuff I listened to when I was a kid was so not appropriate but I didn't realize that until I was older. My parents were the type that spoiled me and let me do pretty much whatever I wanted. One of the reasons I am fairly strict with my kids is because I want them to know I care. I always felt like my parents just didn't care enough to be strict.

I was listening to whatever my brother listened too (he is 11 years older) and I was watching slasher films at age 9. Now I am a huge horror movie fan but geesh!! 9!!! I would never allow that with my kids.

I always thought Price was sexy!! Not good looking really but that man just oozes sex appeal.

Jen, that is very wise. I sure hope you don't mind me using your example of stinky oder! lol. That really brings it home. Excellent way to put a fine point on this. I promise to give you credit! lol.

I also do not let my dds play with bratz dolls. It just never made sense to allow a doll called a derogatory name been seen as cool. I mean what is next Slutz? Like I would let my son play with the new GI Joe called Wife Beater.

That is too funny!!! Dd10 got a two of Bratz dolls a few years ago from some friends for her b-day. She hardly ever plays with them. What I don't like is the way they are dressed. They look like hookers in training.

I am 43 and feel VERY naieve(sp) after reading y'alls posts! To this day I wouldn't have realized the meaning behind some of those lyrics! I loved Simon and Garfunkel and it always bothered me that Bridge Over Troubled Waters was put in a bad light. Irregardless of what it meant, it messed up a song I liked.

I must say it took someone else to point out the meaning behind some lyrics. I guess you just take them for granted and if your mind is too young or pure maybe it doesn't invade you the same. I don't know.

I never heard the Bridge Over Troubled Waters had any other meaning. huh.

I know I had songs ruined for me also. I guess that is why I feel more comfortable just not listening to some things. lol.

Oh, lighten up ya bunch of grannies! Isn't it interesting to figure out what the lyrics really mean? I was just like most of you- allowed to see and listen to whatever. I was also a dunce, because I could never read into the lyrics. I had to hear a song many times before I could even understand the words to begin with!

Puff the Magic Dragon was ruined for me once I knew what they really meant. I LOVED the movie when I was a kid and it always made me sad in a good kind of way.

I will still always think of the National Anthem as patriotic though and nothing more.

I think you can put a different spin on a lot of songs if you want to but it doesn't mean the singer or writer intended it that way.

Tiffany, Puff the Magic Dragon IS NOT ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT KIDS GROWING UP!!! All that other stuff is just in the minds of some idiotic reporter looking for a story!!! And the National Anthem is nothing but a patriotic poem written to on his experience in Baltimore during the War of 1812! So please go back to enjoying Puff as the children's song it was meant to be!

Actually I would love for my kids to see the movie. Anyone know where I could find it. I remember when I was a kid that it came on like once a year or something. The Anthem will always be patriotic to me.
