so you coming back. I hope they let you bring the pets that would be sad if you couldn't. can't you put them in pet carriers....
I don't get on here much lately but have been following this thread wondering how things are going for you!
I got a kick out of this post! LOL I am not laughing at you, but your post sounds like something straight out of Kim Possible! I love Kim Possible. Handsome and I would sit with Ems and watch the shows because they were so original. I honestly thought nuclear fusion was something the writers of Kim Possible made up. I guess I just learned something new today!
Not meaning to distract from the thread (or to appear insensitive to the radiation issues going on), but nuclear fusion produces energy by fusing atoms together whereas fission produces energy by splitting atoms apart. All nuclear reactors today split large atoms apart. In the sun, however, energy is produced by fusing small atoms together. Years ago, while doing research, I attended a talk given by a world expert in nuclear fusion. The intriguing thing is that it requires incredibly high temperatures for fusion to occur. At those temperatures, there are no atoms - they are ions. How do you contain them? The only way is using a magnetic field. How do you do that? By using superconductors. How do you achieve superconductivity? By using the lowest temperatures - close to zero Kelvin. So, you have some of the highest temperatures achieved by humankind contained by some of the lowest temperatures we can achieve. My questions were all about maintaining that temperature gradient, and I seem to remember that few had really thought about it. Going back to the reactors in Japan, even if a cloud of radiation does move around the earth, it would be less intense than the cloud that circled the earth a few times after the Chernobyl accident. I flew through that cloud - it was in late April 1986 - and so did many other airline passengers. To my knowledge, it caused no ill effects. The real danger always lay within tens of miles of the reactor. It's no different here, and this reactor is quite different from the one at Chernobyl. Yes, there are people in the mainland US right now buying tablets to protect them from radiation, but that is a total scam.
I don't think she will get mad at me. But, she is leaving as I type this. Anyway she was going to base after she got pet records, she was packed and ready to go. So, everyone lets pass the pixie dust, thoughts or prayers her way. I know she has to be scared traveling with the kids, pets and no hubby. Poor thing.
ok That last I heard they still are in Japan. I will try to get some more news from her today and when I do I will post it. I know she has her hands full the poor thing.
I didn't realize she was actually in Japan. Please keep us informed as much as you can. Let her know our thoughts and prayers are with her.
I've flown into SFO before and I like the airport. Seems fairly easy to get into and out of and is fairly easy to get around in. I had no issues. It was reasonably priced when I flew into it. If you do fly into SFO, my dd lives not too far away and might be able to help if you need it. Sorry - guess I answered an old question. I wasn't on too much and missed some things. Wherever they are flying, I sure am praying for safety and a good flight and a peaceful time of it.
ok Ladies I got this pm today and wanted to pass it on to you all. keep thoses prayers, happy thoughts and pixie dust our way. forward to them that the first group leaves today for all over. I am set to go out in a few days - maybe.
Thanks for prayers, thoughts and pixie dust. After many hours of waiting and having stuff change every five to thirty minutes I am on HOLD again. Thankfully the Commanding Officer as okay the families of my community to bring their third pet. We are the only military housing in Japan that allows three pets. Everyone else is two. I will have to pay for the third pet. I am fine with that. My husband has gone for a ride and I don't know when he will be back or if I will be home when he does. He did say he may get to visit us but it's a big slight chance but if it happend awsome. everyone is getting groucy and the kids want to go. my oldest has been a life saver and has helped so much. the younger two just wanna leave. i am pet sitting and they are being flown out Wednesday. Their mama is stateside and was on vacation when it happened. we have been given iodine tablets but haven't used them yet. on my blog is alink about where our location is and what has happen. Ididn't write it but my friend has. sorry this is choppy but since the quake I haven't slept much. There are so many aftershocks and the ones under 100 miles really move us. We have all been sleeping in the living room together or our master bedroom.
