We built a fence because we got tired of looking at the tall weeds next door (appx 5' tall) and all the guys' garbage. Unfortunately, the guy is a councilmen so the rules do not apply to him as they would apply to other citizens. Hypocrites!
The reason our HOA has the rule is because it makes the neighborhood unsightly. So we can't use ANY outdoor thing to dry the clothes. I think I'll look at the racks and see if they have any we could use. The ones I see in the pictures look awfully small for larger (4 to 5 people, or more) families though! We have a lot of clothes, sheets, blankets, placemats, tablecloths...... Where do you guys hang everything?
It would be hard to hang sheets and blankets on an indoor rack. I don't hang socks and underwear out, simply because we have way too many of them. I only know one person who uses an indoor rack, and she uses it for things she doesn't want to dry. We are in a HOA, and I don't think we are supposed to have a clothesline. We do have one, but we hung it low (below the top of our fence), so that it can't be seen unless you are in our yard. We strung it between side of the house and the fence to keep the larger part of the backyard open. My neighbor has a retractable line. Would that be an option for some of you? Deena, you could use one of those in a basement!
You know this is an interesting topic title I was just thinking about it this last week when things started to go crazy out in the market. Hubby and I sat down talking about how we really need to start watching our spending if hard times are coming and if not then we are better off later on when the USA bounces back. One of the main things I am doing right now is just trying to organize myself to save money. Organize not only the house too but my grocery list and our homeschooling and my recipe box etc... I am going to make a list on my blogger of things I need to check on in the morning when I get up every day to try to save..like reading my dollar stretcher more often...hitting my coupon sites...sending away for more freebies. Kids and I are up early right now we are going to get an early start. Sam
Pam--we don't have a basement! My dh doesn't trust basements in this neck of the woods since it's damp/wet so much! We know MANY people around here who have almost constant problems with leaking and stuff in their basements in the fall and winter. Soooo, that one's out too. I think I need to look into coupons and lower the heat level (wear sweaters and jackets) over the winter as two things I CAN do!
I would love a basement. Around here basements are extremely rare. A couple of the really old houses along the tracks have old cellars but that is it.
I have a huge basement. We could invent the Basement Swap for 2 weeks game. But I'm sure you wouldn't trade ... for the winters here.
We have a huge basement, too. Dh just hung up a clothes line down there. I did 4 loads of clothes, hung them up (it took overnight to damp dry) and then dried them this AM. It took all of 40 minutes to finish drying all of them in the dryer - 4 loads. It would have taken 4 hours to dry them. Can't wait for my electric bill to see the cost savings. I don't know what I would do without a basement.
I would partake in the swap!LOL We get snow here but it isn't even remotely anything like the snow you get. I would love to have so much snow that I would finally get sick of it.LOL
When we visit family in Colorado, I like to go down to the basement. My sister-in-law doesn't have the basement finished but she does have it set up so it is cozy and functionable. I LOVE IT!!!!! It is so quiet in the basement.
I love our basement. The floor has infloor heat so it is nice and cozy. It is also an exposed basement (buried on three sides) I like looking outside. My family is down there alot, especially now that it has cooled down so they are using the exercise equipment more and the pool table.
Okay you have to take the snow with the basement and the cold. I don't mind the snow but the cold temperature stinks.
