The "new coke" bottle made me remember. I have a Jackson Reunion Tour (or whatever they called it) Pepsi can somewhere.
Okay, I know that my mom used short hand at work but I could not learn it, they did nto teach it in school when I was in school and I graduated in 80!
I still have my Donny doll somewhere and my sister had Marie. They had these purple and pink outfits, What a hoot!
Beth, I remember all of those, I think we decided that we were close to the same age. I remember combing the neighborhood for pop bottles to cash them in to get penny candy. Chasing down the milk man to get the ice and put it on our finger and lick during the summer months. We were NOT allowed to wear slacks/pants/jeans to school, just dresses and they had to be to the knee, not shorter (that was in high school) Learning to type on a MANUAL typewriter without the LETTERS on the keys. Gas was $.27 per gallon and they came out and pumped it for you, washed the windows, checked the oil and made sure your tires had the right pressure in them. During Kindergarten, we had milk in cartons delived to our classroom for a snack. We also had half day K. McDonalds only had hamburgs, fries and drinks. Hamburgs were $.17. I don't remember going to a McDonalds until I was in HIGH SCHOOL. Bread man, brought bread and cookies to your house. Watching Dark Shadows, Rifleman, and Captain Penny. Walking home every day for lunch. We didn't have a cafeteria. Only having one car and my mom didn't drive - she never did learn. No INTERSTATE highways. I'm sure there are more, but I am really feeling old now and think I will stop.
I remember sitting in my living room watching Challenger take off. My mom was behind me in the kitchen doing dishes. I was 5 years old. I started screaming "Mommy, it blew up! Mommy, it blew up!" She kept trying to tell me that it was supposed to do that. She assumed I meant that the thrusters had dropped off (which they can do with some degree of gusto). I kept trying to tell her that it exploded. She was getting quite irritated with me. Finally she came in to prove me wrong..........
I also remember paying 6 cents to mail my wedding invitations - 1972!!! I thought I was going to go broke at that price. lol
Aime, you are soooo young. What a catastrophie that was. I also remember that, but I was a lot older. When I was that age (5) it was 1958
Wow, do I feel so much better now. I think I can do laps around the block. LOL Better not, I will probably pass out from the heat - 91 degrees today. Enjoy your young life and don't wish it away - It seems like it was just yesterday that I was 28
okay O Grama i was thinking we were same age but you are older than I am after all! I am 45 as of yesterday and I think my theme is something about LIVE Come alive at 45 or something , ehhe !
Hopefully, you will come alive by 45 because once you hit 50, you feel like you're going down hill, sometimes. Rofl. I know last night I was in bed early
When I started school we got milk in glass bottles and you peeled off a paper top. They had crates you put your bottle in to be washed and refilled at the milk place. I will be 53 in October. I am sick today so I feel much older. Had to get a shot so I would be feeling better before we start school on Monday. The doctor looked shocked when I asked for it. Beth
OH OH I remeber those bottles, ot not sure if it was glass, but we had milk that way from the store, We had milk cartons that you could stick yoru straw in the carton itself with out opening it, and paper straws!
did any of ya'll ever have those straws that had chocolate or strawberry powder in them? You snipped the top and poured them into your carton of milk, then shook. Viola! Chocolate or strawberry milk!
No we didn't have those, we did get milk at the local dairy store that were glass with the paper lids. We had to return them - deposit required. Same with the pop bottles, that's why we would look all over the neighborhood to find them. A penny was a penny for candy. I'll be 54 in December
Beth, hope your feeling better. I just hate being sick. Yesterday I was sick with allergies, must be all the mold outside because of the rain. Praying you feel better.
