I know 30 degrees C (85 for most of you) isn't that big a deal for some of you but when you live in a part of the continent where there's no such thing as a dry heat, it's soul sapping.

Starting school now was stupid. We wake up in the morning and melt down the stairs to the cooler basement where yes, all the school stuff is but shucks, you can't do anything useful when you're under enemy fire even if you happen to be safely tucked away in a bomb shelter.

LOL - for me it's the opposite..... they are heading down to the basement (coolest room in the house) without a desire to come up for air - so they are content doing school work now it seems after day 2. They can't do anything outside when it's 100 degrees.... we just got in from the pool because thunderstorms are coming in.... it's just icky...

It is 86 degrees in my house right now. The humdity makes the air so thick you can't breath. So I know where you are coming from.

I have no a/c and it is 91 in my house right now. I can't do anything in the house with out it raising the temp 20 degrees. Even though we cover things everyday I've changed the schedule and we don't actually plan on officially starting till October 1st. That way we still have some good fun times while other kids are at school. Plus DH's last vacation is mid September.

Right now we are waiting till the first day of school so we can go to the local water park. Our daughter wants to go so bad but I hate having to protect her from all the bigger kids pusing around.

I have my ac set at 80 and it only gets turned on when the heat is no longer tolerable like today. Otherwise I deal with it and so do my kids, we take breaks in between subjects and we tend to do more at night anyway when it's cooler. Since school starts tomorrow for us we'll see how this heat wave goes.

Last year our electric company gave us a discount for keeping it under 500 kwh this year we hit a deregulation period so we've not had a bill under 80's in six months. Which is funny because we do not run anything electric except three fans and the fridge and freezer. Our kwh are less then 500 but they can charge whatever price they want not to mention charge back money in order to make up for the three months when everything was regulated.

    I can't wait to go solar...lol.

Okay Ladies just send all that heat all the way over here to Alaska. It is warm today - a whopping 61 degrees. This is a normal temp for this time of year. I'll take all the heat you want to give, lol.

I'd take Alaska right now - I love that place during this time of year :)

Our house is 75-80 usually I think. We have insulated shades etc. And no AC in the basement....

We ended up putting on the a/c last week and we have yet to turn it off. The humid air is just zapping about every ounce of energy we have lol. I went outside for a bit to check the garden and decided that I was going to cook in the kitchen today lol. Of course take-out isn't an option this week so pulling out the grill works lol.

That is how I feel. We had maybe 5-8 90 degree days - very low humidity here - and today I had to close all the windows because I was freeeeeezing! It was 51 yesterday afternoon and 54 earler today. They say it was 70 in Denver today, but I dont' see how there can be a 20 degree difference in temperature when it is only 60 miles and a 1000 feet of elevation away.

I hope this is not a sign that winter will be terrible. And I feel like we need an ark for all the rain we have been getting. 3.5 inches last night! We have lakes where never there was a lake before.

I wish it would warm up a little bit.

Anyway - we haven't started yet.

It is a wonderful day here! It is 82 and we had a picnic at the park with the church ladies and kids. Last one before school starts for most of us. It was a little breezy so the temp in the shade was nice. ( nicer than inside) We start on Monday but if I felt like we would finish on time I would wait until harvest is over. I have lots of peaches, tomatillos, tomatoes and peppers in the kitchen waiting to be canned or frozen. I hope I can juggle it all.

We actually got our winter blankets out last night! I would like a few more days of warmth! And we haven't turned on the swamp cooler for weeks. I think our summer lasted about 2 weeks.

I wish I had your harvest to worrry about!

61 degrees sounds lovely! At that temperature you can get outside and do stuff. I've got a huge pile of bark mulch (got it for free!) that I want to spread on the flower gardens and that temp would be perfect for that. Maybe I need to move to Alaska. :D

Wow, Alaska!!! We have been in the low 90s for the past few days and it's also been humid. We've been at my brother's house in his pool and at the lake and beach a lot. We're enjoying the end of the summer. The beginning, June and early July weren't as warm as they usually are. I have Monday the 24th planned for us to start and even if it's still this hot, we'll be just fine. Our house is air conditioned so we'll enjoy staying in and keeping cool. We've been out a lot and we come home wiped out!!!

    LOL!!!
    This is a fun thread!

61 degrees means it is time for me to bust out the sweaters. This past week we have been running mild at an average 106 degrees. A few weeks back we were 119. Oddly enough, this has been the coolest summer I remember in a while. Although we hit 119 at one point this year, we usually range between 115-117 in this part of the desert and stay there for a while. For the most part we aren't running over 110.

This year has also been more humid than usual. Usually we have a very dry heat because the moisture is blocked by the mountains. This year we are seeing more humidity. When I say humidity, I mean 15%-30%. LOL
I know that is nothing compared to the humidity some of you get. But for us, who are normally dry, it stinks!!!!!
The one day when we hit 119, it was 100% humidity. I remember the temperature being 110 in the garage at 10:30 at night. I do not know what the heat index was but it was miserable. Our air system never shut off that day.

I will take a dry heat any day over humidity. Thankfully humidity isn't normal for us. After that experience, you all can keep your humidity!!!;)

As for school, we started on July 1st. This way we can take a longer vacation over the holidays.
