So you'd have to buy new cd's for every child?

That's what I think they were saying. I don't have a dc old enough for TT yet, but am considering switching to them for 7th grade.

OK! Here's what they said! First of all, the Math 7 is different than the algebras and geometry. The "lower" levels are computer interactive, and it keeps record of the answers. BUT!!! I asked if that meant I would need to buy another set for my next kid. She said NO!!! You have to uninstall the CD and re-install it. That will erase all the answers from the first child, and is ready for the next one.

Algebra, etc. is NOT like that. You can do that again and again and again.

That's good to know! It would be a shame to spend that much money and only be able to use it with one child! Thanks for finding out for us!

    We use TT

We have used TT Algebra 1. It has worked out great. The cd's are excellent in showing step by step each problem worked through. The instructions are very clear. I like how it comes with the solutions manual.

It is quite expensive being almost $200 for the set, but the resale value I have seen has been good.

They have a great phone response if you have any questions, they are very willing to help out. I have had no problems getting in touch with them.

I have read several comments from people saying that it is geard towards HS'ers so it is dumbed down and does not follow scope and sequence for the grades. It is up to each individual to decide for themselves if it will work for them or not. I however use several items recommended by HS providers and curriculum providers for HS'ers.

Nellie, I sure wish I could find it used!!! To me "written for homeschoolers" does not mean dummied down. It means that it's written for young people to learn independently without a "teacher". The book we're using right now for algebra needs someone knowledgable to explain it to her. A book written for homeschoolers is written in the knowledge that a teacher may NOT be there to explain.

We are going to use this for my 6th grader next year. i asked my neighbor to thoroughly review it.--let me elaborate. She was a high school math teacher (upper level math) 2 yrs. ago, until she had a baby. She was responsible for finding online/cd rom resources/curriculum to use for the county she was in. She said TT looks really good; better that ANYTHING she had reviewed for the ps system at the time. My dh looked over it. He has an MA in a science field, and has had lots of high level calculus. He said it looked good to him also. My friend bought it right away and just loves it (7th grade).
    Hope this helps.

So are you going to use the TT Grade 7 for your 6th grader? I think my ds would like it so much better than Saxon, but planned to stick with Saxon until 7th just for the consistency. I need to look harder at the preview now that ds is finishing up the year and see how close it may be.

yeah--Grade 7 for the 6th grader(rising). She does well in math but HATES it. My 7th grader(rising) wants to stick with Saxon (algebra 1/2), so we may get the DIVE program to go with it--just to free me up some. I also looked at ChalkDust math and actually I thought it looked good, but the man annoyed dd. TT's site has VERY extensive sample lessons to look through. Although the 6th grade wasn't available to browse (at least it wasn't last week).

Something I should have added to my previous post is that before TT we used Saxon. The one thing we did NOT like about it is that the cd's Do Not go along exactly with the book because they are not made by the same company. My child constantly made the comment that there needed to be more information.

That is where TT takes the cake. It is chalked full of info and you can watch each and every problem, including the test problems worked out in detail on their cd's.

I looeked at the placement test for TT grade 7 last night and don't hink my ds11 will have any trouble with it. We are using Saxon, but ds is liking it less and less. I really think he's beginning to need something more visual than Saxon. I cringe at the price, because that is so much more thatn anything else I have ever bought. I just telling myself that I can use it for all 4 kids. I've thought of selling my Saxon kits to help with the costs!

Yes!! I'm using it now for my 5th grader who is very bright but HATES--I mean HATES math. She really likes this. I am not using only one book at a time though; it's just too monotonous for her.
    I'm using:
    geometry 1st book,
    decimal-I think 3rd book,
    algebra -1st book
    percents 2nd book.
She is fine with fractions so I didn't get that.
She is a VERY independent learner and the Saxon was soooo very wordy that she was extemely frustrated with it. In these books, the instruction is very simple and she just reads it and does it. No tears. She also really likes the fact that is the font looks just like her handwriting--go figure!!
We are looking at Teaching Textbooks for her for next year. But for now, this series works great. Hey, if they're not crying, it works for me. LOL

okay, I got it on a list for highschool Geometry... and they have a hard cover text book that is new... So I am thinking since my dd hates math, this may work for her, or video text... though vt looks like work to me with all the books it has.. and is more pricey its less than a private school tuition!
