People have lost sight of the precious right to vote. Very sad. There are people in other countries that would be happy to wait in line for days in order to have a say in their government. I am not fond of waiting in line myself but I am willing to when it comes to voting. Look at all the people who wait in line for hours to ride a rollercoaster or wait for a table for dinner.

I voted for Kinky Friedman for a lot of reasons. He is against the TransTexas Corridor and so am I. I think it is unfair to those people who live in that area where it is to be built to have their land taken away - some of which has been in peoples families for over 100 years. I will one day inherit 200 acres of land from my parents and that land has been in my family for over 150 years. I kno whow I would feel if all of a sudden I had to sell it to the government for a road to be built.

Kinky also wants to close down horse slaughter houses. Two places near Dallas currently slaughter horses and their meat is sold overseas. I just think that is cuel.

He is also for Texas having casino gambling. I don't gamble but Texans that do have to go out of state to do so and those states are bringing in Texas money that coul dbe used to partially fund Texas schools. Did you know Gov. Perry accepted $40k in funds from a casino in Oklahoma but he is against casinos in Texas?

Kinky also seems to be the only one of the candidates who is a real person. He doesn't talk in circles and avoid questions and he isn't funded by lobbyists with their own agenda.

Personally I believe it is a woman's choice as far as abortions go. Do I advocate abortions? No I do not but I also don't think the government has a right to tell me whether or not I can have one.

I just think that nothing in Texas will change with Perry or Bell so I voted for the Kinkster and so did all of my friends.

    GO KINKY!!!! Woo Hoo!!!

Well, Ava, Blackwell just made his concession speach. Sigh.... It's going to be a long, four years! I think a lot of it is because Taft was such a jerk!

I just got on, Jackie, to express my sorrow at Strickland's win---as I sit and watch his silly speech. UGH! I am so disappointed. Things are looking good for Dewine either.

We just got back from voting and dinner.:D
The line was extremely long but few people seemed to be complaining. We were lucky, we only had to wait about 40 minutes. By the time we left the polls, the line was four times longer then when we arrived. It looks like we made it just on time. We still have another half hour to go before it is over, it is about 7:23 California time. I'm waiting with anticipation to see who we end up with for the coming years.

Well, DeWine deserves to lose, even though I voted for him. As you said, he was better than the other choice!

I agree, DeWine should not be elected. What a shame, neither one deserves to be in office. Maybe I should run for office....LOL...now that would be a hoot! LOL.

I, too, am really irked by lack of voter turnout. In our county, approximately only 66% of the population are registered voters and only 56% of them turned out to vote today. So, that's a rough estimate of only about 1/3 of our county's people voting today, right??

I love to take the kids with me--it sends a great message-- but the boys put the kibosh on that today. We have new computerized voting machines and I think it would've been too hard to keep two-year-old fingers off of them. So, I waited till DH got home from voting himself. Something he is proud to do after gaining U.S. citizenship just a couple of years ago. (He's from Macedonia).

Jen, I like the idea of having the kids vote on their favorites after going with you to the polls. I'll have to remember that for next time!!

Well, it's over and done with, except for Virginia and Montana. I guess those results could affect the Congress yet. I told Carl I think I need to start systematically restocking my pantry for long-term again. That's how uneasy I am about the results of this election. I don't trust the Democrats AT ALL. I believe they will leave us open to increased terrorism, as well as attempt to legislate moral decay. They will try to appoint judges who will legislate from the bench and mis-interpret the Constitution. Bush has had trouble getting his nominees voted for as it is because idiotic Republicans like DeWine sabotaged him with that "compromise". Now it will be impossible. Also, if the Dems gain both branches, look for them to try to impeach Bush.

Do you mind if I sign my name to this post also? I was very disappointed with the election. All I could think about was that Jesus most certainly be on His way now.

I have always found the death penalty to be a difficult issue. I know many Christians, including my pastor, that are all for it. I never really knew where I stood. I always say I am for it...but sometimes....I just get a feeling that maybe I shouldn't be. Another hard choice.

I know what you mean Ava. I would have loved to vote yes, but something in my heart said no and I couldn't do it. My husband voted yes. He is sickend by people and tired of paying taxes to keep them behind bars. I am too, but I just couldnt' do it. I almost felt guilty as I started to put yes. In a way I guess you can say I am not disapointed we will have the death penalty (if that is the final outcome...I believe it is), but I am glad I still voted no. So, I guess I got what I initially wanted, but didn't have to vote in favor for it to get it.

I believe in a death penalty, but not the way we do it in this country. I believe that a person, once convicted, should be executed within a week, or a month at the most. I don't believe in appeals that continue on for the next thirty years. We are soft on violent criminals in this country, and the criminals know it. Also, I believe that if a death occurs during a crime such as a robbery, ALL INVOLVED in the robbery should be held equally accountable, not just the one pulling the trigger.

Ava, I also know that God puts who He wants on thrones! That's not to say that "God's man" was elected, but God IS in control of the events in this world. The results of this election was no surprise to Him!

See this is why the death penalty is hard for me. Reading this I would say that I totally agree. yet, there is a part of me that wonders.... I do think we are way to soft on violent crime. I also think that everyone involved in a crime should be equally accountable. I think that attempted murder is the same as murder. What you get 10 years less because you failed at your crime? lol.

In the city next door to us, a man was in jail for a previous crime. He was in the process of a molestation trial which would add more time to his stay in jail. He asked other inmates if they knew a hitman to carry out a job on the child and her older sister, who was his girlfirend at one time. He found a lady friend who decided to help him out. Word got to the prison guards and to the police. A sting operation was set in place and an undercover agent accepted the job to kill the people when money was exchanged the lady was arrested.
Here is the odd part, the man in jail is being charged and will serve an additional eight years for his part in hiring somebody to do the job. The lady who set it up with the undercover agent is expected to get 80 to life because planning a hit is the same as murder. In California that is.
This is what gets me, her crime is the same as his, as far as I am concerned. He molested a child, was now serving time for a previous crime and will now serve a few more for this action and he will be out of jail sooner then the lady who carried out the plan. I think they both deserve to rot in jail.
