Wow, an infection of some sort. You could have paid ME to tell you that and to do nothing for you!

Sorry you have to do a performance in that condition. What if that thing ruptures because you're talking to much? That might cause you to go septic-dangerous! Can't you get someone to take your place?

I am so sorry that you're going through this. I know the show must go on but I feel for you having to perform like this. During Nutcracker one weekend we thought dd had strep (ended up being an infection) but she refused to sit out.

Since you haven't been prescribed anti biotics, garlic (pills and fresh) may help wipe it out. And keep gargling with tea tree oil if you are able.

    Praying for you.

I'm so sorry, Amie, that that's all the "help" the doctor would give you! (Mine has "settled" into an annoyance just to the right of my larynx, too far down for gargling to be of any help, and it still comes and goes, and I still feel it in my ear as well but it's not painful just "full" feeling.) Praying for ya, and hope you get through your performance in the best possible way! "Break a leg, kiddo!"

I am glad you went on to the doctor. I will be praying they can pinpoint what kind of infection you have and cure it quickly.

I would think that, especially if they were concerned about it going septic, they'd put you on antibiotics. I understand it doesn't help a viral infection, but they don't know that's what it is. I might be bacterial, in which case it WOULD help. And it sure won't HURT for you to be on them....

I mentioned that. She said that she is not one of those doctors who prescribes unnecessary medications. That, I told her, was a fact for which I was thankful. But I haven't been on antibiotics in two years and it had been four before that. So there was no worry about "overuse" leading to resilience. She just reiterated that until they knew what it was, she would not prescribe anything.

Oh well.. I got through last night's dress rehearsal with throat spray and perseverance

This may or may not be helpful to you, but my oldest daughter gets tonsil stones once in a while, and she's had success with TheraBreath's Tonsil Stones Starter Kit ... http://www.therabreath.com/art_tonsilstones.asp Tonsil Stones are an infection, and theres a white puss that comes out. It makes her throat very sore, and before you said you went to the doctor, I thought that may be what you had. Although your infection may be in a different area, maybe the Tonsil Stones Kit might help your infection too?

Thanks Mandiana, I'll look into it!

    UPDATE:
I felt pretty miserable yesterday morning, but as soon as I took a dose of Ibuprofen, I felt better. The doctor was out for family reasons yesterday, so one of the nurse practitioners called me around 5pm. She wanted to give me the preliminary results from the cultures (which said exactly nothing. "normal mouth stuff" was all they found so far. lol). Anyhow, she asked how I was feeling and I told her about yesterday morning. She asked what the doctor prescribed. I said nothing. She called in a prescription for amox. Woohoo for nurses who think straight!

So that means I'm on an anti-biotic now. Hopefully that will take care of this quickly.

GOOD!!! I appreciate not wanting to over-medicate or give meds when they won't do any good, BUT.....

Three days on the antibiotic has made a huge difference! My throat still hurts a little, but the lump is nearly gone (so I don't feel like a have a golfball in my windpipe). I also don't feel miserable as much.
