I'm curious. I'm a pretty run of the mill christian for the community I'm in but I'm pretty different from a lot of the christians here. I think that's interesting and I'm just wondering what you guys are.

I'm Anglican myself, Anglican Church of Canada.

I grew uop in the Christian and Missionary Alliance church....if they had one here where I live that is where I would go. But we go to a non-demoninational church which we like pretty well.

In my heart, I am Christian and Missionary Alliance.

I was baptised Church of Christ, raised Southern Baptist, came to believe a lot of the teachings of the Pentecostals (but not ALL of them) in my high school and college years, and was most recently a member of a Nazarene church.

    That help?

I identify most with probably the contemporary Baptists... but I believe "more" than a lot of them do. (As in, I believe a lot of things that they don't believe... or don't understand, especially as related to faith and the spiritual realm.)

*giggling at how confusing I know this reads*

We're currently in search of a non-denominational church. That might best describe us. :)

EDIT: I don't really care about denominations. There are several truths that I align myself with, and a few doctrinal things that I think are right but dont' think that everyone has to do it that way to get into heaven. I'm a Christian, first and foremost. Denominations are just a way to fellowship with like-minded Christians, who udnerstand some of the same principles from God's word. In the end, we'll all be right in some things - the most important of course being Christ - and we'll all be wrong in some things. None of us know it all. End of rant, for now....

Great rant. :) I'm with you...Nothing about being an anglican gets me into heaven, it's more about exactly what you said, the fellowship of like-minded christians. I've really got nothing more to add...I think you nailed it. :D

And I have to admit, I'm going googling. I've never heard of the Christian and Missionary Alliance! I think I'm very sheltered here in Eastern Canada!

ROFLMBO! Sorry, found this amusing. No reason really I dont' guess, other than the fact that you pointed it out to begin with. I can't tell you why it's funny, and I mean nothing by it. It just made me giggle.

    *is in a good mood*

    *WARNING! THREAD HIJACK UNDERWAY!*
    And Dawn - YAY! (((hugs)))
I enjoy conversation about beliefs and why we believe them. There are several things that I am die-hard on, and absolutely think I'm right and won't change. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy learning WHY others think the way they do. It leads me to do research and give myself backup as to why I think this way. (Does that make sense?)
I enjoy reading your posts, even though, admittedly, I don't agree with a lot of them. Why do I enjoy it? Because they make me think. They make me go find out. I seldom post responses to you, because I tend to state things in a matter-of-fact manner and in a very "intolerant, judgemental" way, and am totally unapologetic for that.
If I post in contradiction or instigating the continuation of conversation, it is because you are giving me insight as to the "why" of things that are important to me, and I'm sparking you on to better research my own beliefs. Does that make sense?

Thanks for the opportunity to say that. Because of how I think, I often come off as offensive when I'm merely prying for more insight into how others think and why they do so the way they do. Glad to have chance to say this to you so that maybe we can avoid misunderstanding, offense, and harsh words and hurt feelings now and in the future. (I get my feelings hurt easily. LOL If I disappear, it's because it's time for me to stop for my own good, before I throw my computer out the window. LOL)
    *OKAY. HIJACK OVER. I THINK.*

Christian and Missionary Alliance is a Protestant demonination (did I say that right?)

have to say, I agree, too, with DaLynn. I am a bible believing christian. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again the third day. I believe in the trinity, and that getting to heaven ONLY comes through accepting Jesus as your personal Savior. :)

Don't worry! I can take it if you sound harsh and I won't think you're being offensive. I just might get pushier myself is all. :)

Actually, beliefs aside, I think we've probably got some similarities. I enjoy just the kind of discussions you're describing. The ones that push me and point out my weaknesses and make me shore up, re-evaluate or even sometimes change my POV's. I actually frequent an atheist message board in part for that reason (the other being that they have some fantastic biblical scholars, christian and secular, who post. I've never seen people who could quibble so long about what one greek word might mean). And I had to take a break from it because there were a couple of militant anti-theists I was ready to do very un-christian things to. :D

I only mentioned being a feminist, because when someone says Southern Baptist, certain things come to mind. I don't agree with everything that comes out of the SBC. If my Jeannie wants to be another Joyce Meyer, Momma's going to back her all the way. I believe women can and should be ministers. My two cents.

    Independent Baptist, KJV style. lol.

I was raised catholic. I didn't seek out another religion...I got saved and God led me to friends who eventually led me to my current church. I could go into great long winded detail but I know God put me in the church I am in now for many reasons.

I am not big into denominations though.

Dawninns...like DaLynn said, I may disagree but I enjoy posting with ya. You make me think and challenge me to learn more about my own beliefs. Of course, I always seem to come out more convicted of my own beliefs...LOL...LOL...but oh well. LOL. I do appreciate the respect in which you write all your posts. Makes things very fun!

    I agree! :)
Ref: the post I just made... I think it was in the one about the laws in Californa... about Paul's writings. LOL (I know. What a thread to insert that stuff. I hijacked that one too, I guess. No wait, they were already talking about that stuff when I popped in. Yep, they were. not Paul, but... Okay I'll stop. LOL)

And I ditto AvaRose's comment about being affirmed in my beliefs more often than not. ;)

I used to have some preconceptions about what baptists were and then I did some reading about what they were before the late 70's. Very independent, congregational and very focussed on social justice. I think a feminist SB may be a woman who is close to the roots of her church? :)

A side note. Here in Canada we owe our public healthcare to the tireless efforts of a baptist minister, Tommy Douglas (Kiefer Sutherland's grandfather!), who decided it was needed and eventually become premier of a province to push it through.

Another side note: I went to church last week and realized a funny thing. Every position from the altar girl right up to the bishop of my diocese was filled by a female. We have two ministers and the one with the male bits is off on vacation so it was an estrogen filled day at church. :)

    Now I'm rambling...

That healthcare sidenote was cool...Keifer Sutherland's grandfathr, huh? I need to tell my dad. He loves that show 24. lol. He will like that little tidbit. lol.

I am always thrown for a loop with the role of women in the church. I was not raised in a baptist home. I remember going to a lunch with a friend and her baptist church friends. all the men sat on one end of the table and all the women on the other. The preacher asked someone to pray. His wife looked and said, "ME?" He said, "Now have I ever asked you to pray before a meal?" LOL. Whoa. I thought that was a strange experience. I grew up with "I am woman hear me roar" from my mom to then experiencing that. Crazy. My mil is a "minister". She preaches all the time. My dh's cousin is also a female minister. At my church that is unheard of and not looked on as approiate. I hear so many different sides and views that this is one topic I stay away from. LOL. I just do and speak as the Lord would have me....ok...my tongue reflects my flesh alot sad to say. We also have no women as deacons. My mom's friend goes to a Southern Baptist church and she is a deaconess. So, there are many viewpoints. I sometimes don't know what to think on this one. I will admit I lean toward the view that women should not preach to men. My friend's dad who is baptist says that if a man chooses to hear a woman that is fine but should not be in a position to have to hear a woman. He told me of a time when a preacher's dd was about to speak at a southern baptist convention and when she got up every man in the room turned his back on her. Now...that is what he said...he is reliable but who knows, right? Anyway...women's roles in the church is full of counterversay and one that I actually stay out of. LOL.

I was Catholic as a youngster. Then we switched to an Assemblies of God church. Talk about culture shock. I was mostly raised A/G, but my mom was not above picking about some of their beliefs and letting me know what she disagreed with. It was a great way to grow up. To know that it was ok to question the beliefs of the church.... even the one I was submerged in.

Anyhow. I went to an A/G college, while my mom was off at an A/G college (The Brownsville Revival School of Ministry). She ended up getting ordained through the ministry of one of the Kenneths (I always forget which).

Now she and her husband co-pastor their own non-denominational home church, that is about to grow into a "real" church. All the while attending Sunday and Wednesday night services at a Southern Baptist church.

I have spent the last 3 years attending a Four Square church. When things went horribly wrong there, we decided to go back to the A/G. I want my boys to be in Royal Rangers and I agree with them at least enough to fellowship. More than that, really, though not 100%.

I was raised Lutheran and been to every type of church under the sun. I don't like the distictions between denominations. To me either you believe the Bible or you don't and I think a lot of denominations make it their own. I'm just a Bible believing Christian.

I really just like to say that I'm a Christian, as my pastor says 'God doesn't pay any attention to the sign in front of the church, He looks at the hearts in the church'. I kinda paraphrased that a little, but you get my drift.
But since that doesn't answer your question... I go to an Apostolic Holiness church.

I was raised 6 years in an evangelical (spelling is probably off) church, 3 years in a four square a/g church and 9 years in a very conservative baptist church. At first it was confusing because they are so different ends of the spectrum, but it really taught me to figure out what "I" believe and not what the church believes.

Now, we go to a non denomanational church, which has both sides of it all.

Sorry for any spelling errors. I am very tired and still packing and coming off a cafeen igh

Leslie, I was raised in a C&MA Church! That is neat because I don't see that very often.

Dawninns, my dh was raised in the Anglican Church, but in Belize.

I have not been to church in many years but I have kept my faith. I would love to find a church, but don't even know where to start. I have some skeletons in my marriage that AmyU's posts almost made me vent, but that is another story! That is part of why I haven't looked for a church, though. Sorry if that makes no sense!

It's funny sometimes, the teachings of the church or maybe I should say beliefs. We grew up feeling that dancing was a sin but we would have roller skating parties that to me were very close to dancing!! I remember my mom telling me that her aunt was told that the fair was "the devil's playground".
