    How terrible!!!!
One of our neighbors is a drug addict and she was mad because our dog was barking. So she threatened to take my dog and give it away. That didn't fly with me so I called the police and they warned her that if she steps into my yard, she would be arrested for trespassing as well as theft. To bad you didn't get your dog back.:(

My parents live in the middle of nowhere. The nearest police station is over and hour away. My dad keeps his rifle handy in case he ever needs it. So far, they have been pretty safe where they live.

Oh, do I ever miss my Sparky for his watchdog skills! These butterball cats of Jeannie's just don't come near being protectors! They want to know why their bowl isn't filled.

That is very strange you did good to shut the door on him. I am so glad we have a fence around our place and our dogs won't let anyone in, a few days ago some young guy was selling stuff saying he was from the school district he didnt come to my house just my neighbor, next week in the paper they warned of a guy doing this saying it was not from the schoool district.

Keep a watchful eye out he might be back.

Reading all these posts has been a good reminder that I can be too trusting. How sad that trusting is now a detriment to me!

We have a fence but lately I have been keeping it open after Handsome leaves. We have been coming and going so much this past month that it is just easier to drive in and out without worrying about a gate. Well, today I made sure it was shut again! ;)

We have to drive through a gate to get into our backyard. Sometimes it is a hassle opening and closing but I feel better with it closed.

You know, it is odd because we have a gate to get into the front yard. This is the gate I was leaving open. Then we have gates to get into the middle yard and again the way backyard. I do not mind opening and shutting the middle and backyard gates. There is something about the front yard gate that I can't stand. I think it is because I do not like getting out on a busy street and unlocking the gate. I think getting in and out of the car has something to do with it too. I guess it is simply laziness on my part.LOL
I rarely use the side gate. It is the gate that leads from the generic alley into the middle yard. My in-laws put it in when they lived here so they didn't have to drive through the front. This gate is always locked. I do not like having a gate that leads into our yard in an area I can't see. I just assume we close it up but Handsome uses it on occasion. I rarely use it but I do not mind getting out of the car to unlock this gate. It is something about the front gate I guess. It is pretty shameful, I am sure. But I plan to lock and unlock it when I come and go from now on.

I have a three fold security system. First we have the red dog. She is so yappy, she tells me when anybody even walks by the house. Second we have the yellow dog. We call her the yellow speed bump. She doesn't bark and wags her tail alot. But if anybody she doesn't like comes in the yard she will chase them right back out, and looks very mean. Last I have the shotgun, which is a last ditch effort I hope not to use.

Now this doesn't work with people my dogs know are allowed in. My mom walked right in the house, not knocking or anything. Neither dog so much as moved. The yellow dog opened her eyes but didn't even move. The red dog wagged her tail to say hi.

We had several people get their cars, and houses broke into on our street. We had a good idea of who was doing it, or at least somebody who know who was doing it . We let them know that we were armed to the teeth and not afraid to protect our property. Our house was the only one on the street that wasn't messed with.

My security system is a lot like yours. I have one "mean" dog who will bite an intruder but the rest of them will just bark. None of them are scary looking, all of them are toy dogs. I am thinking of getting one big dog just for security. Maybe a St. Bernard or something that looks big and scary. Something that could scare an intruder away. A vicious Pom or Pekingese just dont have the same effect as a big dog lol.

Where we live, you cant even see our home from the road, which is a gravel road in the middle of nowhere. If someone came here to do me harm, I dont even think anyone could hear me scream for help. I am basically on my own for at least 15 to 20 min because it would take the cops that long to even get here and thats if they found our home right away (most people cant find it right away).

We do keep guns and my husband has a conceal and carry, just incase someone does come out here to do us harm. It does scare me sometimes, living way out here, especially when you hear things on the news about home invasions. I would totally freak if some weirdo stranger showed up here and call the cops at the slightest hint of weird behavior because I really am all alone all day long with no one to even help me if there is trouble.

Good. Even if this guy was on the up and up his superiors need to sit him down and have a talk with him about how he approaches and he scares someone who has a shotgun in their front closet.

    Especially since this involves children...Sheesh.

I have a friend that's work used to be related to social services. They had a case where some people knocked on a family's door (not homeschoolers), said they were from Children's Services, were invited in and strip-searched the kids. This cemented the resolution that I will never let officials in the house unless they're accompanied by police with warrants.
