Over time, I've tried to step back from politics. So much money is wasted supporting candidates, and so much time is wasted arguing over policies. I'd much rather use that money and time doing other things. It takes effort because I was once an official parliamentary candidate in Britain, but I want to get my priorities straight.

In essence, I believe the smaller the government the better, the fewer the regulations the better, and the more responsibility given to the individual the better. On the other hand, the amount spent on weapons and overseas aggression and the number of deaths caused by firearms are a national disgrace. Yes, we should be doing much more to help the poor and needy, but that help should be voluntary so it demonstrates genuine love. I don't believe that global warming is man-made, but I do believe strongly that we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil - which only goes to finance our most fervent enemies. So, take your choice: I'm conservative on some things and liberal on others (but can't abide either label). :)

What about those of us who don't have any label at all? My views tend to have me bouncing all over. I use to vote for candidates strictly by who ever wasn't "mud-slinging". Unfortunately, for at least the last 10 years, I haven't been able to truly vote that way. Sigh :(

Dawn, I'm a conservative, but I will say that I'm willing to go with you on the Obama-as-naive walk. I try to keep an open mind, and I cry when Bambi's mom was shot (and when Ole Yeller died lol) but now it's because I'm bawling about Bambi being all alone, dunno what that says about me. I listen to O'Reilly but I don't treat his every word as gospel and sometime he irritates me. But you don't have to tell anyone *that*. ;)

    *APPLAUSE*

Quite a few things I disagree with you about, Steve, but this post is fantastic. :D (I could nit-pick a thing or two, but generally speaking - of course. LOL)

I don't like to talk politics so you will very rarely if ever see me on the political portion of this board. I get enough of that crap daily from my husband. lol!

I despise listening to any political talk radio. I think partly because I see my dh get himself all worked up by listening to it. It just riles my last nerve! Can't stand Rush at all.

Gay marriage? Well I am a christian and my personal belief is that the Bible clearly states it is a sin but so are many other things we do everyday. A sin is a sin and it isn't my job to be the Holy Spirit. Matter of fact, my best friend that I have known for 28 years is a lesbian. I welcome her into my home, my life, my family all with open arms. I don't agree with it but I love her dearly. I really don't care if gay marriage is allowed or not. Isn't my job to jusge in the end.

I do however love you Dawn and the fire and fun you bring to this board! It would just not be the same without you!

Oh and Obama is a good looking guy I guess but hot is not the word I'd use at all. lol!

Hah - didn't read all the posts - but am a liberal. Don't mind at all anyone trying to "discuss" with me my politics as long as the conversations are well-worded and not petty. Once the cursing and personal remarks about myself start...well, then I'll just be moving on. Oh, and I should clarify; I may be an excellent shot, but I'm afraid I wouldn't take out Bambi's mom.

    I'm a classical liberal. :)

O.K. so that's not what you are looking for but I probably have just as much in common with you as "conservatives". The terms have become a little messy lately. I'm not sure I want to use them half the time.
