I got sidetracked with my weeman, sorry. I moved our maps from the playroom to downstairs on the wall. We started talking about the states. Then I showed my daughter how to we can look them up online (research?). I learned that it is Alaska. The highest point is the U.S. is in Alaska. Also learned that Yellowstone Park is in three states.
Someone I know wrote a blog about how ever since she's been homeschooler her kids, her IQ has improved. She says that she takes a test once a year just to do it and she always scores a few points higher! LOL
Texas is the largest that are all connected. lol I once had a gal from New York who was sending something to D.C. ask me what state it was in. ummmmmm lol Ya know I would have given her the benefit of the doubt if she lived on the West coast someplace and wasn't a US Citizen. Just in case I'm making you feel dumb....a letter being addressed to D.C. would read 1234 Street Name Washington D.C. zip And...the D.C. stands for District of Columbia of course. And do you all know about the 5th ocean? In 2000, the International Hydrographic Organization created the fifth world ocean - the Southern Ocean - from the southern portions of the Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Pacific Ocean. The Southern Ocean completely surrounds Antarctica. The Southern Ocean extends from the coast of Antarctica north to 60 degrees south latitude. The Southern Ocean is now the fourth largest of the world's five oceans (after the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, and Indian Ocean, but larger than the Arctic Ocean). For some time, those in geographic circles have debated whether there are four or five oceans on earth. Some consider the Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific to be the world's four oceans. Now, those that side with the number five can add the fifth ocean and call it the Southern Ocean or the Antarctic Ocean, thanks to the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). Anyhoo...geography for the day.
lol thanks, hey is California liek the longest then? it is something in there that is more than what texas' is, I forget what it is now, Lol kinda sleepy at the moment
The History Channel has been having interesting programs about each of the states lately. Alaska is large enough that you could place Texas and California in it and still have room for New Mexico.
Actually...I lied in my post...the Post Office doesn't like the periods in between. Which I always omit when doing an actual letter. Washington DC zip Anyhooooooo I don't know I'd have to look up the CA vs TX in "length" It's gotta be close to the same if you do from tip to tip.
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u114/MaBear2007/100_1375.jpg I hope this works. I remember talking about them but don't remeber if I showed a pic of them. I got the fabric at walmart and put backing on them.
It's Alaska... unless you melt it. Then it's Texas! (Alaska's mostly ice. If you melt it and count only LAND, then it's smaller than TX.) And California has a larger POPULATION than TX. I'm not sure about the length... depends on which way you measure probably. LOL I'm so gonna Google it....
The longest straight-line distance in a general north-south direction is 801 miles from the northwest corner of the Panhandle to the extreme southern tip of Texas on the Rio Grande below Brownsville. http://www.texasalmanac.com/environment/ The length of the state of California is 770 Miles / 1239 km (east to west). http://www.classbrain.com/artstate/publish/length_width_california.shtml
