Now seriously, this is scripture we should have our children memorize. Very important lesson. Once, my neighbor made the comment that they liked their dd hanging out with mine because mine was so well behaved. They were hoping that she would be an influence. This was when she was 5. I thought that was crazy. I also thought that it is rarely the good one that influences the bad one but the other way around. Their dd was sorta bratty but she wasn't so bad. Geesh, my own dd is sorta bratty at times. lol.

It is hanging in our kitchen. We have discussed it on occasion concerning specific kids...why they could play in our backyard, but my kids are NOT (under ANY circumstances!!!) allowed to go around the corner to play with them. We also have discussed it in connection with my DSS, who ran into "fools" at his Christian school. It is VERY CLEAR the results of this choice in his life!

That's too bad it didn't work out TMom! I bet it looked neat!

Still haven't heard anything. I didn't ask about the boy or boys that dared him, I wish I would have!

I may need to call or stop by and see what happened. Or I wonder if they'll now have a copy of the report the officers made? The sheriff said we could call and ask for a copy of the report, and they'd send us one when it's all done.

Proverbs is great for stuff like this! There are so many that could apply in this situation! It's good, too, to bring it up to my kids and show them, and have them find on their own, texts that apply to this situation, and why they don't want to get anywhere near those kinds of people or listen to those types of temptations.............or ANY temptations for that matter!

The Lord is obviously using this as a great object lesson in your family, Deena. Thank you for sharing the progression of the drama with us!

We got an envelope in the mail today from the Prosecuting Attorney. It said they they charged the boy with Arson in the 2nd degree. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but when he talked to me on the phone wI said we'd prefer he just get the lesser charge. But this is a higher charge. There is another trial date for sentencing in February.

It was sad to see, cuz the top of the letter says, "State of Washington vs. __________" with our neighbor boy's name. :(

I guess we can just keep praying!

Second Degree Arson is committed when any person willfully and maliciously sets a fire with intent to burn down a building. Every state has different penalties. In some states I believe it is a felony, others are more lenient. I also think it depends on how much damage was caused. Every state is different. Maybe you can contact the fire department or court house and find out what your laws are.

Even if he gets the higher charge the sentence can be waved or whatever if it is his first instance of crime.
and Yes we will keep praying because it is possible for this boy to get really to know God if he gets set up in juvinile detention or a group home which is mroe likely I think if its a first offecnce with this type of thing?
    prayers going up!

The thing about it is that he could have blown up half the block so they see it as he tried too. It is very very serious. I hate to hear of the punishment but he really needs to be punished. I would hate to see my child punished but I would want it for his or her betterment.
God was really watching out for you all.

In order to be charged with intent, they have to have evidence, which they have by what they found on the house and anything else they have found both physical and what they have been told.
In California, his friends would be charged with 2nd degree arson as well, even if they only put him up to it but had nothing to do with the physical action.
Do you know if anything will happen to them?
    I sure hope so.
God is working here. That is for sure and I am still praying.

In some states the charge is worse if someone is in the building. I don't know if that is a factor in your state.

In California if the damage is over $100., don't quote me on this, I am still trying to remember, then it is a felony and if it is under $100., then it is a misdemeanor.

The cable company fixed the singed wire for free, and the gas company didn't charge for their check to make sure the meter was okay. The siding around where the wire is is singed, but I'm not sure how bad it is. The bush and bark that were burning are really not things that you'd consider damage, I think. Part of the bush is burnt, but the other part is okay. And bark, well, it's rained so much that you can't tell which part was burned and which wasn't.

Whatever prompted him to run tell us, I am greatful for! I KNOW God watched out for us, and to Him I am extremely grateful!

The lady of the family from our church, who is really good friends with this boy's mom, talked with us today. She said she went to the most recent court hearing, and that it seems the boy is NOT taking this seriously, and gave me a couple instances that seemed to look that way. She said they were impressed that we are taking it so well, and they told her they were very happy that we prayed with them!

I guess I'd like to make our prayers more specific to helping this boy see his mistake and really take responsibility. It doesn't seem to be getting through! :( I'd hate to see him try something else like this later, cuz he doesn't "get it" now! Something really bad could happen if he doesn't get with the program now! Maybe that's why they're going a little tougher, cuz he seems to have an "oh well, let's go home now" type of attitude about it! Anyway, thanks again, and please pray for him and his responsibility!!!

Anyone have any ideas on what work you'd have this boy do?

We have a gas fireplace, so hauling wood isn't an option. We do have some trees that he might be able to clear brush from???

It is so sad he isn't learning from his mistakes. I have a feeling he may wish he did.

My nephew was always in a lot of trouble as a kid and it unfortunately followed him into adulthood. He never seemed to learn from his bad choices no matter what consequences he had to face. Now, at age 25, he is in prison serving a 2.5 year sentence.....and FINALLY he has seen the light! He has remorse for his behavior and has actually dedicated his life to the Lord recently because of this. PTL! My point is, sometimes it takes some people longer to get turned around. I hope this will not be the case for this boy, but it wouldn't surprise me either.

I hope that doesn't happen with this boy either. It's almost like he's enjoying the attention! :( I know there's some way to reach him, so I am praying the God leads the right person or people or circumtances to this boy to help change him around before he lands in jail when he's 25, or hurts himself or someone else through his reckless behaviour!!!
