Ok, I know you guys are sick of me posting. lol. My church gives a huge shower for the first kid you have as a member of the church or your first kid....whichever applies. I had a huge shower for my third because it was my first at my church. It is something we enjoy doing for the new moms and the new member moms. We love it! But then again, we are Baptist and any eating event is our gig. lol.

    Just jumping in here....

With my first child we had several showers thrown for us (my work, dh's work, church, and his family threw one). When we were expecting again (just 18 month later) one of the ladies from the church offered to throw another shower at the church for us.

I told her how much I appreciated it, but I felt like I had just had a wonderful shower from everyone and felt uncomfortable asking them, again. She understood, but really wanted to do something especially since she knew that our first was a boy and the upcoming baby was a girl.

Instead the did a "pounding" for us that just consisted of baby wipes, baby diapers and formula (I wasn't able to breastfeed). They set up a big box in the foyer of the church and everyone started bringing items to fill up the box. It was AWESOME!! Some people thought ahead and got us bigger-sized diapers for later. In fact, we didn't have to buy diapers for almost 6 months! And, as long as the package isn't open, WalMart will let you exchange smaller ones for the larger size....so we were set!

Just an idea if you're ever looking for a solution to the "multiple shower" idea. It worked well for everyone: our friends/family felt like they got to help us celebrate, and we didn't feel like we were putting everyone "out" for gifts.

That is a great idea. That would also be a great idea to minister to those outside of church that need help. Thanks for the idea. I have been searching a way to begin a ministry for children in need. Our church always gives showers for the first baby you have at the church. Just standard issue. :) So, this idea wouldn't work for the members as much as in the form of a ministry. THanks!
