mana was a white flaky food that God rained down from heaven to save people from starvation... Gathering more than was needed of it for one day would cause it to rot by morning.

Genesis 9:1-4: Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it."

After the Flood, there wasn't as much vegetation (obviously), and the climates changed. If you notice in chapter 8, verses 8-12, it says: "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights."

In Genesis 1 (way back in the Beginning!), verses 6-8 it says: 'And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.'

There is geological evidence that the whole world - even the South Pole! - was once tropical. So Biblical scholars think that these verses mean that the world was once surrounded by a vapor layer - the original Greenhouse effect! - and that before the Flood it had probably had never actually rained before. At night as the earth cooled there would be a heavy dew that would water the plants and during the heat of the day it would all evaporate again. The thought of it raining for 40 days and nights and having a flood that would cover the whole earth was completely foreign to Noah. His neighbors must have thought he had completely cracked up!

After the Flood, the vapor layer was gone and suddenly they had seasons and temperate zones. All of that Flooding no doubt triggered lots of earthquakes and other geological activity - which started the Continental Drift. You see, all of the things that the scientists see actually DID happen - just not by chance and not in the time frame they expect. They think that the Grand Canyon (just to use an example) must have taken millions and millions of years to form - and so it must have if you accept that the Colorado River cut it by pure erosion. But after Mount St. Helens erupted and caused all sorts of trauma, similar canyons were cut into the mountains in a matter of WEEKS - not years! - simply by the action of the floods that the eruption caused. So the Grand Canyon could certainly have be caused by a sudden huge Flood that covered the whole earth.

Ok, I'm getting way off the subject. I'm looking forward to getting to teach science, can you tell?!! :)

The whole point was, yes, after the Flood God told Noah and his family to start eating meat because the plants that they used to get their protein from no longer existed.

    MANNA

"What is it?" (Ex 16:15). This question, asked by the astonished Israelites, led to the name manna being applied to the "small round substance as fine as frost" (Ex 16:14). Manna looked "like white coriander seed." It tasted like "wafers made with honey" (Ex 16:31) or "pastry prepared with oil" (Num 11:8).

The manna appeared with the morning dew. The Hebrews were instructed to gather only what was needed for one day, because any surplus would breed tiny worms and be spoiled. On the sixth day, however, the Israelites were permitted to gather enough for two days; they were forbidden to gather any manna on the Sabbath. Miraculously, the two days' supply of food gathered on the sixth day did not spoil.

Manna could apparently be baked, boiled, ground, beaten, cooked in pans, and made into cakes (Ex 16:23; Num 11:8). Moses even commanded Aaron to put a pot of manna in the ARK OF THE COVENANT (Ex 16:32-34), so future generations might see the "bread of heaven" on which their ancestors had fed.

This didnt seem to go through the first time So I am resending it, my study bible had this under Manna .... hope it helps, hope its not too boring sounding as its straight from the cut and paste version ;]

That is very interesting information!!! Thanks for sharing!:) I had always imagined manna as this long hard flat bread...sort of cracker-like.

    Hey ladies!
I thought I would share with you something that happened to me yesterday....
    This is weird!

I had said, earlier that one thing that hung up my DH and me on religion, is the notion that knowledge is bad. We go this notion from the Adam and Eve story, because they ate from the "Tree of Knowledge" and from other sources that I cannot totally recall at the moment.

Some refer to knowledge as the proof that God is dead. Or some sayt hat science is evil or of the devil because knowledge will lead you away from God. This of course makes no sense, but since it seemed it was in the bible, you can understand our confussion.

As a side note, I taught myself Russian. << Remember that.

Ok, fast forward to yesterday.. Or rewind, as it were...

My kids and I decide to go to a library we have not yet been to. (Yes, we are library nerds!) Anyway....

The parking lot was full with cars driving around looking for a spot. One spot was open, it was the front row next to the building along the sidewalk. WE got LUCKY! It also provided some shade from the sun via the building's shadow. (It is HOT!)

    Anyhow...

The sidewalk was made through donations from people who had their names or anything they wanted inscribed on the in-liad large Squares. SOme had family names, others had phrases....

Guess what we on the square directly in front of MY car.....???

The ONLY one written in Russian.....

    proberbs 1:7
Начало мудрости--страх Господень; глупцы только презирают мудрость и наставление.

Translation: The Fear of God is the begining of wisdom'; only fools despise wisdom and knowledge.

Did I mention I had to sit down?

hmm the "tree of Knowledge" was actually "The tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil." God offered Them a choice to follow his commands or not. Without free will the value of Someone following you is not as potent. Would you rather your kids obey you because there is no other option or because they love you and prefer to obey than to disobey? It wasn't about having Knowledge so much as having a choice. Haivng Choices is good but that dosn't mean we will always choose correctly.I guess calling it the tree of the choice between good and evil would confuse just as many people.

I love how God sometimes shows us things in ways that feel so much like random coincedence. :)

Thanks Syele I was about to type the same thing!
the world has a way of messing with the truth and confusing people... hmm wonder where that comes from?

That is so cool! Jennifer only God could have sent that person there to have that scripture in Russian, just for you! I think He was letting you know He is really listening to you and wants you to know where to look for the Truth!
    Thanks for sharing!

I wanted to point out that in my experience as a professional non-practicig christian << Funny title, eh?, that me and the rest of the people I know, always called it the "Tree Of Knowledge."

I am NOT saying you guys are wrong, that would be stupid.
I am saying that in the non-practicing world (Yes, full of ignorance) we know it as the tree of knowledge.

More to the point, if you quizzed random people in public they would call it; "The tree of knowledge" ... and that is what we had in the backs of our heads, until we learned differently.

Even the bible stories book, I got from the library yesterday calls it the "Tree of Knowledge".

(by the way....How could I leave the library, after that happened, without a religious book??? hahaha!)

    So there!
    na-na-na-na-boo-boo!

So Jen, pretty much what I pmed you about the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil...is what Syele said but in a more consise way. I was a bit wordy. (I know, I know, that is just the way I am)

You are also right that most would say it is the Tree of Knowledge. That is why we have to check God's word before making assertations on scripture. I know I have worked on the knowledge of what I thought the scripture said and was wrong. So often people grow up hearing things and then accept them as truth without ever checking for ourselves. Here is a story I am going to shed to pieces for you but it illustrates a point:

Beth always cuts off the end of her roast before cooking. When her husband asked why, she responded, "my mother always did that so I always do that." So, one day Beth's husband asked his mil why she did it that way. She responded, "my mother always did it that way so that is how I do it." So, one day Beth's husband asked his wife's grandmother why she did it that way. She responded, "well, the pan I had was too short, so I had to do that to make it fit."

So, we do need to question some of our own beliefs and be ready to lay them to rest if the Bible does not support them. God wants us to seek Him. He wants us to be wise and not fools.

    I totally agree!
And I want to say that pulling up and parking in front of THAT one square was not the main point of my story. Kool, yes, but not the main point...

My main point was learning that knowledge is NOT a dirty word in religion, whereas in fact God's word says a fool hates knowledge. THAT was the main point of my awe.

I mean, this is like learning that 2+2 = 5.

Pulling into that particular parking spot was (in my opinion) so totally a God thing... WOW! What He does to get our attention.

We all can get hard headed at times, even the Israelites did! God once called them ( well at least once) a stiffnecked people! That was when He was not too pleased with them for being inconsiderate of all that He had just done... like right after they had walked through the water that He held back in order to free them from slavery?
You know the time when Moses was going with out food and water for 40 days in order to get the rules to live by ( we know them mostly as ten commandments but there were so many more!) and they were down there partying like the world and building false God images? Yikes! talk about hardheaded peoples! Lol!

But then thats another story isn't it?
Point being, we all need a Russian word in the sidewalk at times!
God will make a point of getting His point to us!
    He is cool like that!

Oh, I got your point. No, knowledge is not a dirty word. God calls us to discern good and evil, truth and lies. God was pleased when Solomon asked for wisdom over anything else he could have had. I can see why thinking knowledge was discouraged could turn you off. That would turn me off also.

Love your avatar! Your kids are adorable. I finally figured out how to use pics also. If you ladies check my profile there is even one of me now. Then you will see the red hair and know where my big mouth and attitude comes from. lol. Have mercy on me though, I have TWO redheaded daughters!
