Have you heard about the scandal?
http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/09/23/katy-perry-too-revealing-for-sesame-street/ (you might not want to click with young children around-the video is embedded in this article)

In case you don't know who Katy Perry is-I find it questionable that she is even on SS at all

Why is someone who sings songs like
"I kissed a girl" (and I liked it...it felt so wrong it felt so right...)
and "You're so gay" (I hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf
While jacking off listening to mozart You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys)

    On a show for preschoolers????

Um...wow. I'm glad we don't watch that show. Ever. I miss the old school version.

Very inappropriate choice of guest. I'm glad they pulled her part.

SS is such a progressive show anyways! The song she was singing was a little too much too, IMO. Her clothing alone is hideous. Her nibblies were about to fly out of her top! I know it's supposed to be covered with mesh fabric at the top, but goodness. I'm glad parents complained and got it removed. Poor Elmo.

"Nibblies "? cute, I've never heard that before! and yeah, poor Elmo. I am really very disappointed that SS would even consider her for a episode. Did they really think she was SS material? what would they base this on, her wholesome song lyrics? Unbelievable.

George Carlin was the narrator for Thomas the Tank Engine. And so was Ringo Starr. If we look carefully enough, we'll find a reason to write off everyone. If the lady was saying inappropriate things on SS, that's one thing; if she was a guest and was saying things appropriate for young children, that's another.

Ya know,I thought the same thing when I saw they had Kobe Bryant as a guest on Sesame Street. We don't watch the show on televison, but I have a couple of videos. Even if my kids did see that episode though, they would have had no idea who she was. Same goes for most of their guests for that matter,my kids have no idea who they are because I don't let them! The thing I am utterly SHOCKED about is that they allowed her to wear that dress! Seriously, that was just inappropriate.

After a few episodes, we no longer allow our kids to watch Sesame Street. IMO, it's not about learning age-appropriate concepts now; it's about programming kids into some one's (not my) social agenda.

We do let the kids watch the "vintage" episodes we have on DVD. I know, it's awful - they're singing Ladybug Picnic and learning to count and sort and categorize and <gasp> cooperate. And, despite seeing Monsterpiece Theatre, none of my boys has begun smoking a pipe. Besides, as much as they'd like to eat cookies non-stop, they think Cookie Monster is ridiculous (in an entertaining way).

Aw, Steve, I think the Episodes narrated by George Carlin were always the best! We have a ton of videos with him as the narrator. I guess the kids wouldn't (or shouldn't) know who Katy Perry is, but her outfit is a bit rediculous and over the top for a children's show.

Well, it seemed to me that Elmo felt very uncomfortaable around her, and (like a wise preschooler) was saying no and trying to get away. And SHE wouldn't take no for an answer, and kept after the poor little guy!!! LOL!

OK - I watched the video. It didn't seem so bad to me (except for her knobbly knees!). In fact, the lady's persona near the end reminded me of Pee Wee Herman. He's another one who's personal behavior was outrageous - but all my children loved the movie 'Pee Wee's Big Adventure'.

I'm with Steve on this one. Ok, the dress was just blech, but it was supposed to be a fairy costume (she said in the beginning she was there to play dress up, as Elmo had agreed to). But the rest was fine. I honestly don't understand what the uproar was.

Like Steve said, if what she did on the show was an issue, then pull it. Just because it's Katy Perry is not a reason to deem it inappropriate.

My boys don't know who Katy Perry is, I had never seen her either until I watched this a minute ago. Anyway, I don't want them to look at any female dressed like this, Katy Perry or not. And if my almost 5yo ds saw this, he would say, "Mommy, I shouldn't watch this," because of how she is dressed and I agree with Sonita one this one, " I find it questionable that she is even on SS at all

and "You're so gay" (I hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf

I agree with Steve and Amie.

Her dress didn't need to be so low cut because it is a preschooler show. Other than that I had no problem with it.

Why just because it is Katy Perry do people have a problem with it?

Living in my own little world, I have never heard of Katy Perry before. Watching the way she was dressed implied to me that she is not the kind of person I would want as a role model for young children.

Sesame Street needs to set some kind of standards. I doubt anyone will agree with those standards 100%. To some they will be too strict, to others too liberal. But obviously when a large number of people fuss, the standards are not in sync with the majority of the viewers (or at least with the viewers' parents!).
