I get it now. I also looked at my own weight loss and did some reading and realized I really didn't have a cause to say anything. I'm now down 12 pounds in a little over 3 weeks so I was sort of hypocritical.

I'm also in the same boat in terms of needing to lose a huge amount of weight and the reading I did suggested that those of us in that position tend to lose it much faster and your weightloss isn't unreasonable.

I'm on a budget of 2500 calories a day (for a one pound a week weight loss) but tend to average around 2000.

Anyhow, I apologize and I really want to say congratulations!

Well, I'm making myself eat breakfast. I never eat breakfast. In fact, I rarely eat much at all. That's part of my weight gain problem. I don't eat enough so my body goes into starvation mode and stores everything. That's why I never have energy.
I had planned to start walking today, but I sprained my ankle VERY badly on Saturday. "...Best laid plans of mice and men...," right?

Breakfast was a huge problem for me too! :) I never ate it, never had energy and then grabbed snacks for the rest of the day. I was also very snarky.

Ever since I started my fitness thingee breakfast has been non-negotiable.

Here's an article that helped me, How to Ruin Breakfast

I now make sure I at least have fiber (cereal or whole grain toast), protien (nuts, fish, chicken, eggs or cheese) and a serving of fruits or vegetables.

As an aside, I don't know if anyone else feels this way but I know I'm now buying special food just for me, bread, cereal, nuts, dried fruit and yogurt for example that will help me eat right and I think before I let guilt stop me from doing that. You know, I'm taking money out of the budget or getting treats that are meant JUST for me. Has anybody else had that? I think I'm over it now but I also think I let it stop me from eating well for a long time.

Not a problem Dawninns. See I was on a 2000-2500 calorie diet a day without even trying. I maintained. Nothing like maintaining when you're trying to lose LOL.

My friend sent me this book and it's working. First time something has worked.

Everybody is built differently and has different metabolisms. I'll never be able to go back to over 1550 calories because I'll probably gain everything back. I was maintaing my weight no matter how much I worked out.

I was never a breakfast eater either. But now I work out every morning and I eat a banana right after I workout, then have something like steel cut oats or unflavored whole grain cereal of some sort when dd gets up.

I'm not buying anything special just for me. Dh and I are doing this together and since we're not eating anything "special" there's no harm in dd eating what we eat. Granted she has sandwiches, or whole wheat mac and cheese and vegetarian corndogs, ect which we don't have. But breakfast and dinner she eats what we eat.

My dd loves the veg. corndogs! We're vegetarieans too. Well, we used to eat some meat when we went out, but I've never fixed it at home. Now all of us but our 13yo have decided to be vegetarians. I have been for most my life, just rarely ate meat. Now I don't eat it. Actually, dh has a fish sandwich once in a GREAT while when we're traveling and go to a fast food place. Many places have salad now, so I usually get that.

For the last two weeks I've walked a 2 1/4 mile loop, 6 out of 7 days. It feels so good! Now I get ansy if I don't get out and walk! It's raining today, so I may walk on my treadmill.

I am in, too! I need to lose a bunch. I am concerned because we have some friends who want to have another baby but are having problems because of her weight. I am not her size, but I don't want to even worry about it when we are able to have a second one! I am not really sure how much I weigh because our battery on our scale is out. Shucks! hahaha I was doing pretty well with our elliptcal, but it broke, so now I've got to come up with another plan until we either fix it or get a new one. I got a Walk Away the Pounds video I am going to start again and I am trying to do less during the week so that if we don't have to go anywhere we can get up, go for a few laps around the park and then ds can play. And I really need to cut out soda. I have stopped buying it for the house except for rarely, but I am bad about hitting the drive through. A little while back I came to the realization that I didn't want to be thin anymore, but I want to be fit. And I have so many cute clothes I could wear if I lost weight!

We had three feasts in a row this weekend, including our beloved older daughter and son-in-law who called us over for a grilled meal late yesterday afternoon. So I'm needing to give my system a rest and decided to "juice" for a day or two with my new (used) Champion juicer. I hope you won't think this is fanatical, but sometimes when I get to eating a lot for several days in a row, the best way to stop the upward spiral is to cut WAY back for a short time.

Sooner- my Ob/Gyn's nurse practitioner told me the reason I wasn't pregnant was because of my weight. I thought that was interesting since there were three women in the waiting room that day my size and larger who were pregnant- you could tell they were very heavy before they even got pregnant.
So we'll see what happens. Another couple months and we'll have been trying for 2 years. I figure by spring I'll have lost at least 40 pounds at the rate I'm going, even when the pounds do come off slower I should be down that much by then. If I'm still not pregnant we'll know it wasn't my weight- even though I'm pretty sure my weight isn't hindering me getting pregnant since everything checked out normal.

I think she has PCOS --I think that's what it's called. I have no clue whether or not we would have trouble since we haven't tried, but I don't want to have that to worry about. And I have some skirts I really want to wear, too! : )

Maybe some of us need to have a Breakfast Club! I'm another who tends to skip it, but I also will skip lunch about half of the time! And I know I SHOULD eat breakfast and make the kids eat it.....

That's me all the way. I rarely even eat dinner. I much throughout the day then eat a big pile of something right before bed. So healthy, I know  It doesn't matter what I eat, with these habits I'll be packing on pounds for sure.
I don't have tons of pounds to lose, but I do have to shed some inches. I've gained three pants sizes in a year and half. I'm not "fat" or even overweight, but I am not healthy.

A breakfast club for some...Great idea.

What about a check in day? Maybe each Friday we could check in with our out progress in our goals - weight lost, new fitness accomplishment, how many breakfasts we ate. :)

I can sorta relate to the fact that you are hesitant to buy food items specifically for you self. It also brings to mind a question.

Why are our kids not eating this same healthy stuff?? ;)

Something we are working on around here.

Since kids have been brought up, does anyone know of any good exercise videos for little kids? My son's favorite physical activity is running around in circles. Put him in the yard and watch him go! Me, not so much. So I was thinking that maybe we could get some kind of follow-along video for when it gets colder.

I got up earlier than I had been, and went walking for an hour. Actually for 30, ten minute break in a/c, and 30 minutes. I figure I will stop the break when the weather cools down. It was already in the mid 80's and rising when I started home today, and I am just not used to the heat anymore.

I went into a burger king and bought a breakfast sandwich that is on sale for a buck, and got a ice water to drink on the way back. The sandwich was gross. The ham was syrupy sweet. Way nasty to me. I don't eat sausage, so I wont be tempted to order there again. ( all the other cheap items had sausage)

I might hit them up for water everyday however, and make up for having worked there as a youngster. LOL

When I was on a type II diet, we considered a mcmuffin with the top off a proper breakfast from a fastfood place. McD is too far, oh well. So much for treating myself to FF breakfast while out for the walk.

I suppose I could brown bag, and stop at the park for a few minutes instead.

    D'oh! :)

That's a good point. Actually, since I've started eating better much less junk food has been coming into the house. I expect our family habits will begin changing (they already are) as mine do.

We've always eaten healthy, but portions were a problem. It's amazing though how many places you'll find sugar. Even whole wheat bread at the store that says all natural that you THINK is healthy has sugar listed as the 2nd or 3rd ingredient.

Exercise videos- we have one for dd by Denise Austin called "Fit Kids" . There are two programs on there and both are fun. Dd and I do them twice a week or more depending on whether we can get outside.

Yeast breads will always contain sugar. It's needed to activate the yeast.

However.... some sugar is NEEDED in your diet. If you think of burning fat, fat is the firewood. Sugar is the kindling. Without sugars in your body, you can't burn fat. Please don't take that to mean that you should eat tons of sugars. But some sugars are required for weightloss. These can be in fruits, some veggies, or even a small cupcake on occasion.

Oh we have fruit and fruit juice. But no white flour and no refined sugars or processed foods. We get our sugar from fruit, fruit juice and eat whole grains. But only so many servings of each a day.
