It's between 2.52 (locally owned) and 2.67 (chains) here. I buy the cheapest; although my dad is always fussing at me for it. It has changed as much as 10 cents in one day here. That was the day after Katrina. It regularly goes up 3 or 4 cents at a time though.

    It is 2.76, here.
It was 2.13 this time last month!!!!!

    This is why we moved!
My husband is right around the corner from his job. Instead of the 30 miles EACH way, he was driving before. Whew!

    Oh!
    And I wanted to mention...

When gas is rising, keep your tank full... keep it topped off.
When it is faling... wait as long as possible before putting gas in your tank and only a little at a time....

And when gas is on the rise.... rise early! ALWAYS buy your gas before 5AM!!! Between 5am - 6am is when Gas station managers change their prices for that day.. (Private owned may be EARLIER) When gas is on the rise...rise EARLY!!!

Strange rule of thumb my father in law told me. (He works in oil ....)

    In doing this....
I have not had to pay the 2.76, yet.... Will not nee to buy gas again for a while... could probably go two weeks....

When gas prices fall... I do wait to the last minute before getting any...

No, not between 5-6 here. My husband has to be at work at 7:30, and they rarely have it changed when he drives by after 7. He usually likes to allow extra time to get it. It's generally cheaper on that side of town for some reason. I'm still praying that, since he has to change schools, he'll get one on this side of town. There are two or three that could even allow us to use just one car!

Something needs to be done. It's terrible that, inspite of the hurricanes, etc. the oil companies made such incredible profits. I don't mind them making a profit, but they shouldn't be able to do it at our expense.

    Its $2.79 here.
We have now decided that we are only going to cut the grass every 10 days instead of every 5. We have 3 acres to cut. [IMG] It takes about 2 1/2 gallons each time. For a 5 gallon can it will cost me $13.95.
Thank goodness we have a small car and truck.
I honestly think its a way to pay for all the damage that the hurricanes have caused on the oil refineries. Our home wasn't even damaged and our insurance rate went up about $100 more a year, because we live in a hurricane pron area. The insurance companies are going broke paying out for the hurricanes. On top of all this we have the new season starting in less than 2 months. I can only imagine what the prices will be like if another one like Katerina hits the US. The Gov. told the people that live on the coast, that they have predicted a greater than 50% chance of another one like or even stronger than Katerina hitting the already battered coast, this upcoming season. I honestly hope they are wrong and none of the US will see any type of hurricane in the near future. The poor coast couldn't even take a tropical storm much less a hurricane. So many people are still living in tents or in FEMA travel trailers.

Hurricanes form when the ocean water is really warm. This was a REALLY warm winter in the Gulf, so we are absolutely going to have an active hurricane season. Here is a really neat site where you can learn more about hurricanes and weather in general. There is even a quiz at the end! :)

    Check this out...

Imagine the gas prices were exactly where they were a year ago...
Now add the usual expected rise in price for inflation over one year...
Now add the usual increase slapped on people for the Easter/Spring/Summer Jump in Demand....
Now remember that there are only "X" number of refineries....
Now, if all of those refineries combined represented ONE pipleline that the REFINED gas has to pass through, to get to the consumer (Think Assembly Line).....
Now remember that because of the NIMBY (Not In My BackYard) legislation of the last 30 years that there has been NO NEW REFNERIES built....
Then imagine that the demand for oil/gas has increased, not only due to increased cars, but also due to increased PLASTICS products....
Then... imagine that legislation for the ETHENOL ADDITIVES just passed Summer of 2005 by congress... And it cannot be transported over Existing pipleines and HAS to be TRUCKED over LAND.... (This is all true)... This adds to the cost.....
Then imagine... A war... Then imagine.....A Hurricane that takes out nearly Three states.... And so on....

Then imagine NONE of this happened and we are paying $6.00 a gallon.....
That is what they pay in England....

I think $3.00 is not too bad.
I was complaining a few days ago, but I have re-thought my mind...
I think we are doing ok, and prices go up...
But I think with all the stuff listed above.. the oil companies could very well come up with a good excuse to charge us $6.00 a gallon..
Yes, I am VERY thankfull that they do not choose to do so...

    Also, for a little perspective...
Those who remember the Gas Lines in 1979????
For todays Gas Prices to MATCH or surpass the Oil Embargo of the late '70's.. Gas would have to pass $3.34 a gallon, because of adjustment for inflation, before it can be considered as bad or worse than back then...

Not busting any "Let's kick the oil companies butts" (Mainly because I would join in!) But just wanted to share what I have learned from reading the newspaper and from local and national news reports, and some magazine articles...

    Happy Motoring!
    Jen

P.S. I nearly peed myself, today. TMI. I passed a gas station that had gas at $1.89!

Just before I hit the gas to race home to get my gas card (I had no money on me at the time), I saw the sign: "Store Closed - Moved to XYZ Street."

    DAYNG IT!
Oh well.... WOuld have made a great find!

Here is a good site for seeing historical prices in "Today's" Dollars.....
    http://bigpicture.typepad.com/comments/2005/04/gasoline_prices.html

Here is one source that shows the price of gas adjusted for inflation over a number of years.

Their numbers differ from where I got my numbers, but I think it is all relative....

Here is a chart for OIL prices.....

hey, if you go to this place you can check it out to find the cheapest gas in your area!
You just have to enter a local zip code.
My sister sent it to me from Wa State and I am in Ca, so I assume it is interstate as well.
Be blessed! Its pretty scarey looking at the prices though!

Jennifer, to me all that is irrelevent. The bottom line is that Exxon is making record-setting qurter profits...nearly $10 billion in the last quarter alone, according to an article I read just today. If the cut that just 25%, it would really help out those of us who have to go places, and I think they could still live with only $7.5 billion profit.

    You're right.
Right now, we are living on $75 a week in gorceires for a fam of five. SO I KNOW those turds could live on 7.5 billion.

Jen, you and I must use the same shopping system! I get $185 to last me two weeks, and usually I do very well with it! I also pay for all my groceries with cash; I honestly think that makes a big difference!

Ya know, I'd be willing to go to "only" 7.5 billion a year if it was my company! Course that'd mean I might not get my brand new 3 or 4 cars per year, and what would I do with only a couple mill. for me to live on per year?! Oh dear! It'd be a real sacrifice!

We try to keep our grocery bill for the 5 of us around the same level as Jen and Jackie. It can be done and helps a lot!
