Was it Alpha Omega? I don't remember! Either way, I don't care for boxed curriculum, and probably wouldn't use it if it were given to me. (And no, I didn't take the comment as being sarcastic, but as correcting my mistake.)

Ladies, maybe we all need to take a day to sit back and rethink things! Remember to be SLOW TO TAKE OFFENSE, and temper speach with love! Try not to let minor things divide us! My one friend always asks, "And what is the eternal significance of this?"

Im not mocking you at all, I was just asking you simple questions. Being responsible and being cautious are 2 totally different things..Im responsible becaue I work, pay the bills, and teach my dd, but Im cautious in those circumstances. Im cautious because something freaks me out not because I think the world is full of bad nasty people out to get me(not saying you think like this!). Im sure you do have fun in life, Im very cautious when it comes to my dd, we went canoeing last weekend, 1st time for either of us, I was more worried about her than I even thou the water was 2 feet deep. Im sorry if I offended you I was just making asking a question and stating how I felt.

    God Bless

    Melissa,
Your post wasn't mocking at all from what I could tell reading it. Sometimes no matter what we say some people will interpret it very negatively. Good grief, I said I thought the curriculum was not Abeka and was told I was being sarcastic. Now how much more negative can you get than that. Maybe I should never mention Abeka again for fear of being told I am sarcastic. Wow, it really goes to show you just can't be too careful with some people.

Yeh that is a tough one....

I would be careful what information I provide. If they agree to meet and drop it off at your husbands work...don't tell them he works there.

I'm always the cautious type and the craziness that goes on in this day and age...ugh!!!!

I also wonder why they picked that curriculum. Are they connected with it somehow? I mean they could have easily told the homeschool store that they would like to buy a gift cert for you and you could pick whatever you wanted.

I would be careful about them following you home though. Unfortunately...there are some sick people out there and fortunately there are some real nice people out there. We have a Smoothing the Way library here to help those out that don't have funds. All the materials are donated so...some are a gem and some are enough to get by. But...we have no strings attached and recently we have moved it into a store front so that people don't have to come over to our house and go through the boxes. It is so wonderful!!!!

Let us know what you do.

Wow, am I really perceived as being so sarcastic that asking if the curriculum was something other than Abeka is so poorly recevied ?

I really think it's time I take a break from here for awhile. I have been a little under the weather emotionally since finding out my halfbrother has stomach, liver, and lung cancer. Some of the responses on her are so emotionally draining I am going to just get busy at home more and stay off of here for awhile.

I will be back but sometimes a break can be a good thing.

I see it this way it is wonderful to be cautious. I didn't see anything whether or not you were going to accept the items. Personally, people (including christians) have a hard time accepting anything. The email that was sent to you sounded to me that God has lead them to bless you. Obviously you have blessed them in some way. Last time I checked that is called Blessing the Blessed. You never know not accepting the gift could result in them not receiving a blessing. And just maybe say if you are not planning on using it you run into a family that may need it which it turn you can pass it on the same way you received it. You never know what God has in store for those items. But for sake that there are people that are not thinking correctly I would have the exchange somewhere public.

Ok...I hate to jump in the middle of this but....I had to go back and read the whole thread to find out who was being ill willed to whom. Sorry gals....I must just be missing it.

I think sometimes when we get tired and drained....things are taken in a whole different light.

Take a deep breath and enjoy! We are all here to support not slam each other down into the ground.

    Hugs all around!!!!

(The curriculum offered is Alpha Omega.)
    But that doesn't realy matter.

I'm glad that you are even willing to consider the offer.
Please do not feel like you guys, have to give us something in return.
Remember we are only tools, serving a mighty God .
Just make sure that God gets the glory,it is him who is doing this .We are once again .instruments and when God tells us to do something ..we better do it...
That day the we met you we were so proud of you, your dedication to your children and teaching them, your positive attitude ,and how creative and resourceful you are.
That's enough of a blessing to us,we were blessed by the fact you are a proud home school mom..Keep up the good work, like only a Mom can do!!

God Bless and prosper and protect your family always.
    In Jesus name,Amen

My husband and I have talked on this and we agree that we should accept this offer, in a public place, of course. We agree to accept it based on receint events of the past. Which include, us returning to church, and the several "Slaps" on the face to continue to homeschool.

Everytime we feel like we are doing the wrong thing, (I almost enrolled them in public school on the DAY BEFORE I MET THIS MAN), everytime, God shines a Mega-Watt Spot-Light on why I should continue. It is as though God has to slap me in the face, over and over. Well, I am tired of not taking the hint. haha!

(Anyone remember me finding TWO identical NEW social studies textbooks WITH the Teacher Edition for less than a $1 total?) Aparently, I needed an even bigger slap across the face....

The day before I met this man and his wife, was the first day of school, in the district. We even showed the school to the twins, in case we decided to give up. I was sick over it. Finally that day came, and we figured it out, hat it was not us. It was not what we were supposed to do. Our children belonged at home. The next day, I met this man and his wife in the school supply store.

(Yes, I almost enrolled them, yes, I was in tears for a few days, yes I was not in the mood to speak of it, because I felt it was something that will probably happen every August. :p )

We will meet with them at a public place, tomorrow. Someone sent me a link to the Alpha Omega site. Aparently, this family is gifting me a $500 gift. "How great is our God, sing with me, How great is our God?"

    I was speachless.

I am baking something for them.
    It's what I do.
    Jen

P.S. I wanted to emphasize to those who were rightly concerned: I do not have a land-line phone. I have only a cell phone as my husband has it through his work. So there is no phone he could directly trace us with. (I know all things are possible, I am just saying that a cell number is different than a land line) Also, if he were smart enough to notice that I owned my own domain, when emailing me ((Many do not)) and if he were smart enough to look up the WHOIS for the domain, he would not get this address either.

Many things are possible, but no. I would not have given out a land-line number to a stranger.

And I was not "Creeped out" by this family honestly, until the e-mail. It was weird that she did not speak, much. But one of the things that were weird came together until that email. Does that make sense? It was only in retrospect.

I want to thank each of you for your awesome input! I will post here again, when we have met with them, supposed to be tomorrow evening.

Also, we did not have a curriculum. I have just been pulling things together from suggested topics to cover from the "What your first grader should know": book and things from the thrift stores and library. A boxed curriculum is what a first year mom would LOVE! If anythnig, just to show us how to pace our teachings...

    Thanks!

I wanted to add something strange...

The whole time I was in the store with them, I thought I was "Showing them the way". You know, giving them tips, reminding them that it is becoming more common, now, and that you can homeschool for nearly free, if you put your brain to it. I thought "I" was the one who was excited to see someone else being proud and excited..

Then he tells me that I was the one who impressed them.... How funny life is, eh?

Jen, isn't it neat when you see God doing something JUST FOR YOU? I've had it happen once or twice, and it totally blows you away! I mean, we all know God loves us, but He loves EVERYONE, and I'm really not that special.... And then He pulls something like this just to say, "HEY!!! YES you ARE special to Me!!!"

I just told Jack how much the curriculum is valued at and he immediately said, No! I'm not taking that! There is something this guy wants.

    Sigh.

But we talked some more about never getting a break, about knowing that compliments and gifts are harder to accept than insults and injuries. The bad stuff is just easier to believe, you know?

But I convinecd him that some people do have the means to make these offers and that it woul dbe no different that if he gifted a piano to a poor child, asking only that the child use it for music and not for scrap metal.

He understood and said that meeting this man and kicking the tires, so to speak, would be wise.

So, I think we are on for Tuesday. My DH has Tuesdays off.

Here is the letter, I wrote back to the man.....

The day before I met you, I was in tears. Fort bend schools started on the day before I met you. I was torn over what I was supposed to do. Then I remembered what my Pastor had said, just the day before...

Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your path."

I felt like I needed God to direct me. But I felt I was not getting a clear sign. I just felt it in my gut, you know?

I did not enroll them in pubic school. In fact we woke up that next day, knowing that we were doing what God wanted for our family. I do not know why, but I knew it was correct.

He let me feel free enough with myself to pack up the children and go to the teacher supply store for inspiration. We go mostly to get ideas, because I know that I can make most of that stuff for cheaper. (At least that's what I thought I was going for). Apparently God has better ideas. He wanted me to meet you and your wife.

We have managed to pull together what we have for a curriculum, through internet searches, thrift store buys and the library. I have looked at the boxed curriculum sets, at the store, but I just take notes off the side of the box, to get the outlines of what they teach. Then we take that info to the library and pull ideas together.

To have a God based full curriculum laid out for us, is truly a God send...... Thank you.

I have nothing to offer you in return except my humble thanks.

So, next update is on Tuesday, I suppose...
(I still have one foot behind me in a buffalo stance, incase this guy gets his freak on! -- Yes, former street kid in me, finds gifts and compliments hard to swallow, sorry.)

Well, congratulations, Jen! I really hope you enjoy your curriculum. This is an exciting time and I pray that whatever it is that God is wanting to be accomplished in this situation will be done. God is so good!

Yes... "How great is our God" (love that song, by the way:)). I was praying that you would find peace and be able to accept this gift. It just shows that God never fails to provide when we are following Him.

    Update: He wrote back.

We are glad and we feel that you are confirming that God has spoken to us and we don't want to be like Jonah.

We could make arrangements for you to pick these curriculum's from the home school store,if you have a car and don't mind driving to the bookstore ,they can be ready for you as early as tomorrow at noon. I not sure if Teacher Heaven has all of the curriculum's,but I will call tomorrow to verify.

The home school store phone number is 713-683-8894.
We can ask for them to call you if it is OK with you and your husband ,we can give them your name and number so when your order is ready ,you can just walk in and get the material.or If you prefer to wait ,will get them to you on Tuesday.

The required subjects are three ,but god wants you to have all five including bible teaching subject ,because God does not do things half way.

We served a first class, awesome God.

So, he never meant for us to meet, just wants us to walk into the store and pick up the order.
    Wow.

    I am still speachless.
